Good morning from the Valley! Our new yard has been mowed for the first time and it looks nice and green. The woods surrounding the house is getting greener everyday.
Basement rooms are almost done. Should start putting together the frame work for the new layout.
A big thank to the Chief for the Menards coupons. I needed some new parts for the Ohio snow cannon. It was having trouble reaching Roseyville.
Our little rural county in Ohio has become a big time nesting area for Bald Eagles. Last week we saw one just sitting on the ground by a pond trying to out fish a herron.
I have two doctor's appointment tomorrow. Regular check ups. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Have a good day.

Gray and gloomy again today. 60's for a high later on.
I was up a 445 this morning to take the Princess to Philly for work and made it here on the "other side" by 720. I'll be bolting outta here at 430 to pick up the Princess and get her home if I'm early, or drop me off if I'm late, to the Memorial Service tonight. It is on the way home, so it is not out of the way. My Class "A"s are out in the car.
Yes, this will be a long day.....
End of Month wasn't as bad I had imagined, but bad just the same....bad as in BUSY (Yes, we are making money...lol)
OK, off to see what work holds.....Happy MAY!!!

Morning all!
Cloudy and rainy here also (SJ!). We are back to setting rain records here. 70's today due to overcast.
Regards, Roy
Good Morning from beautiful 75°F Southern Ohio,
May 1st, what happened April? I hope this month goes by as fast because I start a month of nightshift next week. Bleh. Only good part of working nights is being a little removed from the dayshift drama.
The layout is coming along with the wiring of the lighted accessories, like the flood lights, water towers and oil gusher. I may start laying out the roadway and parking lots over the weekend. I bought a Casio label maker that will make a ¼” label for the control switches on the control panel. There are several control switches that are labeled from Gilbert AF for Uncouplers that I use for other accessories because they are readily available, cheap and work instead of paying in some cases 10x the price for an original accessory button.
We traded our Toyota Sienna in on a Honda Odyssey and I really like it, more importantly my bride really likes it better. We had the Sienna for two years and there was just some things that drove me nuts when I drove it.
Got to go.
May God bless you and your families
Jim
Hello There,
May already!!!!!!!
Cloudy with drizzle so far today. The guessers said hazy and clearing at 630 this AM. Back to trimming trees if it does.
Spent Monday getting mowers out and mowing.
Yesterday son and I spent a couple hours running a steer in circles in the barn trying to get him to get in the trailer for his trip to the butcher. Got my teeth cleaned and started triming a tree in the yard before the rains came.
From Wickipedia This is the quad we bought for grandson to race
this year. You can find lots of Dirt Drag action where we race by searching BBDR on youtube. you'll mostly see big bick action. We run dirt bike based machines.
You'll find our hillclimb action by searching Beaverdale Hillclimb on you tube. This one is 10 years old but is a pretty good representation of the hill.
Best get to it
Prayers for those in need

40's and 50's with clouds and drizzle here. We are lakefront owners now. A month ago, when we were at our other place, we noticed that the lakefront property went up for sale. My wife and I decided that we needed to buy it to insure that we don't loose the view of the lake from our back yard, should somebody else buy the property and build a garage on the empty side of the lakefront lot. Looks like we now have a two bedroom lakefront cottage 'guest house' now. I'm trying to talk my wife into using it as a train house.
We held a kids train day at the museum last Saturday. Got a couple dozen kids and their parents through. Mostly young ones pre-school to 2nd grade age.
I ran my new MKT NW3 switcher for a while. It seemed to have some difficulty getting traction to reverse a train of 7 cars. Ran forward without any issues, though. Also had my new REA operating merchadise car on the track. The kids enjoyed making it unload the boxes. The motor operated mechisem worked well. Seems to be more reliable than the solonoid mechisem in the old milk jug cars.
About all for now.
