I started in HO modeling as a teenager in the 1950's, then with a young family the hobby went on a back burner until the mid 1970's when I became associated with the Pacific Southern Railway, a very active club in Rocky Hill, NJ.
Life interfered again in the 1980's with a job (actually career) change and a move to Florida. Lacking room, I started on a small N gauge layout, but again family obligations interfered - this time with aging parents.
This winter my youngest son came to visit and brought with him a couple of boxes of HO equipment I had left behind 25 years ago. Space considerations being what they are, I have instead opted to go with N, and will start work on a bookshelf-type switching layout.
So much has changed in 25 years! Fortunately, my profession was as a computer manager, so I have a bit of a head start on some of the electronics advances, but I'll still be relying on the forum and magazine for help and advice. I'm looking at using an Arduino for some control and signaling functions.
I just got done going through about 5 years of Model Railroader, from the '70's and early '80's - there is still a lot to be gained from those old magazines!
Glad to be back!
