Best hobby Shops in Santa Fe
Posted by Moonglow on Monday, August 22, 2011 7:22 PM

Hi All,

I'm a new resident to northern New mexico.  I had a nice garden railway (track powered) back in Knoxville, TN several years ago.  Can anyone recomend a good hobby shop in Santa Fe NM?  I live in Taos, NM.

Thanks.....

I was out of Garden Railroading for about 5 years, but have recently jumped back in.  My Avatar will show progress on scratch built my 1/12 scale diesel engine.  For starters I'm using an Aristocraft motor and drive / pickup wheel set.  Stay tuned!

A Google search shows only two shops in SF, a Hobby Lobby which are usually pretty poor train wise in any scale, and a Northeast Train &Model which my be a better place to start. Small cities ate often pretty thin on hobby shops. Good luck, maybe Alberqercy might have more options.

   Have fun with your trains

Thanks vsmith.

I'll be down in Santa Fe next week, so I'll check out Northest Train and Model, and let you know what I find.  I found that Hobby Lobby, is pretty much a zero for "G" gauge stuff, but I'll check it out anyway.

Have a great weekend.

I am in the Albuquerque area and know of no G scale shops in Santa Fe, but Trains West on Candalaria in Albuquerque would be hard to beat anyway.

Thanks for the tip Jim.

While in Santa Fe last week, I visited Bob at Nothest Train and Model.  Real nice guy, but his forte is HO scale.  He has a nice little shop, but does most of his business at Train Shows.

I'll chack out Trains West next time I'm down in Albuquerque.
