Afternoon folks!
Had another doc appt this am - ugh...sunny and may hit 90 today and then back to low 80's for the weekend...
Working on the electrical for the El Cam and pushed the AC reconstruction back a bit as researching the issue of residual mineral oil in the evap and condenser. No way to know how much is in there without taking the cores out and turning them upside down. All tubing connections up high and no way to blow them out/flush in place. New refrigerant will use Ester oil - which is compatible - but mineral oil does not properly evaporate into the refrigerant and too much in the system affects cooling as it just pools in the bottom of the evap and condenser, blocking those fins. Thinking of using a brake/power steering evacuation jar with my vacuum bleeder and a small tube to try and get down into the evap and cond bottoms to see if there is any oil that can be sucked out.
I am thinking of dummying the various inputs to the ECM and then crank it up and see if the ECM still functions.

Chief......best thing to do is have the tank cleaned and recoated. At least keep it full of ethanol free gas. The ethanol attracts water which promotes rust, attacks the gaskets too.

Hey, good morning................Rained most of the day yesterday, after work, got the recycles out, vacuumed the house and tried to get the road runner back in the driveway. During the drizzle part of the rain, I was out with the Simple Green and scrubbed the driveway again. The road runner was dead, I drug my HD 100' extension cord out and put the battery charger on JUMP and she fired up. She's back in the driveway the trickle charger is on it now. Should ok later.62 and breezy right now, up to 70 later. Mostly cloudy.Once the moderator (whom shouldn't have been moderating....he's a lousy moderator to start with) lost control, I watched the Yankees/Indians game. Poor ol' Chuck (AKA Blueberry, RIP), was probably rolling in his grave 12-3 Yankees. Elimination game is tonight. I'll be running to Trenton later, I have to get a 20 X 20 tarp to keep our feral colony warm and dry, may make a little area for them to keep warm during the winter. Might run up to the train store as it's in the area.Off to work, check back later

Sunny cooler good morning. 59 degrees. Little over 1.5" of rain last night. Mira is at the vet. She finally came in late. Didn't sleep good as Wiley [Yorkie] barked off and on during the night. ???? We had Mira inside so Wifey could catch her. Vet took her but will not see her until 10. Still not eating.After picking her back up [unless they keep her] will rush to Wifey's cousin to clean gas tank on tractor. He said bowl was full of rust yesterday. Carry new gas and see if there is product to put in tank to prevent it from rusting. Maybe keep it full of gas.Did not waste my time watching the fiasco last night.Have a great day.

Mornin' boys. Clearing and 53 in the Potomac Highlands. Will head down to the railyard in a bit to perform some scheduled work, then it's off to the Middle Princess's castle. Wifey is house/dog sitting for a few days, and I'm painting the nursery and upstairs hallway, while the happy couple is away.
My opinion, the debate was a dumpster fire.
Oh man, every fall I remember the cider and hot donuts at Van Ripers. It was just a short drive from our house in Park Ridge. Lot's of other things I still miss but that is one of the most missed. Wayne

Sunny and cool - fall weather for N Texess!
Chief - yep - I have some of that butyl rubber sealer rope - have to put it into freezer to be able to use it - used it for the plastic weather sheathing for the El Cam interior panels. There also used to be an automotive rope "caulk" for lack of a better term. Easier to use than the butyl and frankly just as effective. I used that when I had to remove and reinstall the heater air box and the plastic sheet weather door sheathing on my '68 Vette.

Morning. Slept good but got to bed late. Mira the cat had been real sick and couldn't find her for 24 hours or so. I found her yesterday afternoon on some OSB board on top of beams in top of shelter. Wifey couldn't get her down as she would show caws. I got her down by tapping with stick on boards. She came down and drank water. Got better and better [quit throwing up]. Came in late last night [about midnight] and did great. Still not eating but drinking water a lot. Now comes when called. Animals can "fix" their own problems.Roy, remember old style windshield sealing rope. Wills tick and seal anything if clean surface. Sticks to fingers too. I use it for vehicles and boats. Use it for train cars too. Will hold weights and etc. Actually held grits in hidden places in traveling cars. Try it. Still available at car parts stores here. May go work on tractor or maybe tomorrow. Depends on Wifey's cousin's schedule. Ran good until about the time I finished mowing front yard at FIL's. Suddenly starves for gas. Then runs some and starves again. Something in gas tank [had to be removed and washed out before getting it to run] or something got past bowl and into carb. We'll see. Need to mow Friday or grass getting to tall. Super big yard.Hope all doing OK.

Friday night's adventure to see Little Shop of Horrors and Rocky Horror was quite good. We took the road runner. It did drizzle a bit during Rocky Horror (we sat outside) and it was a bit cool, but was fun. The girls had to get up to work the next day, which sucked. I was home and in bed by 1.Saturday cleaned up some debris and plants by the side of the house and then to Jenni's. We went to Outback for dinner, then Rita's for dessert. Sunday we took a short ride, topless as the weather was nice, to the NJ Fire Museum antique truck show. Our 1914 American LaFrance was on display as well. Took off to get lunch at Popeye's then shopping for food. Finished up the last 3 episodes of Man in the High Castle during a great chicken dinner with mac and cheese and corn made by Jenni. Up at 5 for my clinic study and that's done. Just trying to catch up on work.Mom is hanging in there, looking better and doing an hour nap in the afternoon. then she's up til midnight......Another hour of this and I can rest - I'm exhausted, lol!!!