Good evening all,
IT'S MAY!!!! My favorite month of the year. The temps are warm, the grass is green and the racers are in Indiana..... Financial matters are cleared up, ids needed to pick up Mini packets for everybody concerned are in my hands, life is good. Work was busy but not overwhelming. Weather nice for a noon walk, but rained so I could not do yard work (not that I wanted to....) and Lucas is home for an overnight back to Terre Haute after spending several days of quality time with his daughter. Indy 11 tied 0-0 despite being a man down for 75 minutes. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Well, it's May day already. UP big boy is set to leave Cheyenne on Saturday for the big doings at Ogden and Promontory. Like to see some pictures of that thing running. They are cutting it pretty fine. Yesterday they still didn't have all the rods on it yet. I think they do now I heard.
Still fighting my pneumonia. Doc gave me a stronger antibiotic and also some probiotics to replace the ones I need. Worse part is the cough I get towards night.
Had a great dinner tonight that I fixed myself. Had ground sirloin covered with onions and mac and cheese topped off with iced tea. Had to do it in self defense after eating too many frozen dinners.

Mornin' boys. Train Season begins today, with trips Thurs-Sun from here on out. Kudos to Team Big Boy. Hopefully I'll have some great news to share next week. Spent some time in the caboose yesterday, mainly giving it an initial scrub-down. Lots to do to make it "servicable". I liken it to prepping and painting the bottom of a 31' yatchett.
Mayor's Prayer Breakfast over [National Day Of Prayer]. 77 and sunny. Back still acting up.
Ray, get well.
Hope none of the gang gets flooding.
Good work Fifey.
Have a good one.

Fife.....how many hats do you wear at the railroad? ???
Speaking of Yatchet....is Deep Creek big enough for it???? I'll bet it's lonely
V8Vega I enjoyed the hillclimb vidio. I was real active in desert Hare and hound racing from around 1965 to 75. We went out every weekend. This was the transation period from 650 Triumps which ruled the desert to european motocross 2 cycle lightweight bikes. Motocross was popular in Europe but was unheard of here. We had Greeves 250cc bikes here but they werent very fast or reliable. I think Bultaco was the 1st fast, good handling lightweight and rapidly Husqavarna, Montessa, CZ, Maco and others. Motocross begain. I had 4 Husqavarnas during this period. It wear as restricted back then as it is now.

Glad you liked. I started dirt dragging in 71 on my 100 Honda. Bought a 125 Elsinore in 74. Still have it. Had a lot of fun over the years. Did motocross, Scrambles, Flat track and Hillclimb. Used to ride the woods and abandoned strip mines when not racing.
You said a mouth full. It ain't what it used to be.
Working on 4 hours sleep......Memorial Service was as to be expected. We had 1 member and the family was there. Went very well. Was in the Color Guard as usual. Lots of tears when my County Assistant Secretary's name came up. She passed in November. Still sad about that.Chief - Hope dat back gets better. Need some train time, supposed to get the roadrunner from it's wintering in Delaware, but there may be transportaion issues, like me getting there and then there is the weather.....rain again all weekend!
Fife, I saw a photo of the I-12 --- is that a round top? I want to ride down there with the bike this year.......
Back to work, man I need another cup o Joe....
Today went to thunder. Thought I could take off Friday so I could rest up. System went to junk for a while and then someone dumped a lot of cases on me after I left Wednesday and I would like to forget today. Did get all the Mini packets for all of us, but not without some drama. Watched Izombie. Why do shows phone it in the last season??? Not as bad as Jane the Virgin but not much better. I hope everyone has a good day.
anjdevil - It is a wagon top, built nearby in Keyser, WV. I'm going to make it a crew cabin, so my guys can stow their gear inside, instead of living out of their vehicles.
Banks - Yatchett too big for Deep Creek, and too much draft. I would trade down for a pretty little daysailer in a heartbeat. Wifey prefers to rent the speed boats at Bill's.
Chief - Thank you, Sir.
Better day today. Got mostly caught up at work. Got van ready to transport people to Mini. Going to bed early tonight. "Window over Terre Haute" appears to be opening up. I hope everyone has a good day.
Morning All!
May the Fourth be with you!! (someone had to... )
Looks to be a crap shoot for weather today. I actually dreamt it snowed last night!
I've been following the 4014 videos/stories. Hat's off to UP for making this happen.
Going to the local train show this morning and hiding with my brother-in-law this afternoon from the influx of estrogen. (Niece's baby shower.)
