How many Engines,rolling stock does everyone have?

I have 45 Diesel engines Lionel, and Atlas. I also have over 200 pieces of rolling stock(lionel, atlas, mth, K line). What is average for everyone? Just wondering because my wife always says I have enough.

Hello macaste,
I have about 200 pieces of o gauge,of very mixed makers.(Lionel,MTH,Marx,Unique,Hafner,Flyer,)
Around 20 pieces of S gauge Flyer.(just getting started in S )
250 pieces of HO scale.
And about 125 pieces in N scale
And no you can never have enough trains!
My wife says the same thing.

I have over 1000 cars, and probably about 75 engines. I wish I could get an accurate count. I've tried twice, but I keep getting sidetracked before I can finish.

I have "about "100 locomotives and "about" 400 pieces of rolloing stock. Like Elliot I can never seem to get an accurate count because I order more stuff, train shows come, a good deal presents itself, well you get the idea. As for having enough, well thats up to the individual. I know that I will probably never run all the trains I own. I have just about reached the point of "enough". As for wives, well my ex wife never cared for the trains all that much but did not give me any grief over what I spent. ( which back then was not much ) My ex girlfriend however was different. If I spent $200.00 for a locomotive, I had to spend $200.00 on something for her. She seemed to kept track too. And if I ordered something well she was home during the day to get the UPS deliveries so I was out of luck there. One time when the brown truck came and went she asked me "How many of those things are you going to buy, don't you have enough?" I smartly responded "Well dear the Union Pacific has about 8000 locomotives so I guess I have a ways to go". That made for an interesting week. I've heard it said that some wives say As long as all the bills are paied and there is food on the table I don't care how much you spend, or well I have my hobbie so you can spend on trains if I can spend on ( fill in the blank) And of course there is as long as your interested in trains I know where you are and you not spending the money on other girls or at the bar.

I Have about 40 loco's and 350 freight cars (which includes 100 Conrail
coal hoppers). Still working on a BN unit grain train.
I'm blessed with an incredibly understanding wife,even if she

I have only what I can park on the layout: five 'trains' led by a pre-war 248, a pre-war 2-4-2, an MPC-era FA, an MPC 2-4-2, and the Ballyhoo circus engine - a Berkshire. They pull a smattering of cars - the obs and passenger for the 248, five pre-war litho freight cars for the pre-war 2-4-2, ten MPC plastic cars for the FA, a few Ballyhoo circus cars, and the famous 'Flying Lionelosi' 1701C twisty-tied behind the other 2-4-2. Apart from the Ballyhoo, the rest belonged to my dad who now has Altheimers. Like Jerry says, they're not much, but I love 'em.

I just did a rough count and in O and S gauge together (which includes a bit of everything from American, European, Japanese and other manufacturers in electric and clockwork), I have over 110 engines and over 350 cars. In HO (which besides regular HO trains, includes vintage collectable toy HO trains), I have just under 150 engines and about 600 cars.

I'm afraid to make an accurate count. But I can safely say that I have about 10 times the engines and 100 times the cars that I need or can run.

I need help for my addiction!

Let's see, my layout has or will have 400 feet of mainline. That translates to about 1/2 mile of 1:1 track or so. With about 10 locomotives, a passenger train, and a couple dozen freight cars, that is WAY too many for 1/2 mile of track!

I just started in the hobby a month and a half ago. So far the count is 2 locomotives and 10 pieces of rolling stock. I'd like to purchase a Beep and a Lionel small Berkshire, a NYC Flyer passenger extension set, and some more freight cars.

Gee, that sounds like my ex, except the part about me not being able to buy what I wanted.

Over the years I made a lot of sacrifices to compensate for her spending. Now she goes out and buys a new car, and I'm left driving a 12 year old pickup with over 200,000 miles. Just getting started, so the count is one engine and seven rolling stock O gauge lionel.

Let me answer it in two sections, one for what is on my current layout and then what is within my display cases:

My Can-Am HO layout has 30 locomotives (diesels) - 58 passenger cars (including 8 powered RDC's) - and 22 freight cars (including cabooses).

The three 4 x 8 ft wall mounted display cases with 8 shelves each, are loaded with trains from former layouts - all HO. 34 locomotives (one 0-4-0 switcher, rest all diesels) - 87 passenger cars (6 RDC's) and 73 freight cars (including cabooses).

By the way, I do have an inventory of these things and at times it snaps me into reality regarding just how much has accumulated over these years!

I have no idea. [?] I 've been collecting since year one. Many pieces have moved into the Twilight zone [alien] and surface from time to time. I have begun an inventory as a New Years resolution. My plans are to thin it out and use the proceeds to pruchase "O" 3rail scale loco's. [:)] I estmate around 500 loco's in various scales and 1000 plus cars.

about 9 engines, about half semi-scale and half full O scale (I have to go back and count, never thought I'd get that many), and about 30-40 freight cars and 5 passenger. I'm scratchbuilding the rest of my rolling stock and don't need no more engines. Have enough to do w/repairs for the ones I've got. Also, a bunch of HO stuff I use for spare parts such as motors.

Hey sanman your mom and dad must have a large house. I had my train layout in my old room. My mother told me she needed the space so I had to put everything up. When we(me and wifey) bought our house, I wanted to use one of the rooms for my layout. "No way" said the wife. I had to wait until I cleaned out the garage. She let me have 3/4 of the garage. I was lucky to get this. My wife has a study reading room and I get some of the garage. Your mom and dad are nice to let you use their house.

Hello All: Let's just say between the engine's, bridges, building's,rolling stock etc. We could easily buy a condo on the gulf coast. Been collecting for twenty year's, as I see it this is why we work hard to enjoy the candy in life. (It also helps to have a great wife & two Kid's who are understanding ). My daughter say's I need help & should go to train's anonymous, My Wife & boy constantly remind me that they will be cashing in the stash shortly after my flag has fallen. Until that day comes it's been a great run. Steve

WAY, WAY, to much stuff! Probably a couple hundred powered units & dummys, not to mention maybe a thousand freight and passenger cars. I've sold off some excess stuff a couple of times and it's getting close to the time to do it again. The problem is the new cataloges come out and there is always stuff you "just got to have"! It's a never ending cycle.