Lotsa progress yesterday. Got the El Cam wiring harness rewrapped with Tesa tape. Good stuff. Got the fender inner liner out and was able to get the old harness out and the new harness installed. Broke a couple of clip nuts that are used to attach panels to sheet metal. Found them at Chevy and NAPA. Banks suggested ACE, but my local ACE is further away.
Got the wheel well inner liner scrubbed and reinstalled today and working on wrapping that up. Somehow lost a 6 mm fender bolt, so will have to pick a replacement up in the next few days.
Dennis - I took machine shop in college, got to use the skills sporadically through the years, and started aquiring machinery about 15 years prior to retiring. I have a 1937 Atlas 10" lathe that I completely rebuilt, two 1940's South Bend 9's (A 9A and 9B), and a small Harbor Freight lathe and milling machine. I enjoy the machines and am always learning, particularly from some Youtube shop guys.

Don, they are free game, wild but you would not know it with the three Toms. The three Hens run as soon as they see you but the boys have gotten used to us and like to eat under wife's bird feeder. No fear.
This is the first year they have been here all summer, every day. In the past you would see them for a few days then they would be gone for weeks at a time. The other strange thing is this year I have seen no chicks. They must of been eaten by the coyote around?
Spank, you need a whole house fan up there in the attic or another one if you already have just one. That should cool it down.
Good Morning,Thank you very much for all your condolences and thoughts! Kays Mom has been in the hospital since last Tuesday, her respiration rate had dropped, and her kidney wasn't functioning well. Her heart ultimately failed. She was 89 and simply said her body was just tired. Kay is doing remarkably well, as we all know it is a long process, but I am certain she is going to be able to handle it. I KNOW things are going to be different, so tolerance, patience, and supportive comfort is the primary objective for me.

Good weekend. Didn't do much in ways of needed things but spent time with the grandson, diddled with the trains, and did a 24 mile bike ride on the Montour Trail.
The weekend was warm but cool at night so it wasn't terrible. I like the cooler weather and temps are going to dip this week with some rain.

Mornin' boys. 61, as the sun is trying to burn off the dense fog, along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Not sure what's on the agenda today, other than watching/snoozing through the Cup race this evening.
Spent a good portion of yesterday with the Youngest Princess. She wanted to practice parallel parking for her upcoming test, using her sister's car, as the Durango too big for her. We roasted marshmallows right after dinner. I actually ate my meal next to the campfire, which was relaxing. Started to think of Blazing Saddles...
My neighbor was helping me cut up a fallen tree, and I finally got him to check out the layout room. He has American Flyer S, and a few samples of Lionel Postwar. Ran trains for him, and he enjoyed the show. Actually inspired me to whip up another tray of spring trees. I'll be needing some more light green ground foam before I can create any more.
Got CTT today. Good issue. Watched the high school kids play today. Thought the boys might pull off a win but things did not go well the second half. I had heard of the Madison Poster place but that was mostly postwar. When Train Express closed, they were selling a lot of dealer posters back then. Should have bought it then..... Not a dumb question, the only dumb question is the one you're afraid to ask.
As to posters, your best bet may be to visit train shows if and when they start up again. There are railroad and toy train ephemera dealers out there, keep your fingers crossed and hopw you get lucky.
My club's got a show scheduled for November 15, I'll be making a separate post about it.

Hello there. Thanks for the Prayers. Got a call late last night. Mom not doing so good. At 99 her body dosen't have the strength to fight it. Made the decision to keep her at the nursing home and let the chips fall where they may. Flintlock......condolences. Don........Prayers for you and yours. Charlie.....that looks scary. How is the trap shooting going? Kev.....nice El Camino. Mine is a 70, 307 with the Torque glide 2 speed. Bought it in 74 just after the gas crisis. I looked at a 71 with a 396 4 speed. Afternoon All,
Been a little hectic the past few days, been trying to provide moral support for Kay, her Mom isn't doing to well. Last weekend she was pretty good, but took a big turn on Monday. Her visiting nurse was in for a routine checkup and Kay was concerned regarding her demeanor, etc.. Tuesday Kay took her to a wound clinc at the hospital, when they went to leave she was having respitory problems. Kay took her to ER (next building), and she has been there ever since. Currently on a breathing treatment and vitals dropping, not eating, and very weak. Fortunately, they are permitting Kay to visit her in the hospital. (visitors are not allowed unless it is severe.) I don't think her Mom will be coming home. Its in the Lords hand now.
This has been a long time coming, but Kay is preparred as much as she can be.
Sorry for such a depressing post.
Oldest Granddaughter retrieved from her Mom's work [Mom is Community Coordinator for Raleigh PD. She is sworn]. Has to work tomorrow due to planned protest for Breonna Thomas. What the h--- does Louisville KY have to do with Raleigh? Just something to protest over. Raining and raining. 3/4 of and inch so far. Enough coming down to get you wet if you are outside. Guessers crying flash flooding even though latest computer update says less rain than previously forecasted. Was a messy drive to Raleigh and back. Stopped at BoJ's for biscuits.Nana Pam is allowing G'daughter to watch TV. On her school lunch break. She was doing classes while riding in the back of the Caddy. Can do school from satellite network and cell towers. Never dropped her signal. Just do away with schools and save all that money on buildings. [School officials scream when I say that!!!]Later.

Got two exhaust manifold plugs made so far. Took a while to figure out best fit and create a drawing for the first one. The second one took a while to determine best machining sequence - trashed one in the process (cross-threaded it).
I owned a 1976 El Camino - silver - plain jane model - that I bought from a guy whose daughter used it to haul hay and tack for her horse. Low miles and they sold it when she went to college. I started to trade it in for the 1984 model and a guy at work who knew folks at the Chevy dealer down the street found out. Chased me down at work and offered me more than the Chevy dealer - I was OK with that! That was the last time I had a car payment - saved and paid cash after that.
TGIF for those of us unretired........Got out late from work last night, then took a nap, totally missed fire drill.........A BK dinner and then to bed......FOGGY here up to 80 or so. Nights have been comfortable to chilly.Blasting off early tonight, off to Vineland for Rocky Horror at the drive in......should be a good time. Bringing Jenni, my Princess and her consort.Bad part is, it'll be a late night and the girls have to work in the morning......That's all for now................