Hope all is well.
Have a good one and prayers.

72 and cloudy. May rain later. Got a thingy at a church for noon. Then maybe get to prop leg up. Back a lot better.
Long day. Rained the entire race. Cold, wet, miserable. Kissed the bricks (AJ's 4 win brick), got the bling, walked to the vehicle. Made it home, ate food, crashed for 3+ hours. I hope everyone has a good day.
Mornin' boys. Rain & 59 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.
I had a great train show yesterday at the fairgrounds. Sold off my entire collection of N-scale trains, made some money for the railroad, and got to meet with Banks. Picked up two MTH log cars in WESTERN MARYLAND markings (the tie-down chains are a bear to employ). After the show, a couple of buddies stopped by Fifedom to check out the train room.
Wifey and I ate dinner at our favorite English pub, and it was lights-out by 1900 hrs.
Sun and 60s today. Next week, more rain. The grass will be brown in August. Too bad we can't just save some. I did get the grass cut even though the ground is soft as a sponge. No new train news. As for races the Kentucky Derby results was really something.
Rained over night. Sunny and 71 now. More forecasted.
Kentucky Derby is a cuss word around this house. Crooked win.

Sad.
Resting today.
Have a great week ahead.
Good Morning from wet 58°F Southern Ohio,
I was able to get some of the grass cut Friday before the rain. Yesterday was cleaning critter pens and putting together a grill that my bride wanted for Mother’s Day. I was glad she asked for something rather than me guessing. The old grill was shot. I took off the firebox and the cart part was solid, so I recycled the top, kept the cart and will make it into a roll around work table for the garage. My bride made deer burgers on the grill for the grills first use and it was great.
I’m going to wire up a couple of crossing gates and flashers on the layout. It is getting close to where I’ll be setting roadbed.
Watched a little Premiere League. Did nothing else. Did watch Jane the Virgin. Best episode of the season. Still recovering from Saturday. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hello there, Been MIA. Started to post a couple nights and crashed.
Been trimming trees and bushes, mowed and wacked the yard in between.
Found out Saturday that the Drags were rained out while on the way to the Train show in Cumberland. That made the trip more leisurely. Spent about an hour and a half at the show. Most of it chewing the fat with Fife. Spent $5 on a HO water tower I thought was Marx but doesn't match the boxed one I have.
Had lunch on the way home and worked on trees till almost dark. Slowly but surly geeting there
Yesterday was a rainy day and the 1st Hillclimb of the season. Rained most of the day. Turnout was about half of normal. The hill was better than anybody expected 1st round, 2nd round was worse. Son broke one of his bikes, no spark seems like CDI box, so decided to leave early and go to work instead of taking a day off without pay. He took my tahoe and I waited til the end and brought his truck and trailer as he was blocked in til the end.
Spent the rest of the the day being lazy. Those 4014 videos are great.
Best get to the trees
Morning. Beautiful day and 73 degrees. Errands and County Commissioners this evening.
Did not see the Kentucky Derby but a lot of people must be upset.
A lot of cool things happening out on the main lines. Chief's favorite Class 1 (CSX) just unveiled a First Responders engine 911, and a Salute the Troops engine 1776.
Day started off with getting a lot of errands done, but mowing the lawn turned into an exercise in frustration as big mower kept bogging down and finally the blades quit working. had to finish up with 21 inche mower. did get yard trimmed. Long hot day with nothing really to show for it but a lot of tired. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Morning from clear cool 47°F Southern Ohio,
I’m on nightshift this month, bleh. Only good thing is you don’t have the bustle of dayshift.
It was really pretty out today and I did get the rest of the grass cut. There were a few muddy spots and I cut them with the push mower. Got another 586 Wayside Station wired in on the layout but I’ve not figured just where I want the crossing gates to go yet.
Hi guys,
Been crazy around here. Lots of rain and water. Got most of the grass cut I could without needing scuba gear. Man it is wet. No way can I get into the southeast corner.... But most the rest I could get but behind the shed and on the east side.
