Just got full set of Toy Trains magazine and couldn't wait to dive in while waiting for wife pre op cateract surgery appointmen. In oct 1953 a writer named George Dahm wrote a very engaging article about how "My Dad" built a very wondrous layout in 2 weeks right before Christmas. Just a great return to my 8 year old self! So well written and not in a literary journal--in a hobby magazine. Loved it!
That's a great find! You don't see them around much.
I think there are typically a few copies available but i never saw a full set Before. I had been looking perhaps once a month. I now am lucky to have a full set of model builder and a full set of toy trains. Bothe found within about 6 weeks this late January through about March 1.
most interesting to me, more even than the trains, is the picture of the lives of some Americans 60-80 years ago. the articles are Marty and Doc's time machine, without the Delorean or flux capacitor!
You know, what I've always found really fascinating in old magazines are the advertisements! They're just as interesting as the articles!
absolutely correct! and some of the cover art on Toy trainsis great. Dad and son on living room floor playing with temporary set up, and mom on the stairs looking on as if to say "There you are--are you still fooling with these things--whatever will I do with you?"
