I model the Alaska Railroad in N scale. My "Garden Island" layout depicts the Fairbanks yard in the early '80s. At that time the Alaska Railroad had a wide variety of locomotives in active service, from aging Gp7s to Gp40s. The F7s were nearing the end of their long service on passenger trains at that time. The Railroad purchased experimental Gp49s which were supposed to replace the F7s in passenger service, but they didn't work out too well, so the F7s lived on.
My layout occupies a spare bedroom in our little San Francisco apartment. I'm very thankful that my beautiful partner, Rachel, has been supportive of my hobby and has tolerated my complete takeover of the spare bedroom.