Had to fix my sisters mowers over the weekend and used my neighbors cargo trailer to bring the mowers here and back. Liked it so much I bought it from him for $150 cash and what he owed me for gravel. So I am in it for about $1238.00 not bad for a $3,500 trailer. My son wants to use it for hauling the dirt bikes around. It has a nice rear ramp door so it is eazy to load bikes and stuff.
Yesterday I got two new tires and a set of bearing buddies, should be good to go for a long time!
Best get.

Voted and saw Avengers: Endgame. Good movie. Lots of action. Most of it made sense. Got sample pics from Mini. Looked like a drowned rat. Weather was nice again today. Back to work tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Evening from clear and beautiful 70°F Southern Ohio,
I got up about 1:45 pm as I had a doctor appointment. My bride said it is about time I see a family doc so this was a first visit. Height 6’, Weight 184, pulse 54, BP 108 /70. He wants copies of all my work medical exams, 42 years worth? And wants to have some blood work done. For 42 years I’ve had annual physicals through work because of the things I do but I guess there are some tests that especially now are not being covered by my work physicals.
I got home and moved about a ton of dirt and concrete that contractors dumped where I’m filling in for a camper pad. No layout work today. It was too pretty to be inside. The extended forecast looks like Friday and Saturday may be good grass cutting days.
Morning all. Just swinging by. Busy at work, home, and life in general. Lots of excitement over the Big Boy's return. Been following on Train's FB page!
Here's a little floor layout action in honor the Big Boy's return.

Hope Roy is storm free.
Kev, good trailer deal.
Happy Hump Day......
Raining when I got in, took the Princess to Philly for work, I'll jump over the Ben Franklin after 5 to fetch her and run up to Softball. She'll drop me off and hopefully I'll get a ride home. IF they have the fields ready, been raining since last night.
A little late to the party, I saw CSX's 911 and Military engines. Looks good, trying to get some fire dept. members to go back to the NS/OAR training on the rescue train in June...
Not much else, working and meetings, training done until next month then another 3 day marathon, a Tuesday night, a Thursday night and an All Day Saturday....
roadrunner has been home since Sunday and it's already rained 2 of those 4 days.....wtf.....
Fife - I have a brand new in the box hardly ever run WM set from Lionel. For some reason, I could not part with it. So, as fate has it, when the layout is complete, I'll run it in your honor. My house FINALLY came in and it needs to be wired for lights, but once it's settled, the flamingos (I have 3) will be install in the front lawn, as I have already parked a Plum Crazy road runner in the driveway....
Kev - nice score!
Prayers for those in need - Phish...did you get something from USPS?
Back to work....
Good Evening from beautiful clear 80°F Southern Ohio,
I worked on a couple of crossing flashers before going to bed this morning and they are layout ready and maybe I’ll get them wired up this week. It has been so nice out I’ve been doing outside stuff instead of working on the layout.
Rich - Yes I did! It came yesterday after I left for work. Thank you. I did not have that AF manual. It was a 1947 copyright, and REALLY nice. THANK YOU! I used it to work on the crossing flashers
Kev - I’m thinking of getting a couple of 42 pound suitcase weights for my JD X330 mower to increase traction and lower the center of gravity, what do you think?
Got to go. May God bless you and your families
Sturgeon-Phish Kev - I’m thinking of getting a couple of 42 pound suitcase weights for my JD X330 mower to increase traction and lower the center of gravity, what do you think?
Another evening of yard work and I get to start all over again on Monday. Wife wants me to sweep out the Encore for her as well. I do not spend any time in the house any more, just to sleep, maybe I should get cot for shed..... Did watch Jane the Virgin. A good episode. Weather was good today. Stormy tomorrow. That is why yard work tonight..... Bought the place over 40 years thinking the pole barn could be an income source....boy was I stupid...... Stuck with 2/3 acre of ground so rough it makes a corn cob look as smooth as a baby's behind..... Ugh Ugh Ugh. I hope everyone has a good day.
anjdevil - I spent a whole winter a few years back lusting after a plum crazy challenger. As for the flamingos, they remained back in Baltimore. Funny thing, now I see lots of cute flamingo merchandise everywhere we go.
78 and sunny. Mow grass and then meetings this afternoon.
