The last thread was in 2006. I don't think Dave , the OP, has been active here for a while.
Have fun with your trains
V8Vega A thread on the Model Railroad forum titled Starting Over Ironrooster on 5-1-11 said some spend years building one layout, others build many layouts over the years, some even have several layouts at once. I knew that of coarse but I thought it was well said. Which one are you? I am working on my O layout.and the framework is up for a HO layout all planned out. I also have a very small HO layout built years ago. I was out of the hobby for years so after senery is roughed in on my O I want to get my small HO going again to reaquaint myself with HO and then build my bigger HO layout. I'm presently building a shelf/ceiling layout that started out to be an standard gauge layout but noticed I have room for actually 2 up there so plan to move the standard gauge to the back and build a O-27 in front will put the Standard Gauge on either 1X4's or 2X4's to give it a little lift in the back. Then plan to build an O gauge layout in the room and it will be apox 8' X 16'

Yup. A layout for the grandkids, a combination of Marx and postwar Lionel. A Super O layout. A layout for my girlfriend who loves Marx litho and someday a Standard/ Wide gauge layout.
OK then if we are restarting this thread, I have two small O layouts, one for pre war tinplate and one for postwar Marx. Two pizza layouts in G And one very small pizza layout in HOn30.
Every once in a while its good to go revisit and get new comments from older threads as things change and so do situations of different folks.
One traditional portable 11X 6 Marx layout and a 3x5 windup Xmas coffee table type display. If I had to do it over, I wouldn't ..No more layout tear downs! well...If I sold off everything, maybe standard gauge, that's about the only gauge I haven't built a layout for outside of microscopic Z gauge. I wouldn't mind see a photo essay on a Z layout just out of simple curiosity..I wonder how in the world they couple-uncouple those cars..with a tweezers? I had enough problems with N..reliable but too small for the kid in me. I would need binoculars to see where the train was with my eyesight.
Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.
I currently have the permanent layout with Fastrack and I am up to 2 portable layouts using O27 tubular track. Fun stuff.

I have two working layouts. One big one for the town and Intermodal yard and for my logging set up. The other will be mainly for a coaling operation. All layout are far from being done and a lot more thought has to go into them.
WONDER WHERE DAVE IS NOW?

I have considered making sections of about 6-7 feet from 2 Lionel 027 long straights screwed down to cut plywood so I can take them outside and run my 33 Lionel 9013 cars on one long straight section. Loops at each end would be at least 72 circles.

For several years, I have been getting my train fix working on the layout at my parents--but I think I'm finally ready for a small layout that will fit in my apartment. Add me to the two-layout club!
Where's Penny Trains response in this thread? I think she has like 15 different layouts.
Yeah, miss Dave and his posts about his layout and BB
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Here are my current layouts. All are located in our small basement (except for the Christmas tree layout in our living room)
1. 5' x 9' with 2' x 5' extention 027 Lionel postwar layout (this is my BIG layout)
2. 4' x 7' HO layout
3. 3 1/2' x 5' Marx tinplate layout (currently under construction)
4. Christmas layout (temporary) Marx tinplate under the tree, HO loop in the tree and N loop in the tree (up higher).
1 small N, 1 large O in benchwork process, 1 large N in trackwork and wiring. So I guess my answer is yes.
Boston's freeway system is insane. It was clearly designed by a person who had spent his childhood crashing toy trains.
