Tinplate Reproductions ??

Hello All: About a month ago we compared post war originals with repro's. I have started to take a liking to some of MTH repro's mainly the passenger set's. There is something about the sound of that clanking tin that has a romance to it. What are your thoughts on the repro's ?? ( Let's stick to the Tinplate only) Kind Regards To All Steve[:)]

The tinplate repros made by MTH (both Standard Gauge and O gauge) are better made than the originals, in my opinion (thanks to improved technology) and certainly offer more features.

I'd see them as a way to get hold of a model that you don't have to worry about running - originals can be vulnerable to damage/wearing out, as well as often being very expensive. The repro models have the look, but at a fraction of the cost and with no worries about accidental damage while running them.

I think the MTH tinplates look really great and agree w/the "clanging". Better yet, for those who can't afford to have another scale (Scale 1), there now are 3-rail O models.

Tinplate reproductions are good for the hobby. They often allow us to fill voids in our collections by offering affordable alternatives to scarce and high priced originals.

Personally, I'm thrilled that MTH is making tinplate repros. Their quality is superb, and the price is right, in most cases. I'm almost completely out of O gauge now because of the Standard gauge reproductions that Lionel and MTH have offered in the past few years. I love all that metal! [:D]
