The forum Whimsey build off
Posted by Rastun on Sunday, October 16, 2005 9:47 PM
Ok guys I'll step up and be the adult for a couple seconds here.

The Idea is:

Build a whimsical / fantasy or just plain strange piece of equipment.

The rules:

1.) What ever size you want.

2.) You have to be able to justify that it has a use on your railroad.

3.) The contraption should be able to make it around your layout.

4.) It needs to be powered, you decide how, as long as it isn't gravity.

5.) Keep the cost below what you would spend on a nice dinner for two.

6.) Pictures of the completed project posted here by midnight forum time Nov. 12, 2005

7.) The most important rule!!! Have a good time and remember this is all for fun!

Hi all I am out[:(]
Mine will break rules 3&4 and doesn't have enough
room to make it obey the rules.
Mr Ratsun sir have that disqualified stamp ready as if the drawing arrives in time I am going to make it anyway[:D]
I can gaurntee some one will not believe there is a prototype for it[:-,]
TJ would probably make it larger
Mount Canons and find a way of adding rail guns and a parrot to it as well.[swg]

Does the rule "it must be in one piece after running" need to be added?

Bottle Rockets would likely solve vic's problem. (-: lol

Puckdropper,
the rules say "It needs to be powered, you decide how". Pretty clear to me.[swg] Rules also make no reference to survivability after one lap around.[:-,] I have plans, oh yes, I have plans....................[X-)]

John
I bend bass wood and ply wood with a mixture of ammonia and water. You will need some sort of former to bend the wood around. With any luck you will have a pipe or can around the house that is the right size. I bent a piece of 1/16 inch ply around a radiator pipe to make the roof for the freight motor that I am working on now. Please do not mix ammonia with any chlorine product or you will get MUSTARD GAS, which killed thousands in the First World War!

John,
Pay no attention to Bob, mix all the chemicals you want, it's all OK and perfectly safe[}:)], Union Carbide does this all the time with no ill effects, well, um, there was that one little problem in India........

Yes, bleach will do a nice job of softening balsa to make it easy to bend. I do this all the time on my RC planes. A mix of about 15 ml of bleach to ½ pint water (5 ½ jiggers)
ought to do the trick.

Motive power, hmmmmmm, got me an idea..................Oi![:-^]

My money's on TJ!

Gauarranteeeed he'll get those army cooks to feed him something that would make enough gas to power the QE2 around the world, let alone a little model around a layout!
Just hope he warns Michelle before he comes home that night!

I just figured out TJ's method of propulsion! He's mounted a couple of howitzers on it and using the recoil to push his vehicle along the tracks! He's gonna win cause those howitzers are destroying the tracks behind him and you guys won't be able to make it around the layout!
