Happy Halloween Everybody!

And in the spirit (no pun intended) of the occasion I present to you the trailer of one of the scariest horror movies ever made!

I remember watching it as a kid of eight or nine and the last few minutes scared me so much I ran across the living room and buried my head in the couch pillows!

Meanwhile on the other side of town Lady Firestorm, who I hadn't met yet was watching the film and was so scared she ran upstairs, jumped into her bed and pulled the covers over her head!

Therefore, without further ado, dare you enter...

Growing up, a very sensitive child, my parents decided to spare me and my siblings from scary movies until we felt ready for them. As it turns out, I just don't have the stomach for horror, and I still can't handle it. I remember enjoying the stop motion films The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride many a time over the years, and still love them both- I wasn't introduced to Coraline until I got older.

I remember watching the Munsters several years ago, and that was really fun- I should revisit it.
Lately there's this one song that's been especially stuck in my head which is great Halloween music- someone made a fun little video for it too.

Yesterday and today, I got started on carving- I absolutely love carving gourds and pumpkins. Here's a few of this year's creations (with more to come!):

These two are all sketched out, and ready for carving tomorrow:

Happy Halloween!!

Oh, I don't know.  It's eerie certainly, but it didn't scare me when I saw it, I just knew the friendly neighborhood aliens weren't going to hurt the little boy.

Then again I WAS 24 years old at the time the movie came out!

Yeah, that's creepy all right, and VERY appropriate it's pulled by a black diesel!

Diesels are evil...Devil

Steam engines are like big friendly dogs!

That gondola full of eyeballs reminds me of another monster movie classic, "The Crawling Eye!"

Nice job on the gourds and punkins Ellie!

We did ours yesterday.  Tonight they go out front, but instead of candles I use the pots from railroad lanterns.  A nice flame and more wind-resistant.

Wanted to update: Here's the whole assortment of Jack-o-Lanterns!

I did all the little ones, and the big one on the right. My youngest brother did the one on the left- it was going to be more complicated but we were short on time! They were a hit with visitors to my family's "trunk or treat" setup, which I may have to share later. It was themed after the animated film 'Howl's Moving Castle' (based on a book), but I'd assume nobody here would know it.

I had a feeling I could count on you, Becky!
My dad created an excellent likeness of Calcipher in an afternoon (seriously, not sure how he pulled it off so well in such a short timeframe!), and originally my mother was going to be Sophie... which she did, for the daytime 'trunk or treat' at the school where she teaches. But come Halloween night, she was too worn out- so I offered to be her understudy.
Most of the kids didn't recognize either of the characters, but we had a fair few teenagers and adults who were very excited when they saw what we'd put together.

If you want to see, drop me a line via the contact info in my youtube channel and I can send you a picture or two. But since I'm clearly in the pictures, I'd feel more comfortable not posting to the forum.
