It has been a busy week for me.  Haven't had time to catch up on the reading here.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Between the Calculus class and the Microprocessor Interfacing class, I have had a lot of work this week.  The 2020 I bought last month is trying my patience.  First, the front truck stud fell off, and now one of the drivers is wobbling on the axle.  I am strongly considering parting this one out.

Dr. John--
My first pick up was a used 4 x 4 Toyota Tacoma, nice little truck. Next one was a Nissan, liked it but didn't care for the small engine. In 2000 I bought the Tundra, what a truck, absolutely bullet proof and the body integrity is 2nd to none, it now has 97000 miles on it and still like new. I have two other Toyota vehicles sitting in the driveway besides the truck, hard to argue with the quality.

I just popped in to take a breather. I assembled the new gas grill, cut and hung some closet doors for my FIL, wrestled with my daughter over her attitude, and ran some errands. Now I'm making dinner for the kids. Wifey got called to work. Cha ching!

Dennis, 2 things. 1. Don't use spray paint on unpainted or unprimed pink insulation board. It will melt it! B. send me that F3 video!!!

Dennis,

 Afternoon All !

Buckeye, Wow 4k posts, talk about spreading a lot of bull. Wow!! [wow] Oops [oops] Think I stepped in something. Wink [;)]

Dr. John, I am in the same spot as well. My 81 Datsun/Nissan is just about ready for the recycle bin, can they recycle rust. So far it is either the Fronteir or the Tacoma quad cab but  based on what I have read I am more inclined to the Frontier. It seems that quality wise they are essentially the same, my only complaint is that they seem to have gotten much larger than they were even two or three years ago.

Jim F., Is it safe to assume that your posted plan is on a 1 foot grid ? That is a real nice track plan.

Don't want to wish any bad weather on you guys back east but I am DEFINITELY ready for winter, it has been so Censored [censored] hot'n'humid here it is almost impossible to do anything on the GRR. Will have to take out a second mortgage to pay the electric bill. Not even noon yet and we are already past 100*, can't remember the last time we ran the A/C 24/7 this much.

Have fun, play safe.

Good Afternoon Y'all!  Pouring down rain in these parts.  Good to have it, but when it comes down this much in such a short time.....well, it leaves a lot of flooding around.  Having some friends over tonight.  Having Grilled South West Salmon with a sun dried tomato vinegrette dressing and rice and veggies.  Steaming some shrimp too.  For desert, I cooked down some strawberries with a apricott brandy sauce that will pour over slices of pound cake with cream.

Jim, the "Widowmaker" is the LAD, or Left Anterior Descending artery.  If that was the only occlusion and they stented it, great.  Just make sure he takes his Plavix.  He will bruise easily on it, but recent studies of people with stents indicates a high incidence of in-stent stenosis unless Plavix is taken.  Hope all is well.  Doesn't sound like he sustained any damage to the heart muscle.

Picked up some spraypaint to paint some scenery on the pink extruded foam.  I hope it works well.  I have placed the sill seal under one complete level of the layout, only two more to do.  Also developing plans for the kids section which will be a lower level close to the floor that will have some accessories that just won't fit into the scheme of things on the main levels.  Found a bunch of Plasticville structures that I had forgotten about.  My son and I put them together last night and played a bit.  I think I will designate those to the kids level too.

Well, back to the honey do list.  I hope everyone has  a great day and gets plenty of train time in.  PS: I got the videos from the Train-Station yesterday.  They are great sources of information to identify fakes in the Lionel Trainmasters and F3s.  Glad I got them so that I don't overpay for a  reproduction Post War.  I am not sure if these videos are still being made, but they should be.

God Bless,

Dennis

Slept in till after 9!  I've been watching Heroes all morning - I think this is episode 13 now?  Need to get busy cleaning up those baement windows, but thanks for the comments on the track plan guys.