Chief, Here is my 72 El camino. It was an AZ army car in drab green when I got it around 1998. I rebuilt the 350 and painted it re-sale red, drove it for about two years. Sold it to a nut job at work who JUST HAD TO HAVE IT.$$$$$ . Those are Pontiac wheels on it.
Morning. 65, cloudy and dreary. Need to see guessers report and find out what is instore. Think tomorrow is 70% chance of rain. Had a very early virtual Human Services Board meeting. Got up early so I could go to BoJ's for biscuits for all [dogs too]. Good meeting without a lot of graphs and charts. A lot of that in our usual meetings. Some required to review and accept [by law]. Others get boring as in our agenda packets. Probably trip to Sam's Club for dog treats [cheaper than Walmart] and coffee filters. Then whatever around the house.SJ, condolences. Sounds too young.
The El Camino I owed was a 71 with different body style. SS with scooped hood, hood tired downs and mag wheels. I drove it, Dad drove it until he died and Frankie drove it for years. Had 260K when we sold it to a restorer. Was an outstanding vehicle. Mainly had to replace valve cover gaskets a lot. Had 350 V8. Would fly. I had it on straight level highway at 2 AM one morning responding to a fire. 120mph and I let off. Have a good day.
Well not as cold this morning. Had a good small session in the train room last evening. Filled the room with Pine scented smoke fluid. It was still lingering this morning when I left for work.

Back from doc appt. A couple more to come. Cool here at 64 - gotta lotta gentle rain the last two days from the hurrycane...looks like it is moving on. Sister sent me a pic of the bayou on the north side of their neighborhood. About to go over the banks. This is the bayou that flooded out their neighborhood a couple of years ago - somewhere around 800 homes trashed, Many still not occupied/repaired. Used to be a very nice neighborhood.
Dennis - surprisingly the El Camino was built from 1959 through 1987. The version DonB and I have are the 5th generation from 1978 - 1987, called the G Body along with the Monte Carlo (shared chassis, parts, etc). The 5th gens are very popular. From '82 on, they only built about 20,000 or less per year.
And - Dallas is having terrible problems with street racing, including blocking freeways and major intersections. A few bystanders have been killed. Idiots. But they have closed all the local race tracks so no place to go "show off".
Brass hex stock showed up yesterday so on to fabricating the exhaust manifold air injection port plugs. Wiring harnes straightened out and located per the drawings. Marked locations of junction with tie wraps for the rewrap. Will work back and forth on the harness and the plugs.
Kev - that is a substanitial foundation - hope they used the new rubberized thick coatings on ot before .

Hello there. Thanks for the Prayers. Mom still has no symptoms. Been almost2 weeks since her test. Hope the western fires are slowing. Checking in from Blue Knob State Park. We decided to get away for a couple of days. Surprisingly phone calls and network access working. Rich.......thanks for the explanation. Former coworker had a Ford with traction control. He hated it. Almost got him killed. Pulled out in a hurry on wet road and traction control shut off both wheels with oncoming traffic. RT.....you're probably better off with a come along. Travel is limited with a ratchet strap.

Home from taking El Centro Hispano on a tour of the 9 mobile home parks I have serviced. Now they are doing their action plan on testing and masks distribution [think food at the same time].Got home and attacked a 3 foot around fire ant nest. Wifey had a 1 foot round concrete garden ornament next to one of her pathways. They had built around as well as under it. Treated all around and on the ornament. Thousands came out. Then took a small pecan limb and rolled the ornament out. Thousands more ran out and all over the place. One got my hand as it ran up the pecan limb. You should have seen the horde charging out around the "home base". More granules and water. The queens started coming up. Will watch to see if they all die or just move over.Now chores. Tomorrow, Tax Appeals Board.

Northwoods, No, I go up to Mark's on I39 to Jamesvill then 26 to 151 to 41 to 141 to Crivits then A to C to Silver Cliff most of the time. This time I did a bunch of back roads going up and came home 43 to 120 south to 47 in IL. When I go to Tom's I take I39 to 51 all the way to 170 west.

Sunny and up to 80. Good weekend, more family get togethers as most of the women folk converged to see Jenni shop for wedding dresses on Sunday.
Not much activity going on since the weather has been cooler. Need to pay off the Magnum and scoot her home, probably going to order a right rear axle and get that done.
Clinical study will be over on Monday, and that's good, I hate getting up at 5 AM.

Good Morning all. Still very cool in the mornings, afternoons heat up to the 60s and 70s. Supposed to hit 80 later this week.
Spent some time repairing a smoke unit fan on a Lionel 3751 last evening. Got the dreaded 3 blinks. Put a new motor in and after the first attempt, inpeller was on to far, the error went away. Nice locomotive to work on. Not to hard to get to the parts.
Not sure I'd tackle a car Roy but my brother is all about older vehicles. Has a couple of Cordobas he is working on.

