I really got interested in model railroads when I visited a large HO layout being run by several operators. Once I joined we never seemed to run trains but my father bought me a used HO layout. This was 1956 or so and I was 15. I really liked to build kits of cars and engines. After college and started building a couple of layouts including an N gage with Rapido European prototypes. All these years I've kept my HO and N and acquired some Z gage in Germany. Ive started N gage layouts and built a small Z gage
I have several interests but I keep coming back to model railroading. I've been retired 14 years and although I take oil painting courses, I like 3D and enjoy creating things with my hands. Still have some old Alexander and other kits I've never built but plan to.
I started an N gage railroad last year but after winter, lost interest. Thought maybe model RR was out of my system. However after Christmas this year I decided I really wanted to do HO and have started a 4 x 6 layout. I want it to be semi portable. I'm determined to keep going this time and just bought an NCE power cab and Digitrax sound/motion decoder as I'm really looking forward to sound. In spite of my experience with computers, it looks like its going to require some time figuring out all the things DCC can do and how to do them
Its a shame that Bowser and others no longer have locomotive kits, So I'll have to confine myself to structures and maybe some car kits but the wood ones I built in the past seem to have gone as well.
I've found the videos and internet have been able to provide me with a lot of the latest ways to build a layout. But I still have questions and plan to post these in the future.