BTW: Thanks for the prayers.  I talked with Ron last night and he is doing pretty well.  They got him in the hospital with angina.  EKG was normal, enzymes were normal, but pain wouldn't go away even with morphine.  They went in to do a catheterization to see what was going on and he had a heart attack during the procedure with 100 percent blockage of the right lower artery (?) which the doctor said is the "widowmaker".  They did a stent and he got to go home yesterday.  They also found that he has hypertension.  He has been battling depression for a couple of years now and this has really set him back.  Ron is a good guy - went fishing together last month in Neoga IL with our friend Jeff.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Buckeye, congrats on the 4000 posts.

I'm starting to look for a new truck to replace my elderly '91 S-10 Blazer. I'm strongly considering a Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier. Wife likes the Honda Ridgeline, but they're more $$$. (To keep this train-related, I need something with which I can haul lumber for benchwork. Wink [;)] )

I want to be able to pull it into my garage, so I can't go full-size. Anyone have any experience with a Tacoma, Frontier or Ridgeline?

I have 3 friends who have the Tacoma and they all highly praise them.  For 2 of them, it is their second or third Tacoma with no problems.  I've had several Toyotas and have had no problems with any of them.  If they had a diesel crew that could tow 14K I would be VERY interested.

If really interested in what bugs a vehicle has, do a search for forums that is for the particular vehicle.  If the car has a bug the problem will be talked about frequently.  A lot of the forums are free, and some almost as nice as the folks here.

Dr.

Don't no much about the imports but my mom was looking at a Tacoma and it must be good cause my parents are Ford all the way. She had a Bronco that she ran till it hit 200,000 miles then bought a Jeep and is not impressed so if she's looking for a Tacoma they must be pretty good. As far as hauling she lives in the Poconos and hauls all kinds of stuff from lumber, supplies for the horses to deer during hunting season. I'll talk to her and see what she likes about them and let you know.

Have to work Sunday and Monday so it kinda stinks, but since Monday is the holiday so it' goes for holiday pay and that means more money in the long run. I don't go anywhere anyway too crowded to go anywhere this weekend. I'll just surf the web for that T-1 Duplex

A sunny sat morning to all,

Jim F, thanks for the invite but I had some ice cream early, check the coffee room and it was empty so went to bed early.

Chief-let buckeye stay, he's very news worthy.

I got the panels back up on the basement ceiling but can't get the cover back on the fuse box as it's built into a paneled wall and my head is still screwed up. no patience it will have to wait. I can run trains on the table now but not the scale around the walls as 3 ft. bridge to fuse box is still out. I must get panel cover on first.

That other Mag. arrived yesterday, still sitting where I brought it in, probably look thru it today, but don't feel like reading.         Regards,    Sir James

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny and cool 58 degrees. Going up to 78 today, with lots of sunshine.

Today, I will be mowing the grass. It is growing, from the rains and I'd better do it today, as it will be cooler than tomorrow. No train time today, but may be some tomorrow. This is the 1st of September, already, and summer will start fading away. darn.

Buckeye..... I guess you are gone. Gonna miss you. You have to get out from under that bridge. River water is no good for you.

It's hard to believe that the Indians MAY be headed for the playoffs. They beat the Chicago White Sox last night. What a game.

NASCAR from Fontana , CA  tonite and tomorrow night. Will be hot. It's time that # 20 got a win.

Dining Car waitress has has made the call for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Good morning. I think. I stayed up late with Julia watching The Sound of Music. First time either of us have seen it. Wellsir, Thing 1 and Thing 2 were up extra early this morning. I decided it would be best to climb out of bed and supervise them, since they have been known to get into the ocassional trouble. They were sitting on John's bed, looking out the window, talking and drinking orange juice...

Allergies are ramping up here. I have "hay fever". When I was a kid, it was 2 months of pure h e l l. Since I've "grown up" it's been much easier. But this year is shaping up to be a doozie. Such is life.

Off to do some carpentry at my FIL's house today. Cutting and hanging some closet doors.