Cloudy and cool due to the new storm in the Gulf. A few sprinkles - of course I ran the lawn sprinklers last night for the 1st time in about a month.
Working on the replacement - junkyard - wiring harness for the El Camino. Tracing and ohming out all the wires per the wiring diagram. Good news. Only one wire is bad near the connector - and I can easily splice it. Another connector has the insulation broken at the connector. Need to see if I can release the terminals and resolder. ANother spot has the foil shielding missing for the distributor pulse detection. I will rewrap it with foil overlapping the good foil. Need to clean the wiring and then rewrap the areas where wrapping tape came off or was not used (they used that corregated plastic cable wrap like one uses on their stereo cables which broke into thousands of pieces as it was never rated for eng compartment temps - it started falling off when the car was only 5 years old). I have new engine harness high temp wrapping tape.

Yesterday, prego-princess, Wifey and I travelled back to Baltimore for the oldest grandson's 1st Holy Communion. About 2 dozen children received, all beautifully dressed, and masked. Had wonderful gathering at his great-granparents' residence, then we returned to WV. Long day.

Good Morning,Not a lot of change around here, the fires are still going, not a lot of relief there. The Bobcat Fire just north of us has no consumed over 91,000 acres, and is only 15% contained. Currently, it is movine in a Northeast direction. And the weather is cooling down some, and humidty goin up, so maybe another week. The ones in Northern Cal are worse, most of them are on Federal property, and roaring.We did have an Earthquake Saturday am, it was a 4.8, and centered in South El Monte, about 20 miles north. It was a real Shaker! It occurred right about midnight. Fortunately no damage that I'm aware of. (Nothing fell in the train room either.)Situation with MIL may be changing soon, we have been looking at Assisted Living facilities in the area. She insists on living alone, and finally agreed she needs help. Her balance and stability has really dropped.

Hello there. Got a call Wednesday, Mom tested positive for the Wuhan. No symptoms but she was moved to isolation. Sucks I haven't been able to see her since March.
Roy.......glad you were able to get the air lines out of the manifolds. If you're replacing all that stuff on the AC it might be good to just go ahead and replace the compressor. Age and heat couldn't have been kind to the seals. Summer is over, cleaned the farm house furnace. Got 9 ton of coal a couple of weeks ago, ready for another winter. Haven't lit it yet, probably this weekend if the guessers are right. Been using the gas log an hour or so each morning. Spent a little time sort'n and chucking too. Emptied the swimming pool yesterday while putting the new canopy on the camper. Drying it and getting it in the basement is today's project after Mrs chiropractor appointment. Thinking about spending a couple of days at Blue Knob State Park next week. Haven't had the camper on since last October York. Best get toit. Prayers for those in need and the end of this pandemic.
Morning. Slept till 9:15. Sat and relaxed with coffee until the cell started about the feeding Dream Center [non-profit delivering the food boxes for me]. Seems they are doing good job. Means I do not have to rush out on Fridays [will help some]. Been doing food deliveries since March. Sun has finally come out.Finally got all my outlets and power strips around edge of layout installed. Thanks to the rain and not being able to do outside things. Got 3" rain. Got big meeting with El Centro Hispano this afternoon. They have grant to get out in the Hispanic communities and educate on mask wearing, prevention and testing.Enjoy your day.
It's FRIDAY! Not much planned this weekend. The house will be mostly empty. Cool temps all weekend long not getting out of the 60s. I love the fall. Closed the pool last weekend so looking to just cut the grass on Saturday.

Yeah, this project will be a 3 or 4 man project, probably not going to do mountains, just for the sake of time, but looking to animate as much stuff as possible with what I have. The main table will primarily be my concern, Jenni will help, looking a a double track main with a HUGE passig siding on the inside.
I'll need to dig out my HO track, build a drag strip out of that and get that up and running. The fire scene is probably easy to do, since I pretty much used to run those anyways.
I'll most likely start assembling the drive in soon. Mel's is a slam dunk.....
Got the estimate on the Magnum, if I go with Dodge it's $2500......I'll see what I need to do and try that first.

OK, I'm back to work, another hour + 15 minutes to go
Sunny and warm here. Another scan scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. No worries. Had dentist appt this am to make up for the one missed when they shut down in April. No problems as I was extra diligent on brushing/flossing since April.
Got back to the El Cam project. Spent the last 2 days removing the ruined A/C hoses/fittings, etc., (from the fire) and the old accumulator. Good news is the compressor turns nicely by hand. Did not want to try turning it until hoses removed as I did not want to risk sucking any debris into the compressor intake/output ports. Sealed all the A/C openings. Then started working on removing the Air Injection pipes from the exhaust manifolds. Got 6 of 8 flare nuts out fairly easily (well if one says soaking with WD40 and carefully wrenching over the period of 4-5 hrs easy) using my 9/16" flare nut wrench, but the last 2 were ugly and would not budge. The nuts also started to round off even with the 6-point flare nut wrench. And of course they were the 2 most inaccessible (next to A/C air box). Was able to cut the stainless pipe close to the flare nuts using a diamond dust wire saw in the hacksaw frame then and hammer a 6 point deep socket over the remnants of the SS pipe and the pseudo rounded flare nuts after more WD soaking. Got them out painfully/slowly and did not damage anything. This took over 2 hours. It is good as removing the exhaust manifold on the passenger side is extremely tedious. It is good to be reasonably patient - but only cuz this is a project car - had it been a needed daily driver I would have been spewing...

With a final trip to Lowe's, the bathroom re-mod is finished. New LED vanity light installed, towel racks, shower curtain rods, and toidy roll thingy on the walls. The rest of it is hers to decorate.
anjdevil - You can get a GIANT jump on this project, if you pre-build and carve your mountains out of thick white foam boards. Paint them all gloss white, and while the paint is drying, apply the loose granular type snow, along with copious amounts of glitter. If I were closer, I'd lend a hand. But if your Co. has some Junior volunteer kids, it would be a good time to get them hooked. Advertise with local fishwraps/area radio couldn't hurt.
ANother cool day on tap. Even colder weekend ahaed. Got to visit dad yesterday. He's been in "lockdown" at the assisted living since March. The folks there did an awesome job at protecting their residents but he is ready to be able to get out and about.
Cleaned some more stuff out of the basement. I have a small setup going but looking towards next year to get a permanent thing going.

