Daan, you might know grits as polenta.  It is actually a porridge made from the grain.  In the US, it may be made from hominy, corn soaked in lye to remove the hulls.  We use the word "corn" exclusively for the kind of grain that the British call maize.  For them, corn can be any kind of grain.  However, around here (close to Mexico), we are very familiar with the Spanish name mais and with elote, roasted corn on the cob.

Hi Chief, regarding the latest alarm in England it doesn't seem a good idea to ship a bag of funny yellow stuff down to europe..Big Smile [:D] But polenta is very familiar to me, with cheese, unions and tomatoes out of the oven.Dinner [dinner]
