Do you ever get tired of running your trains forward?

If so, why not run them backwards. That's what VRE does half the time. It's like putting the cart before the horse! Ha ha ha. Neuck Neuck Neuck

This the famous Sounder that VRE stole or borrowed from Washington state to run in Washington DC and Virginia. It is zooming past Crystal City VA in reverse! See the headlights on.



Same train moving away from us in reverse; with red lights on the colorful locomotive.



This older VRE train is moving backwards just 10 minutes after the aforementioned Sounder. Doesn't the front end remind you of a doodlebug?



This next photo is an older VRE train moving forward to Crystal City. If it were moving backwards, the red lights would be lit.



Apparently, Amtrak is not enamored with the idea of running backwards. Here's the tail end of an Amtrak train that delayed my train by 10 minutes.



BB the beagle thinks it's a dumb idea to run backwards. How, she says, would I ever catch those wabbits. Here, she relishes a piece of rawhide after chewing up the rug under my squat rack.

Or like Metra. These days, you can find everything from a string of new burnished stainless-steel sided ADA cab cars led by an MP36PH to a ratty, multi-colored string of ex-C&NW, ex-MILW and ex-BURL cars with a tired F40 (on my line) I especially like the long consists (11 cars or so) coming out of the station with doubled F40s pulled to the yard by a UPY GP20 or something else.

There was a lot of discussion regarding cab cars and push pull commuter operations, over on the Trains Magazine forum, after the accident in California earlier this year. Personally I agree with those that feel pushing is a more dangerous operation, as the cab car offers less protection for the train. It is certainly more dangerous for the operator.

As for my models, I never back up, unless I'm switching. Some of my engines are no longer capable of reverse, as they have had their eunits removed and are hard wired.

Bob, thanks again for the tip about wiring the motors in series to slow down my speeding Little Joe. I did it and it worked great for the show the weekend before last.

That's easy, split the switch and run one truck down each track. I've done it hundreds of times. I'm sure a lot of other people have too.[:0][:p][:D][;)]
