Lifelong rail enthusiast (but not a 'statistic-wonk') - Grew up in Bergen County NJ near the Susquehanna (steam and Alco RS's) - raised in nearby Essex County and walked to school on the Erie ROW through Bloomfield NJ (4-4-0's, Alco RS's, and GP-7's) - owned a home in Northern VA suburbs where the Washington & Old Dominion ROW (now a rail trail) abutted our backyard (biked it end to end - Potomac Yard to Purcellville VA). Have always loved and been interested in RR's, and regret this nation turned its back on this efficient mode of moving people and commerce. More's the pity! Retired to WA state where I participate in the ALL-VOLUNTEER staff staffing the OLW AMTRAK Station (Olympia-Lacey Washington / aka: "Centennial Station") located on BNSF ROW, and where AMTRAK's Cascades service and the Coast Starlights make multiple timetable stops daily. FINALLY got a chance to actually put into use (even if partially) a lifelong interest. :-)