Enjoy the day.
Just checking in. Gonna be 70 today and we will pay for it with thunderstorms. The ground is so wet I had to leave part of the backyard uncut yesterday. Never understood the flamingo thing. My wife has a duck statue in the yard and I hate the thing. I just hope it doesn't mate with the one across the street.
Hello there,
quick check in.
Praying for Roy and family.
Doing yardwork and being frustrated by Prudential about retirement funds
Gotta go
Prayers for those in need.
Eveng,
Still crap for weather. Got 1.6" of fresh rain last night in 20 minutes on top of the + 5" from earlier. Washed the drive out in the usual places and was cold and damp most of the day. Going to be a late planting season this year for the farmers here.
Sending it east to you guy out there.
I did manage to re-paint the fenders on the Cargo trailer with some old paint I had around. Looks good. Down to just a couple of things I want to do to the inside and I will be done with it.
Blood draw in the morning for next weeks Dr. Apt.
About it.
Prayers for those in need of them!
Busy day at work. Completed first phase of what will be a continuous project, but for now I am up to snuff on it. Cases keep coming in. Cleaned out Encore to finish off wife's request list.... for now. Watched Izombie. Story starting to make a little more sense....sort of. Practice for Indy GP is tomorrow. Wonder how bad Foyt team will do there. Did get another letter to the diocesan newspaper editor published. Not excommunicated....yet. Found out person who I assisted as soccer coach will not be back this year, leaving me in an uncertain status as to whether I will be wanted or needed this fall. Weather was comfortable today. Turns to junk tomorrow and Saturday will be wet..... Surprise, surprise another wet event at IMS....go figure. I hope everyone has a good day.
Still down with whatever I have. Still on antibiotics. They made an appointment for a Pet scan next Tuesday. Hoping for a good report. I have been staying at home and watching the Big Boy doings in Ogden Utah in preparation for the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad tomorrow with a reinactment at Promontory Summit, Utah with replicas of the original engines. Hope everyone is OK. I read that Roy is having problems. Prayers for all of us who suffer.
Good Morning from 65°F Southern Ohio,
Not sure what the weather will be today. I’m going to get the suitcase weights for the mower, and batteries for the truck. Last few times I used it the truck would start OK but the draw would drop the voltage to about 9 volts and the radio would reset. That was my first indication of something amiss. The truck has two batteries and they should be replaced in pairs. I’d say I have a dead cell in at least one of them.
If it rains I hope to work on the layout, no rain, I’ll cut grass and move more dirt.
Fife - remember the flamingos in the pictures for Sunday Photo fun? I still have the birds and when it comes time for the scenery they will be in there.
Rich - Thanks again.
SP - Prayers for your return to health and getting rid of the bug
Roy - Hope and pray you’re doing OK
Hello there, got the following reply from a text to Roy.
Thanks. All is good here. Last services and interment were yesterday.
TGIF - Gray and Dreary, very humid-----where's SPRING??
Phish - You are very welcome. I thought of you right off and I'm very happy it went to a great home!
Fife - Just when you get out of the Flamingo thing, they are everywhere....
Hope to get the roadrunner out for a bit tonight pre rain. A little cruise for ice cream may be on tap.
Nothing earth shattering, just been busy......
Surprisingly good day at work. Busy. Cool at noon for walk. Foyt team absolutely horrible in qualifying today. Never been this bad before. Could be interesting day Saturday. Blue Bloods had good season ending. I hope everyone has a good day.
got my brush pile burnt yesterday. Plan today is to make more with one of the Ash trees in the front yard.
Watching littlest grandkids this evening. Older granddaughter is at Penn State today at a majorette camp. She's shooting to be the Sapphire on their squad one day. Her brother is fishing.
Forgot to mention that a guy in an old Dakota pickup ended up swamped in son's plowed field last Sunday. He came down through the woods on what's left of a logging road. Pretty much destroyed the truck that appeared to be in nice shape before the escapade.
MartyE.......thanks for the video.
Best get on with the day .
Dennis, I will swap weather with you!
