Belmont Carousel Repair

To my learned forum crew.
I finally took my Belmont Carousel back from my wife[^] so I could place it on the Christmas layout. This is the first time it was actually plugged in. From the start, you can hear the plastic teeth missing on the gears. When a little down pressure is applied to the turntable, it will rotate a short distance and then stop again. Has anyone had this and how was it corrected? I am not sure about the disassembly of this item and was hoping for a easy fix before I start attempting it.
