671 lionel set for sale
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 2, 2005 9:20 AM
I have what I believe is an "O" gauge Lionel set. Engine is a 671. I believe its over 50 years old. Can anyone tell me the Appox worth of this set? You can see it and all the cars at:

http://torzewski.tripod.com/lioneltrain/

I would like to sell it.
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,

The CTT forum does not condone for sale ads, try the SVC train board www.svctrains.com

Joe,

Based on David Doyle's "Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains, 1945-1969", your set is Lionel #2111WS, offered in 1946. The set included:

671 Steam turbine with 671W tender ($120/$215)
3459 Lionel Lines operating dump car, aluminum (100/295)
2411Lionel Lines flatcar with pipes (50/80)
2460 Bucyrus Erie crane car, gray body (85/180)
2420 DL&W work caboose (50/115)

Prices are from Greenberg's price guide for 2005, and represent valuations for good/excellent condition. It's impossible to tell from pictures, but I'd estimate your pieces are generally in Very Good condition (few scratches; no dents, rust, or warpage; very clean). Exceptions are the dump car (broken) and flat car (missing pipes - the same car with logs is valued at only 16/28).

My listings do not show what else was included in the set. The RW 110W transformer ($38/$65) was offered from 1948-1954, so it does not appear to be part of the original set.

Keep in mind that the set really is worth just what a buyer is willing to pay for it![:)]
