Adjustable train table legs.....
Posted by Boyd on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 1:51 AM
The first section of my bedroom layout is the "L" shaped part that goes behind and besides the bed (about 12" wide) then goes around a return loop. That section I put together kind of roughly and was shorter in height than the main 4x8 table I just put longer legs on. So the "L" shaped section had to have short 2x4s put under its legs to shim them to be level with the main table. After making drawings for adjustable add ons, wandering around Menards for over an hour looking, measuring and even looking at little adjustable sliders for the bottom I ended up buying 6" long 3/8ths flathead bolts, nuts and thick fender washers. I will drill 3/8ths inch holes in the 2x4 legs up from the bottom and install these bolts and have them adjustable. Anyone else made up thier own adjustable legs or is there something on the market? It will be nice to level my entire layout as the house I'm in is realy old with floors, walls etc all are uneven.

I used these on the tin plate layout at the museum. I pick them up at Loews The nuts have tabs that are driven into the wood so they don’t turn. These come in all sizes, #10 thread thru ½ “ thread. I used 5/16 – 18 threads and also pick up 5/16 x 2” long stove bolts and nuts.

The wood nuts are 2 for $1.00. The bolts were $0.17 each and the nuts were $0.08 each.