After I got my blood draw we went to my sister's yesterday to find out the bushings I got for her mover wheel won't work because the wheel she has is the wrong one. So left there and went to the daughters and hung out with SIL and his dad while wife and daughter took grandson to get the pipes in his ears removed they put in when he was small that never came out on their own?
Weather was cold but the sun was out.
Today,,
No sun today, 50s and rain,,,,again!!! I did come up with a plan to fix my sisters wheel issue with the parts I have but I will need to make another trip to Plainfield. Damn gas there is $.70 more than here. Up to $3.299 there. Gassed up this morning for $2.599 WTH???
Well crap weather again today so I decided to work on the oldest grand-son's birthday gift. He just turned 9. I pulled his dad's first .177 CAL pellet/BB gun out a 1990 or so Crossman 2100 Classic and worked it over. Added a scope from my old 22LR , cleaned it, ordered a .177 cleaning kit, and decided to throw in a pack of firecrackers just for the fun of it. Can't get much better for a 9 year old than that!
Happy Mother's Day -
A day to honor those still with us and a day to remember those who have passed.
traindaddy1 Happy Mother's Day - A day to honor those still with us and a day to remember those who have passed.
Amen to that, always amased by those who have had their mothers for many, many years. I am 66, my mom has been gone for 61 years. Makes you wonder who you would be, if it was not that way. Be blessed for those who still have mom to thank!
Finally a beautiful day!!!! Actually weather wise the day was awful, but Mattheus Leist was P4 for the Foyt team!!!! Went from 21st to 4th with good pit strategy and some good driving as well. Moved to 16th in points as well. First top 10 and top 5 in Leist's career and best finish for a Foyt car that I have personally witnessed since Ryan Hunter-Reay got a 4th at Mid-Ohio several years ago. Woo-hoo! Race started off in a drizzle and got progressively wetter. We stayed relatively dry with an abundance of clothes and rain gear. Celebrated with a fine supper at Sarah Fisher's 1911 Grill in Speedway. I hope everyone has a good day.
V8Vega Crossman 2100 pellet gun is a good one, fairly easy to pump, 750 FPS.
Crossman 2100 pellet gun is a good one, fairly easy to pump, 750 FPS.
Yes they are Dennis! I think I got this one for my boy back around 1990 or 91 and it still works fine.
Just sited in the BB gun scope for the grand-son. Got it at about a 3" to 4" group at 25 yards on a windy day with my shaky old a$$ so good enough for him to start out with. I wish the trigger pull was not so hard it would shoot better.
Another cool, cloudy and damp day on The North Bluff.
Kids all called their mom so it is a regular day from here out.
Hey all!
Been incognito for a while. We had a family (to be) tragedy. Future SIL's brother - and was to be best man at the wedding in Nov - passed from an aneurysm at 35 a little over a week ago. Too young for that and the kids are devastated. They were all best friends and very close. Picked up a bad cold in the meantime so cutting it short today.
Pass on my Happy Mothers Day salutations.
WOW Roy??? Go figure? Prayers for all, you just never know when you will be called back. Take care of that cold!
Roy, sorry to hear your news. My condolences to you and yours. Very quiet day at home. Older daughter visited with her family. Did get to watch US women defeat South Africa in a friendly 3-0. I hope everybody has a good day.
should be sleeping but wide awake, had a long nap this afternoon.
Had a good Mothers Day. Mrs and I dined at a local pizzeria/Italian restaurant. They were running mom's day specials. Came home and had a long nap. Son and his family were here last evening. He had to work 2nd shift today. After napping Mrs and I got a couple of things at the grocery store and visited Mom. Capped the day off visiting daughter and her crew. Home for a glass of wine and bed.
Best try to sleep.
Off for the week, just wish the weather was going to be better!
A fairly busy weekend. I watched all of the highlights of the 150th Last Spike and UP4014/844 action on Friday. Spent a good chunk of Saturday out shopping with the BIL/SIL. Brought my empties back and almost got a "free" case of beer in return!
Sunday, we took the MIL out for Chinese buffet. It always chaps me when they raise the price a few bucks because of the day.
Roy - I noticed you were of the grid for a bit. So sorry to hear. Prayers for the family.
