Lionel Care and Maintenance

I have several old Lionel collectable locomotives, what is the best way to clean and poli***he main rods and clean the boiler without causing damage to the paint or the rubber and heat stamped numerals? [8)]

Disassemble the locomotive, including hex-drivers to remove the side rods.

Wash your boiler casting off in warm soapy water, using mild dish-washing detergent. DO NOT use Tide or similar clothes washing detergent.

Use a very soft bristle tooth-bru***o reach all those nooks and crannies.

Use a Scotch Brite pad on the hand rails.

Try a non-abraisive metal polish such as Noxon on your rods and linkages.

Don't forget to clean or replace your motor brushes and spray some TV tuner cleaner into the e-unit. Lube, and reassemble.
