Good Morning all.  Still very cool in the mornings, afternoons heat up to the 60s and 70s.  Supposed to hit 80 later this week.

Spent some time repairing a smoke unit fan on a Lionel 3751 last evening.  Got the dreaded 3 blinks.  Put a new motor in and after the first attempt, inpeller was on to far, the error went away.  Nice locomotive to work on.  Not to hard to get to the parts.

Not sure I'd tackle a car Roy but my brother is all about older vehicles.  Has a couple of Cordobas he is working on.

Afternoon all!

Cloudy and cool due to the new storm in the Gulf. A few sprinkles - of course I ran the lawn sprinklers last night for the 1st time in about a month.

Working on the replacement - junkyard - wiring harness for the El Camino. Tracing and ohming out all the wires per the wiring diagram. Good news. Only one wire is bad near the connector - and I can easily splice it. Another connector has the insulation broken at the connector. Need to see if I can release the terminals and resolder. ANother spot has the foil shielding missing for the distributor pulse detection. I will rewrap it with foil overlapping the good foil. Need to clean the wiring and then rewrap the areas where wrapping tape came off or was not used (they used that corregated plastic cable wrap like one uses on their stereo cables which broke into thousands of pieces as it was never rated for eng compartment temps - it started falling off when the car was only 5 years old). I have new engine harness high temp wrapping tape.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 40-ish in the Potomac Highlands.  There was a frost warning overnight (that I wasn't aware of), so hopefully the palm tree is ok.

Yesterday, prego-princess, Wifey and I travelled back to Baltimore for the oldest grandson's 1st Holy Communion.  About 2 dozen children received, all beautifully dressed, and masked.  Had wonderful gathering at his great-granparents' residence, then we returned to WV.  Long day.

Cold start to the morning at 41 degrees.  Basically the same the past 2 days.  Spotted Orion up in the morning sky a reall indicator that winter is on it's way.

Played around on the layout a bit.  Swapping some rolling stock.  Hoping to get a table set up for staging engines.

Got the 1/2-18 tap and die in yesterday. Made a test part out of aluminum and it works. Have some brass hex stock on order and will make 8 plugs this week when it comes in.

Good Morning,
Not a lot of change around here, the fires are still going, not a lot of relief there.  The Bobcat Fire just north of us has no consumed over 91,000 acres, and is only 15% contained.  Currently, it is movine in a Northeast direction.  And the weather is cooling down some, and humidty goin up, so maybe another week.  The ones in Northern Cal are worse, most of them are on Federal property, and roaring.
We did have an Earthquake Saturday am, it was a 4.8, and centered in South El Monte, about 20 miles north.  It was a real Shaker!  It occurred right about midnight.  Fortunately no damage that I'm aware of.  (Nothing fell in the train room either.)
Situation with MIL may be changing soon, we have been looking at Assisted Living facilities in the area.  She insists on living alone, and finally agreed she needs help.  Her balance and stability has really dropped.

Banks, and Fife sorry to hear about your Moms! 

Roy you need to get some rest, your working too much!

They say home is where the heart is so I am going home October 2nd and 3rd at IMS for the Indycar road races there.  Again, not the oval and not in May, but it is at THE track, as we Hoosiers say.  (Maybe sort of like THE Ohio State...maybe not).   Hoping to persuade wife to go, if not, one of the kids.  With Bourdais driving for Foyt, could be a top 10 finish as well.  Good days at work.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Wrmcc that's why I quit working on cars except I am still working on restoring my Del Sol after the wreck, almost doneand it loks good again. I decided to paint the wheels, I did this years ago and it takes awhile.

Aging: Eventuall you reach a point where you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

Haha Dennis (on both points!)! And yes - the ordeal may be a reason to give 'er up also. At this time I do not mind. But if something gets daunting (like a buddy suggesting I just pull the engine - did that a coupe times years ago in my youth - not now) I will just sell it. My barber is very interested....

Hello there.

Got a call Wednesday, Mom tested positive for the Wuhan. No symptoms but she was moved to isolation. Sucks I haven't been able to see her since March.

Roy.......glad you were able to get the air lines out of the manifolds. If you're replacing all that stuff on the AC it might be good to just go ahead and replace the compressor. Age and heat couldn't have been kind to the seals.

Summer is over, cleaned the farm house furnace. Got 9 ton of coal a couple of weeks ago, ready for another winter. Haven't lit it yet, probably this weekend if the guessers are right. Been using the gas log an hour or so each morning.

Spent a little time sort'n and chucking too.

Emptied the swimming pool yesterday while putting the new canopy on the camper. Drying it and getting it in the basement is today's project after Mrs chiropractor appointment.

Thinking about spending a couple of days at Blue Knob State Park next week. Haven't had the camper on since last October York.

Morning. Slept till 9:15. Sat and relaxed with coffee until the cell started about the feeding Dream Center [non-profit delivering the food boxes for me]. Seems they are doing good job. Means I do not have to rush out on Fridays [will help some]. Been doing food deliveries since March. Sun has finally come out.

Finally got all my outlets and power strips around edge of layout installed.  Thanks to the rain and not being able to do outside things.  Got 3" rain. 

Got big meeting with El Centro Hispano this afternoon. They have grant to get out in the Hispanic communities and educate on mask wearing, prevention and testing.

It's FRIDAY!  Not much planned this weekend.  The house will be mostly empty.  Cool temps all weekend long not getting out of the 60s.  I love the fall.  Closed the pool last weekend so looking to just cut the grass on Saturday.

