I bought a Lionel Hogwarts G scale on the auction site with the understanding that it would be shipped in May.  I am thinking the shipments are delayed; any info.?  Thanks, Barry

Guys, I was given the info. for Lionel  http://www.lionel.com/Products/ShippingSchedule/index.cfm

and for MTH  http://mth-railking.com/shipping.asp

Hopefully these are ok to put on here and hopefully they help.

To answer my own question, yes the date was moved to June 08.  Barry

Probably right there!  Hopefully the bell and whistle sounds better than the P.E. model.  Barry

My daughter is too young for Harry Potter at the moment but she will probably be interested just as my son and all his friends were. So there might be one in my future.

But I'm a little confused--will the LIonel G scale Hogwarts train run on 45 mm track? I've read some postings that say it won't , that it will only work on the plastic track lionel supplies

Skeptical but resigned

There was a report that the Polar Express while claimed to be 45mm gauge, would run OK on brass straights but would derail on any brass curve track, wouldnt that take the cake, build something, call it G, but find it only works on their track, if thats the case, someone in Product Development at Lionel needs to hit and hit hard with a large stick...

...because that would be incredibly stupid on their part Dunce [D)]

Anyone here confirm or deny that report?

I did run my P.E. on Bachmann steel track with NO problems at all.  I will have to take the time and set it up on the new outside layout and see.  Barry

P.S.  The website now says August for the shipment of Hogwarts.

Howdy,

I received the PE Monday, but I couldn't run it until late Mon nite. It was pretty dark outside and I had several de-rails. My wife watered early in the day so there may have been some sand or dirt particles on the rails.

The Polar Express is definitely a toy train though. All plastic.  The pilot wheels did pull off the rails in the curves. It pulled the 2 cars ok up the 3-4 percent grades on the layout. The couplers are crap. The wireless would only work within about 10 feet of the unit. When I got out of range the engine would just slow to a stop.  I liked the varible speed control. The engine slows to a stop when you change directions. This will keep the grandkids from striping the gears slammiing it into reverse. I didn't expect that. The sound is kinda cutesy and could be louder.

I am going to add some weight to the engine and see if I can get the pilot wheels to track better in the curves. I was disapointed in the quality of the set. I expected something a bit more substancial from Lionel.

I bought Hogwarts off of Evil-Bay last week. So I assume they are in the pipeline. I will let you guys know how it compares to Polar Express when it arrives.

                                                     Regards,

Hello Folks,

I finally got Lionel's Polar Express to track ok on my outside raildroad. I took off  the panel on the underside of the pilot truck and filled it with lead shot. I also put a couple of thin washers between the pilot truck and engine body where the pivot screw goes in. Then I added one baggy rolled to about 3/4 inch in diameter full of lead shot to the engine body. It still had trouble tracking so I took off the traction tires on the lead wheels just behind the pilot. Whew!. Now it tracks ok around curves and ok slowly through switches. I am sure my roadbed is probably not as finely tuned as most of yu guys out there, so you may not have to do as much moding to get the same result.

                                                Regards,

Ok, I checked the lionel website and see that it is now delayed AGAIN til Sept.  Boy do I ever feel like I am getting ripped off since I paid for this item in APR.

On another note went on vacation to Michigan for a week.  I thought it would be great to go see the Lionel place and take a tour of the facility and shop in the gift shop.  NOPE, not happenin as it closed for tours in late June and the display tracks are even tore down.  The gift shop is closed as well. mad mad mad mad mad

2 reasons

British Profile

Large Scale

the two terms are mutaully exclusive, I would love to get my hands on some classic british profile trains from the Victorian and Edwardian era's, but the darn Brits are too in love with their OO and O gauge to be bothered to make anything like this in G other than a few uber $$ Roundhouse live steamers.

So we get a little interested when someone says they are going to offer something, in G that is in this vein, I am going to hold enthusiasm till I get a close look at one.

'fraid not Toad, I can't find the right wheels for them great big drivers. Huge PITA to make your own without a CNC milling machine, even a small PITA with the milling machine.

If I had the right wheels this would have been done aloooooong time ago.Wink [;)]

I am 70 years old I am not too old for the great garden railroading business, no one is too young either. Although I would like Harry's wand to do some reballasting, and weed removal. It's just possible that prof. Snape has a potion....