DJSpanky Some big news: Tyler passed his driving test on Monday! Of course, it wasn't without some major drama - we got to the testing center and were told that we couldn't use our Saturn to test because it doesn't have the emergency brake in the center console. What? And we couldn't use my Mercury for the same reason. What the hell? So we scrambled and finally got the driver's training company that Tyler used to send a car up to the testing center. Of course that cost us $110. But we didn't have much choice, we would have had to reschedule and, with the NJ DMV, who knows how many months we would have had to wait.

Fife - Yeah, I was taking notes - this has to be a quickee put up and take down, the powers that be may not let me do an extended set up and tear down, the fire chief was a bit of a d**k when I was doing it in the engine bay (without being in the way of the members or apparatus, that and the Ladies Auxilary president complaining about the smoke in a garage) hence the reasoning for not doing it the last 2 years (and they didn't ask or miss it). This is purely to generate cash and I can run it on my own terms and disassemble by New Years Eve. Has to be up by Black Friday (I'll say build time 1 week of evenings).
I'm looking at doing the 8 X 20 with viginettes of an HO drag strip (my cars that will actually run), fire scene (I have the MTH house on fire) with water and apparatus, Drive in theatre (with DVD player) and Mel's Drive in main street cruise scene.
2 other layouts with tubular and 262E set with plasticville and a kids LionChief with remote so the kids can be otherwise occupied. I might do 1 more, but not sure.
I'd like it to be an annual thing, but the hall committee may have a dim view of it post china virus. But we'll see.

Road tests in NJ have always been like that - the test dummy in the passenger seat needs the e-brake handle so he can stop the car....yeah, good luck with that.....it never really worked in most cars - used to need a bench seat as well but with most cars having a console, the state nixed that.

Just a guess on my part since I haven't taken a driving test since the Jurassic Age, but probably they want an emergency brake handle in the center console so the ride-along examiner can grab it if needed. Again, just guessing.

anjdevil - Wise Avenue actually pitches most of the layout after each season. They try to conceave a different look every year, that's why if you look through the youtube posts, its appearance is never the same. It is rarely super-detailed, just lots of trains, and lots of lighting effects. A few years back, some of their membership wanted to deep 6 the annual layout (takes a lot of work and attendance). The community lashed back, and a local doctor donated 10K, which shut up the lazy-boddies. Jarrettsville VFD leaves their train display UP all year long, but it's only open for the holiday season. They started with a modest garden, and continually add to it.
Still cool here in Western PA. Today will be the warmest of the week. The fall is my kind of weather. Nothing exciting to report. Had some time with the grandson last night. He's really starting to get into things. Time to baby proof the home I gues.

Banks - the place I used is in Chattanooga - they are Slow...typ 4-5 weeks to do 4-5 reels. He said it is all in real time - no way to spped the process. I recommend you find a local place where you can walk in, ask how they handle (i.e. do not loose) your film/tapes, give them a test reel and see how it comes out. The place I am using handles all formats from film through Hi-8 and Sony DV.

It was good to be at Mid-Ohio. Foyt team did as expected (badly). Weather was mostly dry. Lots of track action. Support races were extra good. Got to schmooze with some of the Road to Indy people and got my pic taken with a F2000 race winner, which was really cool. Hopefully can do Indy road races in October. Good therapy this weekend. Didn't get anything with flanged wheels but spent a quiet day with Mrs. I did pick up a Mantua and a Marx boxcar at the flea market yesterday. First time there since the craziness started. While there I talked to a member of the club that sponsors the Altoona train show. He said they got the ok to hold their November 1 show. Not holding my breath . We've had enough rain to turn the grass green. Mowed twice in the past week. Even wacked where the Roundup wore off. Mrs and I canned more maters and beets last week. Done for the year. Still have maters and zucchini going strong. Lots of pumpkins but they're not turning orange yet.
Roy.......is the motel shortage/cost related to the storms? Where did you get your home movies converted? I've got an old paper grocery bag full in the attic. Should probably get the VHS stuff I have converted too.

Just got a batch of 8mm home movies back from the digital conversion. So far 10 reels - 5", each with 5 small rolls of spliced film, have been converted to MP4 and DVD, The MP4's are great and can be downloaded - so my sister in Houston is able to get them also. Can scroll through the MP4's so very convienent. Still have 20 reels and maybe 10 or more 3" rolls. Dad took a lot of photos and film.
Very interesting to see us kids at the first years of Six Flags Over Texas ('61/'62). Rides were donkey pack train rides, stagecoach rides, canoes (that held 20+ people sitting side-by-side - and you paddled!), a raft ride to "Skull Island", a narrow guage steam train ride, a miniature gas automobile ride, an aerial cable car, a couple of trolleys, carnival scrambler, wild west gunfight, etc. No one would go if this were the fare today - and think of the liabilities!
DJ - I have been watching a couple of Youtube series about folks building old school wooden boats. I think your skills in making little/special wood parts to fit between spars/etc would be welcome!

