where to look to install batt power into diesels, various system ranges

Hello I'm a newbie, and read this intire strand, and working my way thru the others, but I was curious to see if there is an example of how to wire up a batt powered diesel on the web somewhere. my exact one I'd like is for a USA G-7, but any large diesel would work. Also how long does batt power last in these larger diesel loco's. Also anyone know (or where to look for) the ranges on the different wireless systems -I plan to go around my enitre back yard (eventually) which is 70'x60' and would like complete control from anywhere.
