I didn't make yesterdays date Too worn out from hauling 3000 lb's of rock and dirt to finnish town and Track…Dave

Let’s see now, three thousand pounds at 1:24 scale (rough estimate) works out to thirty-six tons! No wonder you claim to be tired! Looking good my friend. All right, you’ve had your fifteen minute break for the day, now get back to work.Laugh

Yikes

dwbeckett
3000 lb's of rock and dirt
, I remeber when I hauled 5 or 6 loads of rock on my wagon, each about 500 lbs, also non train related., over uneven ground and two hills. Then I hauled maybe 15 other loads of of about 50-200lbs. I was tired that month, but it helped get stronger for discusBig Smile! Shame now that I can't get those rocks back. I also bent the axle on my wagon. What are you kind of ballast are you using and what method are you using? - Peter

I will post a completed Town and TouristTrain on 8/9/10.( My Goal )

I didn't make yesterdays date Too worn out from hauling 3000 lb's of rock and dirt to finnish town and Track. The ballisting is comming along grate.I ran a two car brick train pushing them over the completed areas and then Pulling the two unloaded flat cars for about 2hr's without incident. So that means the Main line has reopened

All project's requiring painting are on HOLD till I buy a suitable mask, since I just spent 3 days in the hospitial due too much paint dust, blowing sand, grass mowing and other air polutents for the past two week's.

You can usually find them online for $34-35 each ($42 for the station) plus shipping... I saw that Ridge Road, and Wholesale have them listed for that... I need to get about 3 more eventually

BTW Peter, I purchased the four buildings for $19.95 each back in 97 ( I think ) now they are going for $59.95Each.

They look familiar, and that's what the first batch of mine cost.... They also make nice 'company houses' if you gable the false front.

If you watch, you can sometimes get the stores and school/church off feebay fairly reasonably... the others (house, train station, fire station, water tank), ouch!

Also watch for Train Shows. At this years BTS in Ontario, I think it was "Ridge Road Station" had them "Set of 4 for $100." Makes them a whole lot more affordable. I picked up a set myself.

I am planning my railroad in stages with the 1st to be small, about the same size as yours Vic, to make it easier on me, but the economy is not helping and trying out for my school's golf team isn't either, but each week I'm getting closer and I think I'll be able to finish the 1st stage by the deadline for the small railroad contest. Dave, did you use the glue you shared with us earlier to assemble those bashes? - Peter

.... I wish I had the time/money to start my garden railway...- Peter

Start small. Even a temporary loop on the grass is better than no layout. After my big D I had my 'garden railway' on an old diningroom table in a 2nd floor apartment.

The AV story

I agree, all you need is a small patch of ground to start, this is only 5' x 9'.