Hey, I heard the Chief got himself a little beaver the other day! Good for you, Chief!! Wink [;)]

Hmmm - good trick, Don!  Seasoning the pot, is what I usually call it, though. You're cutting down on the seasoning!  Shock [:O]

Watching Heroes S1 on dvd now - pretty good!  After I missed most of the season, and buddys at work etc were telling me I would love it, I figured I'd just wait for the dvd set.  So far (ep 10) I love it, but weirder and weirder!  About ready to crash.  Lots of chores for tomorrow.  One place had gas for $2.41 today!  Of course, that was gone by the time I got home.

BTW: The Descent was very very scary!

John, I'll start benchwork after I get a plan that's close enough...  It's getting frustrating though.  I might just make a 4 x 8 to have something up and running for a while!

This is sort of what I want, but have to work in the details for operating accessories:

Want to be able to reverse the other way too....

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

John,

Got to show you the secret place for coffee when you get here as late as I do.  Just take the poon and scrape along the bottom inside of the pot, then run hot water over the spoon and I always get at least two cups that way.  Those guys on day shift NEVER turn the power off, (well Doug Murphy did once), and the water usually boils away.

4,000 That's a bunch, Hate to see you leave !!!  I'm concerned what the Chief will do.... Buckeye is probably the best at keeping him in check.

Brents Car Woes, is migrating out here.  Chris said the rear wheels are squeaking, OK brakes.., went to the shop the shoes and drum is in great shape, but the axle grease seal is leaking.  Saturating the  shoes with grease, combining with dust creating the squeak.  As you would expect the front disc, needed service.  So had that done.  Going to have the axle seals replaced next week.

Then this pm, was in wifes Buick, put down the back window and of course it came off the track.  Now it wont go down or up.  No idea how to get that door panel off.  I'm sure it prys off but usually there is a couple of large screws in the arm rest.  But cant find out how or where to access them.

Got up to 103 here today!!  Hotter here than Vegas!  Suppose to cool down by Tuesday.  Did get the carpet covering today, got all the track and switches.  So wonder what I will be doing over this 3 day weekend. ????Big Smile [:D]

The Nascar race is here at Fontana this weekend, it is going to be hotter than HE>> out there.  Last year the track was around 140, and then the stands are facing the afternoon sun, and are all aluminum.  Will be A LOT of exposure and heat issues !!!  Sure am glad Im NOT going this year!!!  I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some heat records set.  And Fontana IS on the edge of the desert!!  If you watch it on TV the High Desert is what is located behind the mountains, which is Barstow, Tehachapi Curve, then 325 miles to Vegas.

Remember be safe this weekend !!!

Good evening everybody. Got my Lionel 2020 back from the repairman. Looks like he did alot of work to it. It would run fine until it warmed up then she would start running jerky in reverse. I tried everything I knew to fix it but to no avail. Looked around the shop and it looks like the new K-line stuff is trickling in. Saw some super street track and train assoceries. Not alot though.

Good news the 736 I won on Ebay came and it was better than I expected. Need some clean and lube. It runs good. Just have to fix a small ding on the cab roof. I'll post some pics in the next "Sunday Photo Fun" Best of all I got it for $141 and some change

This morning ran myself ragget trying to find a Lionmaster Pennsy T-1. Must not have been popular cause can't find any shops that have one or nobody wants to give them up.

So I went and worked on the Hog. Gas tank vent was clogged and found a spot on the tank where the clear coat was starting to peel. Now she started fouling out the plugs. Should have not went with the S&S carb. They are to finicky always have to adjust.

The wife rented "The Shooter" supose to be good . I'll let you guys know.

Congrats ans so long, Buckeye!

Chief, I saw that item last night. The blue one, right? I already have a bunch of them. Four I think. I'll keep my eye on it.

I almost gave away a 6457 caboose because it has a crummy shell. But then I looked it over and noticed that the trucks are really nice, and one of them is equipped with a power pickup. I'll use it for spare parts.

Cooling off nicely here and looks like we might get a little much needed rain. But the weekend promises to be fair and sunny.

Looking forward to a semi-quiet evening with the kids. I think I'll introduce them to The Sound of Music. I wanted to help close the LHS for the last time, but will spend the time with the kids instead. He closes in 1/2 hour. Sad...
