Window Blinds for Passenger Cars
Posted by MRH044 on Sunday, September 28, 2008 7:18 PM

I have a quick question for you scratchbuilders. Has anyone ever made blinds for their passenger cars? I am working on building the Super Chief. I am painting and detailing the interiors and I would like to model the blinds. I have seen it done in HO but never in G. Any ideas?  Thanks,   Michael

Here is the first example I could find online.

Usually, you would find this type of thing used on dollhouses (most are 1:12 but some are 1:24, "half scale"). A quick search yielded nothing even in 1:12. This is going to be a DIY project. You could try putting a couple of index cards through a paper shredder and stringing your own.

I did find some nice 1:24 tiffany lamps and such - http://store.dollhousecollectables.com/lighting1.html

It is similar to many sleeper/observations with boat-shaped ends built by Pullman Standard during the 40’s for many railroads, such as MKT, Frisco, Santa Fe, NYC and RI. Detailed window arrangements vary. It is similar but not an exact match to the Santa Fe “Vista” series of observation sleepers from Pullman in 1948.
