THANKS GRW - I won!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 6:25 PM
I am new to "G" railroading. I bought a LGB starter set and an old LGB engine that had been dropped. I have been lurking, dreaming... make that planning, but so far only a test track has been built.

SOOOO today I get two large boxes from UPS that have 3 G scale bird houses and a light house! I won the GRW 04/06 give away!! The winery, drug store and diner are not "100% scale" but they sure are cute, the right size and 100% more than I had before! The grandsons will be tickled and I will not worry about their curiosity - these are not delicate models. Thanks GRW, these buildings are the push I needed.

Bob,
I assume that the drugstore you sre talking about is the one pictured below.

I have had this one outdoors, year round, for three years. The "General Store" & gas station is also a bird feeder from Cracker Barrel Resturant. As you say, it's not to scale, but it is close enough. The figures shown are approximately 1/32 scale.
I especially like this "Drugstore" because it reminds me of the architecture of "Huskins" corner drug store that I frequented as a youth.

Congratulations on your win.

Congradulations!

I wone a Heartland Army set a year or so ago. Used it to entertain kids in the shop. Just gave it to an 8-year-old who loves trains. He mom says he runs it all the time. "Don't worry, it's built for that," I told her.

My younger son, Ethan, in my shop last summer.

Congrats, Bob!

I wonder who won the full-size signal prize. I saw it was packaged up and ready to ship yesterday. Someone will be getting a HUGE package soon. . .

Bob congrats

Ya might consider protecting your prizes by giving them a coating of clear sealer, I got the drugstore version, and after 1 unprotected L.A. summer and winter I'm already looking to repaint and repair it (and several other different birdhouses that have begun to fall apart) The SoCal climate here is not kind to them.

PS I suggest blocking the bird hole, mine has become a wasp nest!!!!!!!!!!!!![:0]

   Have fun with your trains

Found GRWs advertiser that sells these “bird houses”. Good selection, reasonable prices (shipping is a flat $7.50), think I’ll order a house or two and have a rustic village for my RR to service. Now that I look at it, these colorful buildings match the bright LGB’s Stainz loco I am rebuilding.

I have a redwood fence I spray yearly with Thompson’s Water Seal. Maybe that stuff will help preserve my village.

Its good to have the winners share it on the forums.

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

Long live Outdoor Model Railroading.
