Century Club 2332 GG1

What's considered a good price for a Century Club 2332 GG1 with boxes, display, etc?

Is it a Lionel from a few years ago or is it another brand?

I didn't find it in the Greenberg's pocket price guide for Lionel trains 2006 copy.

It's a Lionel Century Club 2332, complete with everything it came with. I have a bead on one for $590, but he is willing to come down a bit. Just wondering if that's a good price.

The same guy is offering me a Lionel 226 AB set with a 217 B unit for $350. It's a Boston and Maine Alco uncataloged set from the post war. 1960 I believe.

On the 226 AB set with a 217 B unit combined price of $300.00 MAX!!!  Book lists 226 for about $160.00 in excellant condition, the 227 A unit for $155.00 in excellant condition which means NO scratches or wear marks or faiding of paint on the paint job.

Need more info on the stock number of the GG1, like a Lionel five or six digit current production number from the box, ex.  6-18828(not a real number).

The 2332 with the number you give is listed at $550.00 excellant and $650.00 like new, for like new it must look extremely nice and show NO signs of wear!  I am assuming that it means with box for that price.

Thanks Jim, I am just a penny pincher that's all!  Basically I like a good deal and to have customer service support should I ever need it.

Remember these are 2006 prices from Greenberg's, so the price could go up or down in 2007 or 2008.  There is a posting about the Lionel Century Club products and I think guys were complaining about the value going down on their Century Club trains, not 100% positive on the values.

Those trains were ridiculously priced to begin with. You could buy mint in box post war originals for the same price or less! I've been known to pinch a nickle until Jefferson screams, myself. I throw dimes around like they are manhole covers. Why I'm so cheap ...

An additional concern for the CC GG-1  is that it has the dubious distinction of being the only Century Club engine (if not _any_ Lionel engine) that had an alkaline 9V battery installed at the factory.  

 True, "newer" alkaline batteries do not leak as badly as ones form 20-30-etc years ago, but it is something to be aware of.  That battery has been in there for almost 9 years or so now, if the engine is still sealed, or "MIB".

 I suspect Lionel did this because it is somewhat of a chore to remove the shell.   Unfortunately they didn't consider the other side of the coin for people that might never remove the battery.
