I finally was able to start building the dock - only to find out that the super glue I intended to use does not work with wood - although it is written on that package it does! So another run to our home improvement store to get my old fashioned wood glue, that´s not white glue...
I think I achieved quite a lot this afternoon - here are some pics:
Of course, the dock is far from being finished, there are tons of more parts to be added, then I will send the surface, clean the whole thing with my Dremel (substitute), weather the wood with my magic formula of 2 tablespoons of india ink to a pint of alcohol, paint it, add nut-and-bolt-and washer-detail, and, and, and...
Awwwh Gee Ulrich, you do a marvellous job of that rocky shore line but then you go hide it behind that great wooden monstrosity.
Pleased to see you've managed to delegate the electrical work.
Keep up the good work and Have Fun.
Cheers, the Bear.

Bear - don´t worry, there is still plenty of that rocky coast to be seen - just about 10 ft.
Here are a couple of quick shots from today´s work on the dock:
The dock is still a little wet - I hope it gets somewhat lighter once it has completely dried. If not, I´ll use powdered pigments to "lighten" it.
Just a quick update - I have been working on the second part of the dock (or is it jetty?):
This morning, it looked like this:
... and in the afternoon like this:
There are a few details still missing, but I am calling it a day for today!

The docks I am familiar with have the bents/poles under the deck treated from end to end. This makes them look very black right up to the deck. If you did this, the deck would look lighter than it is. I think the deck you have there looks like a deck in an industrial setting and is fine.

The dock is nearing completion, although it still has to get some more detail. The Keg Harbor R.R. & Nav.Co. also got a new loco.
Just a few quick shots I took this morning.
I definitively have to do something about this backdrop...
It´s past 5pm here, so I call it a day - I only w*rk 9 till 5 on my layout
Here is what happened in the past few days, aside from getting sticky fingers being covered with glue:
1. Finished the shoreline of the right part of the layout:
2. Started construction of Keg Harbor landing:
I am not yet happy with the weathering of the lumber - I think I´ll give it another wash...
I am off now - trying to get the glue from my fingers!
Sir Madog -- has there been any additional progress on this layout or have you abandoned it for other interests? It is the "right size" for my still to be built RR room in the garage.

Bill,
the layout died a sudden death! When I started work on the structures, I quickly found out that the amount of "real estate" I had planned for structures was by no means sufficient. On30 track is the same as HO track, but you do need four times as much space for structures compared to HO scale.
I tried to come up with something within the given space, but the layout would have ended up looking like a caricature. I was able to sell it to someone who extended it both in length and width - I could not have done that in our premises.
Here si the track plan for you:
