I've been working on trains since 1976 when I got an AHM Spirit of 76 trainset.  I had to take almost 20 years off due to my service in the Army.  When I finally established a work bench and unpacked all my stuff I was in for a shock.  There was no DCC when I packed everything up, which included over 100 locomotives and about 150 freight cars.  Almost everything I save was in poor condition and now I've been working diligently to restore everything.  Ive just started researching DCC.
