Santa brought me a Lonel Classics #44 Freight Special new in the box. Gotta love people who bought trains like these in the 80's and never opened them up.[:D]

The Hobo Depot is cool - I bought that a few months ago. You have to blow the smoke fluid down the hole, then put on the chimney and it smokes for quite a while. Very cool accessory!

I was thrilled to get a the Lionel Life Savers Tank Car. It is new and still in the original box that I don't think it has ever been out of. The kids knew it is one that I alaways wanted.

Well,
Back from church, opened the gifts this morning and got several nice surprises. One thing I wanted for the layout was the Cracker Barrel store in 1/48 scale (makes me want biscuits and gravey or chicken and dumplings- a southern thing). Also got some of the usual goodies, sox underwear, etc. My wife got me a NYC Docksider. I understand that the Polar Express is on its way for my birthday in January. Above all, we got to see the expressions of our children's faces when they saw what Santa delivered. It was my daughter's first Christmas here in this country and she made it extra special.

Boy, what a great 'A Christmas Story' moment for my son when I asked him to take a peek behind that desk over there to find a box containing the gift he really wanted and didnt' think he was going to get. That's good enough for me - but I also scored 2 of Walt's trolleys - with those QSI soundboxes I have to figure out - and the entire first season of The Andy Griffith Show on DVD, as well as 11 CDs of old time radio detective shows - and the usual pajamas...

Dennis,

I'm curious about your Cracker Barrel restaurant in 1/48th. Where are those available from? That sounds pretty neat.

Thanks,

George

I got some new jeans and flannel shirts, the book (can't remember the title) by David Doyle about Prewar Trains, and a rifle rest. Also hauled in a few small items. The kids scored the train cars and accessories this year.

From Santa:
512 Standard Gauge Boxcar "Christmas Lines"
339 Standard Gauge Passenger Car "Vixen"

My favorite was a non-train gift, a set of Kreitler Rollers for my bicycle so I can stop the waist of a good beer.

George,
The Cracker Barrel restaurant I mentioned was on display for a short time at the restaurant in our area. They were sold out in quick order. I doubt they were picked up by train buffs, more likely ladies with Dept. 56. I will attempt to take photos and post when I get it on my layout..
[:)]IndyTrainNutt, I think I want you to play Santa at my house. Obviously you scored better than most. Hope you enjoy your haul.

WELL.........I woke up my 2 girls, 5 & 2, x-mas morning to the sound of music [trains that is]!!! First time I had these trains running since my dad ran them back when i was little and dont remember it at all. My dad passed away in july and beleive i brought him home to x-mas by running them and waking up the kids. it will be the family tradition to run them every year and throughout the seasons. It was the first time I displayed trains before and thx to your help here at trains.com I got them running just in time.

we had 17 people over for x-mas dinner and it was the life of the party. everyone loved them. i guess thats what my dad was trying to tell me all along. happy holidays and a happy new year.

I hope everyone had as good a Christmas as I did. As far as train-related items, I got some Polar Express add-ons, some trees, some Lionel Halmark ornaments, a train store gift certificate, some train magazines, some bumpers, a guide to Lionel trains (1900 - 1942) an MRC dual controller, and a Williams 671.

For train-related items, I received a Unique Art set (1950 electric steam engine, tender, hopper car and boxcar, but no caboose), a Marx set (666, NYC slopeback tender, PRR gondola, Erie flatcar, B&O boxcar and NYC caboose), a Bachmann HO model of the John Bull with 3 passenger cars in a great disply case, an O gauge Goldlok diecast battery operated set (this company normally makes cheap plastic sets, but this one is made entirely out of heavy diecast metal) and a set of four molded wall-hanging plates depicting British steam locomotives (A3, A4, Princess Coronation and Merchant Navy, with some liberties taken in the designs). I also got nice non-train stuff, too, of course.

Sask,

I came across a couple of Unique Art tinplate deisel locos that were in remarkably nice condition a few months ago while on vacation. I can't remember the livery, or how much they were being sold for, but do remember how nice they were. I actually thought they were Marx, but then the owner came by and showed me the Unique Arts nomenclature on the back. He was an HO guy who had never heard of that company. I got an Atlas O 2-track Truss Bridge, a couple of Frisco 1522 videos (one of which I may be in), a picture of the 1522, and a ceramic church to go on the Christmas O layout. I also got the four Lionel ornaments fro Hallmark. Although it wasn't under the tree, I managed to win an eBay auction at the last minute: a Ron Morris repro Scenic Plot w/ Bungalow to go with my Standard Gauge stuff. Even better: the sellers are Jim and Debby Flynn! I got to talk to her yesterday on the phone when I paid. I also used Christmas ca***o order a copy of David Doyle's Standard Catalog of Prewar Lionel directly fromt he source, and he's even going to autograph it for me ;-) Wonderful people!

My wife got a hot-off-the-press Bachman On30 Rail Truck--it bizzes down the track like a champ.

My older son got a LN New Yorker set from 1994--the mixed tran pulled by the lightning-striped RS-3. He also got a baggage car for his Lego Super Chief.

My younger boy got a Lionel Rail Van (the orange one from about 7-8 years ago) NIB, and two Duplo Thomas sets (one Thomas, one James).

The boys also got volumes 4-12 of "I Love toy Trains."

There was also some non-train stuff. My wife, for example, loved the hand-stitched quilt that goes perfect with the colors in our bedroom.

Hello all,

First time here, just trying to learn. Santa (wife) got me a Lionel Santa Fe Fast Freight set. Something for me share with the kids. I've loved trains since I was a little kid, walking to the corner hobby shop and watching the mountainous train layout going round and round.

Looks like a great place to learn and share. Any tips for a first timer? My goal is to start working on a 4x8 layout and see what happens from there.

Happy Holidays,
David
