I am using bamboo shoots, blue HVAC filters, green spray paint, hair spray, and ground foam. I was following the procedure I found somewhere on the forums for trees from the Northwest. Since I live in New England, I'm only guessing, but they look better than I thought I could ever make! (and they are cheep, too!)

Great stuff guys, love the square Laz - that emery paper (?) really looks pretty good!  Great benchwork!  Love that wall railroad!  Nice trees, what's the material you are using, other than the dowels and ground foam?

It's been a long time since I posted any pictures about the progress on my small layout. Lately, i've been rebuilding my new (old) 364 lumber loader and wiring up some of my lighted accessories. In the meantime, I've been making trees. Oh yeah, and I've been making trees. And also making some trees. (I figure I few hundred will do my logging layout good. This is what I was doing this afternoon:

These are the small ones 3-6 inches:

 

 

Here is a batch of 10-12 inchers awaiting some ground foam:

As you can see in the second to last pic, things are a little sparse, that's why I'm building the little ones...also some bigger ones to fill in the back of the forest. That's 18 or so trees already up and it seems like the most pathetic little forest...

Yes, I agree & the guy used to take it to train shows & it always got all the attention !! It was actually called a diorama back then . If you get up to the Cleveland area be sure to visit the museum in Mentor !!

Teriffic pictures again this week !! Love the L-girder benchwork too !!

I used to visit the hobby shop that had the Switchback layout Tom is showing, & back then the elderly fellow had that running with a Shay or Climax loco pulling about 3 log cars, as that's about how many would fit in the switchbacks. It would work its way up & then back down & all the switches would throw automaticly as it went. Really a work of art I always thought !!

Frank, you are increadible with your work.  You really make the most out of a little real estate.  I will try to use some of your ideas on my own pike.

Laz, great town square.  I did not leave enough free space to do anything like that, but perhaps on the expansion.

Finally finished this up. Still have to put the sign on it and add a piece of trim, but for the most part this baby is done.

A buddy gave me this great suggestion for covering up that nasty electrical conduit:

With this complete, I am finished with structures for the next few months. Every structure on the top level is finally complete. I now have to work on ground covers and other scenery, wiring and final details.

This week we want to share with you a donation that was made to our musuem. It is an On3 (36") switch back layout made over 30 years ago. It was a display in a local train store (Willoughby Trains).