Will probably be in the basement a little to mess with the trains.

Hey, Happy Pre Friday!!

Yeah, this project will be a 3 or 4 man project, probably not going to do mountains, just for the sake of time, but looking to animate as much stuff as possible with what I have.  The main table will primarily be my concern, Jenni will help, looking a a double track main with a HUGE passig siding on the inside.

I'll need to dig out my HO track, build a drag strip out of that and get that up and running.  The fire scene is probably easy to do, since I pretty much used to run those anyways.

I'll most likely start assembling the drive in soon.  Mel's is a slam dunk.....

Got the estimate on the Magnum, if I go with Dodge it's $2500......I'll see what I need to do and try that first.

I appreciate the offer of help, guys!!  That would be so cool, a CTT Forum project, almost like the traveling O scale cars.....

Afternoon folks!

Sunny and warm here. Another scan scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. No worries. Had dentist appt this am to make up for the one missed when they shut down in April. No problems as I was extra diligent on brushing/flossing since April.

Got back to the El Cam project. Spent the last 2 days removing the ruined A/C hoses/fittings, etc., (from the fire) and the old accumulator. Good news is the compressor turns nicely by hand. Did not want to try turning it until hoses removed as I did not want to risk sucking any debris into the compressor intake/output ports. Sealed all the A/C openings. Then started working on removing the Air Injection pipes from the exhaust manifolds. Got 6 of 8 flare nuts out fairly easily (well if one says soaking with WD40 and carefully wrenching over the period of 4-5 hrs easy) using my 9/16" flare nut wrench, but the last 2 were ugly and would not budge. The nuts also started to round off even with the 6-point flare nut wrench. And of course they were the 2 most inaccessible (next to A/C air box). Was able to cut the stainless pipe close to the flare nuts using a diamond dust wire saw in the hacksaw frame then and hammer a 6 point deep socket over the remnants of the SS pipe and the pseudo rounded flare nuts after more WD soaking. Got them out painfully/slowly and did not damage anything. This took over 2 hours. It is good as removing the exhaust manifold on the passenger side is extremely tedious. It is good to be reasonably patient - but only cuz this is a project car - had it been a needed daily driver I would have been spewing...

Raining but not hard. Guessers say hard heavy rains tonight. ?? Back from a face to face meeting with Deputy Director of Human Services. Then we sat together for a zoom meeting with my Regional Directors. Good meeting. Fried Chicken for lunch.

Mornin' boys.  Mostly cloudy and 55 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  I will be re-organizing the fife-shed today.  I wll also try to locate the wire bird feeder that was snatched around 0130 hrs last night.  

With a final trip to Lowe's, the bathroom re-mod is finished.  New LED vanity light installed, towel racks, shower curtain rods, and toidy roll thingy on the walls.  The rest of it is hers to decorate.

anjdevil - You can get a GIANT jump on this project, if you pre-build and carve your mountains out of thick white foam boards.  Paint them all gloss white, and while the paint is drying, apply the loose granular type snow, along with copious amounts of glitter.  If I were closer, I'd lend a hand.  But if your Co. has some Junior volunteer kids, it would be a good time to get them hooked.  Advertise with local fishwraps/area radio couldn't hurt.

ANother cool day on tap.  Even colder weekend ahaed.  Got to visit dad yesterday.  He's been in "lockdown" at the assisted living since March.  The folks there did an awesome job at protecting their residents but he is ready to be able to get out and about.  

Cleaned some more stuff out of the basement.  I have a small setup going but looking towards next year to get a permanent thing going.

Talk about a cold bucket of water to the face!  I can't remember the last time I saw a car with a bench seat, in the front anyway.

Maybe at a car show in the antique and classic section, but that's it!

Some big news: Tyler passed his driving test on Monday! Of course, it wasn't without some major drama - we got to the testing center and were told that we couldn't use our Saturn to test because it doesn't have the emergency brake in the center console. What? And we couldn't use my Mercury for the same reason. What the hell? So we scrambled and finally got the driver's training company that Tyler used to send a car up to the testing center. Of course that cost us $110. But we didn't have much choice, we would have had to reschedule and, with the NJ DMV, who knows how many months we would have had to wait.

What? They are now including drifting during the driving test????

Hey, Happy Hump Day!!

Fife - Yeah, I was taking notes - this has to be a quickee put up and take down, the powers that be may not let me do an extended set up and tear down, the fire chief was a bit of a d**k when I was doing it in the engine bay (without being in the way of the members or apparatus, that and the Ladies Auxilary president complaining about the smoke in a garage) hence the reasoning for not doing it the last 2 years (and they didn't ask or miss it).  This is purely to generate cash and I can run it on my own terms and disassemble by New Years Eve.  Has to be up by Black Friday (I'll say build time 1 week of evenings).

I'm looking at doing the 8 X 20 with viginettes of an HO drag strip (my cars that will actually run), fire scene (I have the MTH house on fire) with water and apparatus, Drive in theatre (with DVD player) and Mel's Drive in main street cruise scene.  

2 other layouts with tubular and 262E set with plasticville and a kids LionChief with remote so the kids can be otherwise occupied.  I might do 1 more, but not sure.

I'd like it to be an annual thing, but the hall committee may have a dim view of it post china virus.  But we'll see.

Mid 70s here in Central NJ, cloudy.  

Road tests in NJ have always been like that - the test dummy in the passenger seat needs the e-brake handle so he can stop the car....yeah, good luck with that.....it never really worked in most cars - used to need a bench seat as well but with most cars having a console, the state nixed that.