Headed back, this time traversing Lincoln Hwy (PA 30), and stopped by Carver's Trains, on the west side of Gettysburg. This little roadside house is packed floor to ceiling with old trains. It's not the store you go into if you're looking for ebay prices, but it certainly is the place to go if you've been searching for certain items from the postwar era. I netted a Plasticville Cattle Pen that I've been trying to find for sometime. I could have spent 6 hours exploring the shelves in this store, and Mr. Carver is a most kind and helpfull merchant. Wished his store was closer to Fifedom.
In my abscence, my lovely wife decided to "touch-up" some spots she wasn't happy with. Now, let's put things in perspective. Ms. Kelly is a darn good cook. Her singing voice is somewhere between Karen Carpenter and Judy Garland (not kidding). She keeps a maticulously clean house (bring your white gloves). However, a paintbrush in her little hands is equivalent to hemming trousers with a chainsaw. Fifey has more work to do now.

I’m off and the kids and bride at school.
Going to start a project. When we moved into our house three years ago, we loved everything except 1) the carpet, 2) the kitchen. After several months of planning and selecting styles and colors (know what I mean Fife?) we’re replacing the carpet in the living room with wood floor. It was ordered a few weeks ago and came in yesterday. I’m going to pick it up and let it acclimatize and start laying it Saturday or Sunday. Part 2 of the projects, the kitchen is awaiting delivery of the cabinets. They have been on order for 5 weeks and should be in in a couple more weeks. The new kitchen appliances are in the garage excepted for the fridge and it is in a stove warehouse waiting on us.
I’m sitting on the front porch watching 4 deer eating acorns. There are a lot of acorns this year but they seem smaller than last year.
On this anniversary of 9/11 the phrase “Let us forgive, but do not forget” comes to mind.

Plenty of room above for three shelves. Wifey wants to store some dinner wear. Said tired of pulling out items and tightly packing dishes in the two built in china closets in dinning room. Good Afternoon,Managed to get a haircut yesterday, barbers opened again yesterday, hopefully for good. We live on the border between LA and Orange counties, Orange county is at a lower Covid risk than LA, so restaurants, shopping centers, and even theaters ar now open in Orange county. However they are limited to 25% occupancy, according to the news customers are reluctant to participate. Many businesses on the LA side are really crying "Foul".Of course the fire situation is not improving much, it is being proclaimed that 2020 is the worst fire season yet, and its just barely begun. They are saying over 7600 fires through out the state, consuming over 2.3 million acres! The closest fire to us is the Bobcat fire, which is about 30 miles north of us, and with the Santa Ana winds today and tomorrow, the fire is moving south. It won't come this far to many cities in that distance. Ray Sugg lived in Glendora which is at the base of the foothills where the fire is located, that area is being evacuated as there is only one ridge line the fire would need to overcome. Many, many homes would be in the path if the fire overcomes that ridge line, all the way from Cajon Pass on the east, and Pasadena to the west.It has been raining ash here for the past 3 or 4 days, cars look like they have a covering of snow, and you can see the flakes floating in the air. Obviously, not a good thing to be outside breathing it.Rolling Power Outages are going on, but we haven't been affected yet. Its going to be awhile before all this gets under control.MIL situation not getting better, I think she is realizing that she needs to be in an assisted living facility, so that will help our situation, and be better for her. Took an early ride with SonIL to Cabela's this AM. Picked up a new pair of Danner Pronghorn hunting boots. My ones I have now are 6 years old. Put these on the shelf and see how the old ones do. Subject to "crash" soon. Only wear them hunting. Last year, noticed if I stood in water long, right one leaked. Gortex so not suppose to leak.78 degrees and spotty rain showers off and on. Same for tomorrow. Humidity is horrible.Rest of the day, maybe a little of this or that. At least Wifey can't have me out doing her labor in her gardens.Have a good one.

With her left foot and leg being in pain, after a long shift at work, she can barely move......I was home by 11.....Apparently we had an earthquake about 15 miles from here, I was dead asleep and didn't feel or hear a thing....and 2020 rolls on....wtf is next.....I've been feeding some of the squirrels by hand here, we feed the wild animals bird seed, peanuts and dog food (for the foxes that hang around here). I have 2 that will come up and take a peanut from me. Some of the others will get close and I'll toss one over to them.Tomorrow's plan is work, then meeting. NY electric trains sale and then 9/11 I'll have to plan what we'll be doing, we still haven't decided.Since the fire house hall isn't making any money, I'm trying to plan having a huge train layout in the hall and run trains Friday Saturday and Sunday during the Christmas season. Donations or admission. God knows, I have enough track and rolling stock......

This met HRM's approval, but there was some critiquing from the throne. We ate at Applebee's tonight ; scratch that establishment off my list. Did get up the mountain twice to visit Mom. It's been a blessing each sunrise. When the nurses shows up, I fish out back at the pond, until their done.

I knew about it on the radio and knew a way around it but the freeway was going good so I stayed on and got caught in a traffic jam. The had parked a firetruck crossways on the freeway taking up 3 lanes and only one lane for traffic when I finally got there. Absolutly no need for that, they could have taken 2 lanes at the most. Really pisses me off when those in authority flaunt their ability to make life misarable for thousends just because they can.

V8 - If you saw the carnage that stupid, inattentive drivers do to my brother firefighters, police officers and EMS, you'd understand why they do that. Most people could give a rat's a$$ about what we are doing. I am part of a department that does fire and EMS to the NJ Turnpike. Fife will mostly agree with me....those people could care less what you are doing, they are busy with their I phones and texting and music and whatever else will distract them from driving responsibly.
I understand your frustration, but this isn't because the authorities can do it, it's to safe guard our police, fire and ems - My fiancee, my Mom and my daughter all want me home alive.