Good Morning from beautiful 53°F Southern Ohio,
Busy weekend. I did get the weights for the JD mower. They did make a huge difference in the steep parts of the yard with more traction. I now wish I had bought them sooner. Also I removed the batteries from the truck, one was shot and the other would not completely charge and it was less than three years old. It was a total replacement under warranty so I only had to buy one, and now I have two new batteries, it is 6.6 diesel so there are two batteries each with 800 CCA.
Roy – May God have mercy on future SIL’s brother. I’ll add your family and future family to my prayers.
Kev – Those are nice pellet guns. I had one but it broke. Always wanted to get another.
Rich – I used the book again last night!
Mornin' boys. Rainy Days and Mondays pretty much describes the Potomac Highlands. After a very trying week, just gotta veg today. Youngest Princess had her prom Saturday night, and she looked like a china doll in an evening gown. We took my mom crabcakes yesterday, after I got off the train. Got bit by "something" on my right shin, and it took my out of commission Wednesday night. Did get my new Lionel kit-bashed bridge painted, and I just need to fashion some pillars.
Roy - In my thoughts. 35. woof...
Evening folks,
Recovering from this lousy cold/virus or whatever it is. Yesterday was a very bad day, even slept on the sofa for a bit (I rarely do that).
Thanks for the kind thoughts. We appreciate it!
Besides a few tornados [one about 5 miles east of us], wind damage and hail south and east of us, all OK. Just been very busy. Rolesvile had a deluge of rain and no wind. All forecasted for yesterday afternoon but came this AM. Now cooler and fair.
Good but busy day at work. Finished up a project. Weather was cool and damp. Thought about mowing yard, but will wait until Tuesday. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hello there, Another cold rainy day. Bout 2.75 inches since Saturday PM. No tree work.
Did some house stuff and paid some bills then started investigating bathtub plumbing. Need to do some sortn and chuckn then remove a shop light to get to it. Worked on that awhile.
Broke down and called ortho doc. After tree cutting Saturday could barely move right elbow. Been bothering me a couple of months but it's getting bad. Appointment 9AM tomorrow.
Best get to sleep
Mornin' boys. Clearing and 49 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Will attempt to get a hair cut today. Maybe cut the grass. Perhaps help the youngest's boyfriend with the dry-wall that's still not finished...
Did get the new bridge in place, after fashioning some abutments out of styrofoam and NOCH stone wall paper. That makes 10 bridges on the layout, and I still need to finish two more.
Happy Birthday DougM!!!
Warmed up enough to get most the grass cut but the usual wet spots. May never get into the corner by Butch? Went to sister Sledge's this morning and finished up the tractor wheel as good as it will get. Much better but not perfect.
Had ordered a Hoppe's Air Pistol and Air Rifle Maintenance Kit / cleaning kit for that BB gun I am giving the grand-son off E-bay and got an empty package today. Dumb a$$ never sealed the bag so I got an empty bag. This should suck! I also see the place I got it from are now out of stock, so who knows how that will wind up? The order was fulfilled by Amazon so go figure.
My new//not so new, Colorado's 2nd service tomorrow at 8:15 and Dr apt Thursday at 10:30. Blood numbers are about the same so I will get a talking to. Liver numbers could be better. High but they always are. Not through the roof but above the level of a God fearing Christian. So I guess I will have a beer now,,, Also need the scope on both ends this summer yet,,UGH!
At least the weather looks like 70s from here out.
Evening all!
Better this afternoon. Musta been a bad virus as a cold would still be lingering worse than I currently feel.
Happy Birthday DougM
Party sunny and toasty today. Quite enjoyable!
Kev - I always try to use Amazon, excellent return/refund service from my experience.
Semi-productive day at work. Warmer, dryer weather today. Mowed with 21 inch mower tonight. Tired. First day of 500 practice. Just a shakedown day. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good evening from beautiful 57°F Southern Ohio,
I worked on the layout some today. The cows in the 771 Stockyard were going too fast in the corral so I put a rheostat to the vibrator and adjusted it down. Works great. After I got up this afternoon I put track away in the garage loft and trimmed our Schnauzer. My bride made chicken, mashed potatoes and asparagus for supper then off to work.
