Arthur J. "Art" Miller, Jr. is a veteran railroad safety and operations manager who specializes in developing training and regulatory compliance programs for start-up and expanding small railroads. He is a certified Engineer and Conductor, and has held numerous DSLE and other operations safety positions.

Miller began his railroad career in June 1967 as a Brakeman on the Tennessee Central Railway. When the TC experience ended a year later, Art went into TV news reporting and law enforcement.  

In the 1980s, Miller handled transportation legislation and regulations while on a Washington Congressional staff and then went to U.S. Railway Association in the Carrier Performance Evaluation Division.

After graduate school, Miller began working at start-up regional railroads including the Gulf & Mississippi and Wheeling & Lake Erie.  While at the W&LE, Warner Bros. came calling, starting a 25-year career as a Hollywood Railroad Coordinator. He has more than 80 feature film, TV movie, series, and commercial project credits. All of his film projects -- including Fair Game, The Fugitive, Schlinder's List, Unstoppable, and Under Siege II - In Dark Territory -- have been completed without injury, accident or other incident.

With both film production and railroad skills, Miller was a key media resource following the Sarah Jones/Midnight Rider tragedy in 2014. After Midnight Rider, Miller was called upon to develop and deliver rail safety training programs for the International Alliance of Theatrical & Stage Employees; Camera Guild of America; and the Association of Film Commissioners International. 

Miller has received two Safety Leadership - Lighting the Way to Safety from the Association of American Railroads. Heading towards semi-retirement, Art often travels throughout North America serving as an expert witness in cases involving rail operations safety, human performance, and training.