Synopsis of the weekend - Took Jenni to the doctor's office on Friday, and opened a joint account. Saturday took Mom to breakfast and did 1.5 lawns - I broke the deck on the riding mower at Jenni's there are numerous stumps hiding in the grass, I thought I missed it, but something broke - that will be a project for next Saturday or Sunday. Spent 4 hours on the Magnum yesterday and same result - not shifting. Speed Sensor fault and TCM fault.....not sure what my next move it at this point. We made all the right calls on this one and still same result.Line/Exec meeting tonight, then run over to Jenni's for a bit to clean the guinea pig cage and bring her left overs from the weekend.Off tomorrow night, Thursday night regular company meeting and NY Electric Trains big no shipping cost sale. Friday - 9/11 I'm thinking of head to NYC for a bike ride to Ground Zero and still planning either Sunset Beach (Cape May) ceremony or Jersey City and Bayonne for Tribute Lights and the Tear Drop.DJ - Glad everyone is OK.....

Oldest granddaughter was one of 50 some 8th graders sent home to quarantine for 14 days due to a "possible" exposure to someone they won't identify.
Hope all had a good holiday. Spent the week doing some house stuff and preparing for a trip to Delta PA, south of York, for a dirt drag. It was about 3hr 15 drive. Got my old Elsinore out, changed the oil and washed off most of the crud. Son had a good day winning the 250 and 400 class and 2nd in 500. Loosing due to way to much wheelspin to a bike he'd beaten soundly in an earlier round.
This evening was a picnic at daughters place with all the usual fare. Son and his family were no show. Not sure why. Best post this and get to sleep. Prayers for those in need and the end of this pandemic.
Sunday Lucas and my wife and I went to Indy Museum of Art to see an Edward Hopper exhibit. Very neat. Lucas showed us another part of the museum we had not seen which was cool as well. Went to Fazzoli's for lunch and Barnes and Noble for some train magazines. A good day. Rested today. Did make motel reservation for Mid-Ohio. Really looking forward to the weekend. Going to Mid-Ohio is part of "normal" although the better half won't be going. I hope everyone has a good day.

Whew, it was hot here yesterday! 105 ! That is extremely rare for here. Then the fires of course comes with it, we got a showering of ash overnight. One fire is about 30 miles from our place, and it apparently was started as a result of a "Gender Reveal Party". But it is suppose to be significantly cooler today, low 90's.

Watched the Nascar races over the weekend, enjoyed all 3. The Xfinity race I think was the most exciting, a really fun finish. The Cup was OK, was hoping Jimmie Johnson would pull out a win, but didn't happen. (Pit Crew had too many mistakes.)
Was outside yesterday only twice, once in the evening to water, and it was very warm.

Busy morning. Breakfast with Wifey's friend and hubby outdoors at restaurant. TV Church. Left immediately for Harbor Freight. I got discounted LED florescent shop lights and she got white outdoor lights . Of course, we went by garden/nursery center. She bought two plants and looked at a $100 fish for her pond. Had to install lights atop big pergola out front . Now inside. Will do my lights tomorrow.Wifey wants to start decorating fall tomorrow.

The healing is in process. Spent a wonderful day at IMS watching the Road to Indy cars compete (also a Mazda Cup (MX-5) event ). Got to see about 2.5 to 3 hours of racing on the road course. No tickets sold nor was the event advertised but the museum was open and so people could park there and we could watch on the spectator mounds inside the oval turn 2. We could see the action from the end of the back stretch to the last turn before the front straight. Weather was perfect. Some people were prepped for the whole day with folding chairs and food and others came from the museum when they heard cars on the track. It did my heart good to see wheels turn at IMS..... Not the same as May and not the same as the oval, but it was........home. Met a person I used to race against over 40 years ago. Sometimes you do something and you are pretty sure it is the right thing to do and then you get additional confirmation you were supposed to be there. I also heard today Mid-Ohio is on and fans will be allowed so next weekend is busy as well. There will always be a pain in my heart from this year, but all this helps..... I hope everyone has a good day.

Well they weren't to far off, they missed it by two degrees. We peaked at 115* instead of 113*, either way it is to damn hot. Heaven only knows what the electric bill will be, but on the bright side we haven't been part of any of the rolling blackouts. Yet !

Morning all, yesterday's project was to jackhammer a small ditch across the driveway to run conduit so I could run two circuits to the shed, and get the extension cord up off of the driveway and change it from one circuit to two. Done and wired up and all is good.
I moved the heavy workbench out there the other day. I still have a heavy cabinet I need to move out there. It's 7' tall x 3' wide and 2' deep made out of 3/4" Plywood with 3 shelves in it made out of 3/4" plywood.
Today no plans for anything strenuous.
81* going to 87*, a welcomed cool down, from the past few days.

Home. Had cute little lady riding with me. Dream Center [Church volunteer organization for feeding and etc.] assistant director. We covered all the trailer parks and individual stops. I bought her a cheeseburger and fries from food trailer. Came to house to eat. Pam and her visited. Then picked tomatoes, hot peppers and grapes. She left with a bag full. Lives with her folks about 6 miles from me. Originally from San Diego.So hot and humid Wifey is just sitting inside and not gardening. Now I'm doing the same. Need to mow again. Maybe later as it gets cooler. Tomorrow and Sunday to be really cool. Wifey talking about fall decorating.

