Hi Empire,
I just sent you an email. Let me know when you will be in my area. Drop by and we can have a couple of brews and shoot the bull.
Phase I of my layout is almost complete...I can run LGB on R1 curves. The R3 has a way to go.
Regards,
Chuck
Heavy?? The MTH cars have Stainless Steel Wheels, USA Solid Brass, put your car on a track and tip up the track, boy do they roll. As long as you have enough traction to get moving it should be no problem, after all this is a Model Railroad, we don't need 100 car trains.
I tend to run 10 to 20 car trains, two Diesels or one Steam. MTH uses rubber Traction Tires, Aristo-Craft just adds weight. Both brands pull like mad. Aristo's large Diesels use 4 motors with nylon worm and gears, MTH use 2 motors with metal worm and gear.

[ user="Coogler Rail Line"]Those CAT tank cars look sweet! I love that bridge! How long did it take you to build it?
It took me about a year to come up with those ten black CAT tankers, the 06 ones are predominantly yellow, I like the black ones best.
Say do you have anything built yet ?? I'm heading up to Greenville, SC next week, an if you have a line built and are in the vicinity of where I might be passing thru, I'd stop by to see your line. if you'd want me too..... Let me know....Byron
Here's how it looks now....
HEy DMUinCT,
Do you have any issues pulling heavy cars like the CAT gen car?

By the way, MTH put out a dealer only set of CAT tank cars in 03 and 06, I've managed to collect 10 of the 03's and 3 of the 06's, here's a couple'a shots of some of'em behind the 2042 Mallet... in the early stages of my layout.....
MTH ships "Loop Couplers" in the box. MTH "Knuckle Couplers" mate with LGB Knuckles, Kadee, and Aristos (if you file back the square tab under the knuckle).
If your into collecting special cars, be on the lookout for the same CAT diesel on a Caterpillar black flat car, Un-cataloged.
I got my first MTH car today. It is the Railking CSX flatcar with CAT generator. I bought this because I could not find the LGB version and I work for Caterpillar in the generator business. Logical right? Dispite the great packaging from wholesale trains, the mount on the flat car came un-glued and one of the generator radiator lines broke loose. Nothing major...I can tack that together. This car is heavy. The generator model is cast metal...appears to be one that CAT sells. The car itself is heavy....it looks very detailed with metal wheels and some sort of suspension. I will have to add the LGB couplers that were included so I can haul it since I only have lgb locos for the time being( Everything that I have up to this point is LGB). Excuse to buy a new non LGB loco? My R3 line is not completed and I imagine that this will require that as well.
You guys are a bad influence!
i had this delivered to work and I showed it off. There was a lot of ooohs and ahhhs. I have several co-workers now thinking about getting into the hobby!
It is too bad that you guys live so far away from me. We could have a blast boozing it up and running some trains!
I am still eye balling that Challenger!

user="BudSteinhoff"] I use DC track power for all my trains including TIU for the MTH trains and Aristo on-board for others.I don.t understand using AC because DC provides all the functions of DCS.I have modified the switches to keep the sliders from shorting out but have finally removed all the sliders from the MTH locos and added wheel pickups to the tenders to make up electrical pickup. Works great without the sliders.Bud

Local "G" scalers supposed to have a swap-meet here in Kissimmee, this Saturday, in the Cattlemans Association Building, I plan to be there, just thought I'd mention that to ya.
Just to add:
I had a switch problem with the USA switches. The points are hot with the opposite polarity. The rail to points can be bridges by the slider or large drivers. I rewired the switch points so only the Frog switches polarity when operated.
I run DC with an Aristo "Elite" power supply feeding the TIU "Fixed Voltage IN1" ("Fixed DCS Out 1" to track). ALL DCS features ARE available.
MTH does not list the new drawbar for the "G" products. Yes, the drawbars are "toy train" too long. I find a Lionel siderod makes a good short drawbar. I then add 1"" of 1x1 inch self stick foam (window insulation) on the front of the Tender to further close the gap.

Get me alone side a set of rails and the party begins. Double track it and I start to swing. A cross over and I get out of hand.
Place a steam engine on one and I am totally out of control.

Grab a beer and join the party!
Thanks for the feedback Spike! I would have hated to fry one of my LGB's while running a MTH.
I have 4 of MTH's "G" steam engines.
I did have initial problems with 2 of them. MTH's warrenty service is excellent.
I run mine with MTH's TIU using A.C..
The only major problem is their rail wiper. It shorts out at turnout (Aristo Craft) frogs. You need to isulate another 1/4 to 1/2 inch more of the rail. I placed blue painters tape.
I had the same problem with Aristo Crafts engines also.
MTH's engine are a form of plastic but DO NOT look or feel plastic.
I do not know about their new draw bar with all the electrical interconnection. Reason, I cut my draw bars and shorten them. They looks a lot better with the tender closer.
Using A.C. power, You have to be careful not to place a non MTH engine on the track.
MTH's engines will also run on D.C. through the TIU. But with only basic control.
I am now waiting for MTH to get there GG-1 and PA & PB -1 into the market.
MTH's website and news letter is 99% "O" with very little discription clearification.
All of MTH's "G" equiptment start with "70" and "O" is "30"
