I worked for the Northern Pacific Railway between 1962 and 1966 to get through college. I was a telegrapher and worked mostly on the Idaho West Division. I am now retired from a 36 year career in the Forest Products Industry. Most of that time I was at the Boise Cascade Paper mill in St. Helens, Oregon. I am now retired and spend a few months each year as a volunteer in the Oregon State Parks.
I built a nice HO pike a long time ago. Now we live in a motor home and my railroading is done in the TS 20xx simulation game. I have a route that includes the United Railways branch of the SP&S Railway. Total trackage is about 60 miles. Ruling grade is 2.3% and my timeline is the 1940s. I have discovered that getting these steamers up a long steep grade is a real challenge.
I am also an occasional contributor to Classic Trains Magazine - the paper version.
