UNC-CH '05 NCAA Champs Train
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 19, 2005 5:23 PM
Last week K-Line delivered its Carolina Blue train comemorating UNC-Chapel Hill''s 2005 NCAA round ball championship in March. Not being a UNC-CH fan myself, I had one shipped from the Train Loft direct to my son and daughter-in-law in Raleigh who are "rabid" alumini. I prefer not to even look at it.
K-Line also produced a separate commemorative boxcar that is not duplicated in the train set. I expect [}:)]Duke fans will distort the boxcar by gently heating it with a torch and using it as a desk set.
Also,I expect sales in the state of Indiana will be slow[:D]

The one thing I find somewhat ironic about some of these new Porter Set offerings is that the cars included with the new scale proportioned, scale detailed switcher are the old 027 cars derived from the MARX tooling only with scale couplers.

I've always wished these smaller cars had stayed more in the production line with new and changing roadnames, but they got sidelined with the change and emphasis on scale proportioned products. They certainly have price appeal (especially for folks with kids or budget modelers) and do look good on a smaller layout. The 027 six pack just reoffered again has remained the same exact 6 cars for the past decade.

Over the years, many have moaned about these cars saying that K-Line is just MARX, or griping about the decidedly non-scale size of the cars. Yet now they have prominence in several K-Line sets. I wonder how the scale crowd likes this? I'm just really surprised they don't offer their scale sized cars in these sets, other than cost cutting. The scale guys know what they like.

I wi***hey'd start putting some 027 truck sets on the "S" scale cars (which have some nice and new paint schemes) and putting them in either sets or making them available separately.

Leonard, Miss Edna at Todd's had some sets Saturday. Next time give her a call. [919-365-5006] I've found out that her prices are a lot cheaper than the Train Loft [$11 cheaper on her K-Line cars].

Hear is the box car I presented to one of my Town Board members who is a UNC-CH fan [the lesser university].
