Semi retired.  Been railfan since Grandpa took me to the station to see a D&H Camelback on the point of the local freight coming through Cambridge, New York, more years in the past than I can remember. Worked for the D&H summer of 1956; went to Army Reserve summer camp with a railway operating battalion from New Haven, CT that same summer.

The unit was the 729th ROB, and was featured in the Army Historical Foundation's magazine On Point. I wrote a letter about that which was published.

Have ridden trains in Vietnam and India (including a few miles in the steam locomotive), as well as Panama, Nicaragua and all over Europe, except UK.  Paul Theroux is a literature hero for me.
