I am currently building an N scale model railroad representing the Pennsylvania towns of Johnsonburg, Mt Jewett and Bradford, with a friend Pete, during the transition era.
While Pete models the PRR; I model the B&O.
The model railroad fits in a space measuring 6.5 metres (21.3 ft) by 3.2 metres (10.5 ft) in the shape of a distorted "U". When planning this, the overriding concern was to maintain an integrity between the railroads of those towns and the plan. Therefore, the B&O, PRR and Erie are all faithfully represented.
It's a two deck layout with the lower deck being used as staging yards. Presently, we've constructed one staging yard and associated helix and we're in the process of constructing the second helix and staging yard. Not wishing to waste plywood, the helixes were constructed in the shape of a decagon and this has worked brilliantly.
The upper deck will feature the towns, railroads and industries of these Pennsylvania localities.
The layout will be powered by Digitrax DCC and, hopefully, there'll be room and work for up to eight operators.
Furthermore, as we're building this I've decided to keep a photographic journal of events.
In time, I will add to this.
