I always loved trains. Like many young boys, the visceral majesty of thousands of tons moving down a steel track held delight and interest. Unlike most though, I never grew out of it. Growing up along the Milwaukee Road's Chicago-St Paul main in Wisconsin provided a variety of railroading experiences to observe - both good and bad - and a lot to learn from.
Any deep and abiding passion can lead the curious sort to rather deep insights into human endeavors over a lifetime. Railroading's done that for me. So now I find myself interested in the logistics of rail freight shipment, the "what and why" associated with any given rail movement, what sustains it and why it changes. Still love the visceral majesty if big machines on the move though too.