Kids and bride off to school and have the house to me and the dog. I’m enjoying breakfast with fresh perked coffee and a morning breeze on the front porch. I’m going to open the bee hive and put some traps for the small hive beetles that have taken up residence. It uses no chemicals so the honey is not affected. I’ll put on a new band saw blade to make foot for a gate leg table that was passed on to us from the bride’s mom’s stuff. And if doesn’t rain, cut some more grass, but that is wishful thinking.
88 – I use my code reader quite a bit on my own fleet and on friend’s cars. It is an Actron and about 7 years old. If I were to get another one it would be a code reader that goes for $100 called blue driver. It sends the info to your smart phone via an app. Tells codes and probable fixes. I used one a friend has and it is really nice.
Kev – Good troubleshooting techniques. We’ve got several trees that need to be brought down. The power company marked 5 they are going to drop. There is another 5 or so I’d like to get dropped, in a controlled manner.

I bought two (one from BAVAuto for the BMWs - they don't use the same code system every other manufacturer uses, and one from Advance for all other cars) they paid for themselves on first use because of how much mechanics and dealers charge to pull codes... Will Wifey ever choose a color? TheQ chose a color for the old house entry way, I'm color blind so I just painted. First time her Dad walked in... "Who would paint their walls a neon purple?"SOS - Never eaten it, never will. My uncle was a cook on a destroyer during WWII... he wouldn't eat it, so figured it wasn't safe for human consumption. Chief - that is heartbreaking!WRM - I've had a number of head scratchers over the years. Every time I do a brake job I have to head to NAPA for a new socket of some sort. I think I have metric up to 25mm now and SAE up to 1.25inch... don't ask.

Got a special socket (octagonal) so I can replace the high pressure A/C service port on my 2001 GMC Sierra P/U. For some reason - likely just to be different - GM uses a stupid/unreliable spring ball valve instead of the common Scrader valve for the high pressure A/C service port. It failed and let all the refrigerant out. Apparently these ports fail a lot and the replacement uses a standard Schrader and hex socket. So the goal today is to replace the port, pull a vacuum, hope the vacuum holds, and recharge the system.

On my arrival and our first breakfast wasn't on the serving line it was kp. After that I was very hesitant to eat some items the rest of my time in basic training and it also carried over into tech school. My eating habits didn't change until I was finally able to live off base and my BetterHalf could join me.
I grew up around WW2 and Korean war vets. One thing they all complained about was SOS. It sounded awful. Later when I went into the Army they took us from the induction center to Ft. Knox Ky. We arrive late at night so my first Army meal was breakfast. You guessed it, I took one look and saw SOS on the serving line. First thought was wow SOS for my first meal. BIG SURPRISE WAS THAT i LIKED IT. From then on I looked forward to it for breakfast. Whenever I ate in mess halls I never really had much I didn't like. Wayne

PennyT - I've been lucky that my LHS is still kicking and we can go there. Trains and Things lives on, lol. Whenever we go someplace, we make sure to stop in the LHS to support them, no matter how little we spend.

I learned to like it at Walson Army Hospital in Fort Dix, NJ. No, never made the military, however, being a US Navy brat, I was often hospitalized with the vets from 'Nam. Great bunch, I was a teenager then. Most mornings it was SOS or eat nothing. Army food wasn't that bad, I gotta tell ya.

88........I use ALAWAY eye drops by Baush and Lomb OTC and the work good. Flonase for sinus. Haven't tried a pill that didn't put me to sleep or made me crazy.
Fife, whenever a "Check Engine" light comes on in one of my cars and everything seems normal, that is, start, idle, acelleration, the usual stuff, I just ignore it for a couple of days to see what happens. Half the time "C-E" goes away of it's own accord. I've had the "C-E" light come on when I've changed brands of gasolene.
Go figure.
The last time "C-E" lit up in the Hyundai the guys at the shop couldn't find a thing wrong with the car. They just re-set the thing and I was on my way.

A train store I enjoyed going to on my trips back up north was the "Old And Weary Car Shop" in Tappan NY. Now closed, it was a wonderful place, and run by a great guy named Al Seebach. Sadly, he passed away in April of this year due to COVID-19 and the shop's been closed since.
I don't know what the future holds for the "O&W" shop, I haven't been able to find out anything. I only found out about Al's passing from the Bergen County Model Railroad Club's website, but there's been nothing on the site since.
Flint, During the majority of my time at one AFB in Texas there was only one cook who made fantstic SOS. Unfortunately when he wasn't cooking that morning you could hardly tell it was sos, it looked more like grease and who knows what sitting in the steam table.
It looks like our good weather is coming to an end looks like 100* Fri, 107* Sat, 110* Sun. That's what they are forecasting but the prior hot spell they under estimated the highs hope they aren't doing that again.

Years back my brother-in-law "Big B" took Lady Firestorm, Lady F's mom, and myself to a brunch buffet at a very nice restaurant in Rockland County NY, the "Duck Cedar Inn" if I remember correctly. They had quite a nice spread, and on my third trip to the buffet bar I spotted something that looked familiar. "Aha!" says I, "It's creamed chipped beef, and there's the toast!" It looked like hardly anyone had taken any. Then an evil thought popped into my mind, "Let me see who all the WW2 vets are in here!'
Put some toast on the plate, piled on the creamed chipped beef, and returned to the table in a roundabout way tolding the tray at waist height.
Found 'em all right! Every grey-haired guy in the place turned green when I passed him! But you know what? The stuff tasted pretty darn good!
"Big B" knew what it was, he's not a veteran, but a student of military history. He started snickering as much as I did!

Got up at 5, ate, showered, went to doctor at 10:30, DISCOVERED ON THE WAY THAT MY FAVORITE TRAIN STORE (TRADING POST TRAINS) WAS GONE, encountered crazy new arrangements at hospital for covid protocols for the first time, went to get blood test and new shingles vaccine (OY does it make you sore! ) ate at Bob Evans, home by 4. Just another day o' fun!