Doug - Happy Birthday!
Roy - Glad you’re feeling better
Need to go and check on the guys
Passing through. Hope all OK. Later
Another cool day with a stiff breeze, dark clouds, pouring rain. 10 minutes later bright sun not a cloud in the sky. Did that several times today.
Started this earlier while sittn in a crowded auditorium waiting for grandaughters middle school band concert to start. The kids did a nice show.
Ortho Doc says I have tennis elbow. Gave me a shot of cortisone and a scrip for PT. Come back in 4 weeks.
Been shopping for a hand gun. Broke down today and bought a 9mm Ruger EC9s
Thanks again for all your prayers. Link is back in the area and doing well.
Roy.....glad you're feeling better.
Best get to sleep.
I stopped in to tell you we have sunshine two mornings in a row. I'm hoping it will dry up some of this wet lawn. 70s for the day.
Morning. Was chilly but warm now. Work on back garden. Have a good one.
Aloha. Sunny here for the second day in a row! Thanks for the birthday wishes! I had a good day - despite having to work - it was a beautiful day and my daughter and son-in-law surprised me by driving all the way out from the city to join me for dinner out. I didn't make it easier on my wife by showing up at home after work with a pizza I picked up to eat in. But she hustled me out the door and I was pleasantly surprised - got an MTH elevated watchman's hut and some nice books on Welsh trains! MikeC - where did you watch the women's friendly with SA?
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Finally a sunny dayRIP Doris Day and Tim Conway....both great entertainersQuick check while moving from house husband to tree guy.Best goPrayers for those in need
Afternoon/morning folks!
Sunny and mid-80's today. As is typical for me with viruses, after a fairly decent day yesterday, today is a bit of a setback - ugh...
DougM - glad you had a nice Bday yesterday!
Does anything work at all any more? Got an ()^()^&*()%^&*(%&*(%^&*(%&^($ iPhone6s today so I could use my phone to get on the internet and check email during the day. Does the (^(^&*(^&*(^*(_&*()_&* thing work? NOOOOO! I certainly hope someone has a good day.
Good Evening from clear 52°F Southern Ohio,
My contractor friend dropped off some more concrete fill and we unloaded it. A replacement dining room light was delivered today and I put it together and investigated the supply wiring on the old fixture and there were no surprises. I’ll change it out tomorrow. I won a Plasticville Cattle Pen on Ebay to put with the 771 when I start doing the scenery.
Mike - Ah come on, tell us how you really feel about it
Roy - more good days to come
Doug - so did you dine out with pizza too?
Banks - the shot will make the elbow feel better but go easy. The EC9 is a NICE gun. I’ve been looking at them. My carry is an LPCII in 380. It is really nice, but the EC9 is really nice too, and 9mm is relatively cheap to shoot,
Well the lunch break is almost over.
Mornin' boys. Rain & 58 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. A bear got our birdfeeder overnight, but it wasn't torn apart like in past "raids".
Got the call yesterday from nice HR lady that a bunch of us are LAID OFF until end of July. We shall see. I simply consider myself "on holiday".
Then an hour later the Comfort Air guys show up, and diagnos that our HVAC system is kah-put (it's 17 yrs young). Wifey upset with both of these converging happenings. I'm taking it in stride.
Oh, and Chief's Yankees swept the double-header with my O's.
Then to end my day, youngest princess planted a tray of snappy-dragons for Daddy in the garden out front. I could never paint a picture, sing a song, or write a poem, as pretty as simply watching her. I'm blessed.
cnw1995 - Any left? Hope it was a good one.
sirjames - I've been watching a lot of Charlie's videos on youtube lately, and you have a lot of "cameos".
Good morning all,
Doug M, the US Women's match was on network FOX last Sunday.
Mike C.
Aloha. Sunny again! Thanks MikeC - I have to do better research for upcoming games. Jim, that's exactly what we did - come home from dinner and had pizza and cake. Fife, I like your attitude! I made a small cake figuring it would be only 3 of us though miraculously, I stretched it for 8 (just like loaves & fishes!)
Fife, Laz looks for my cameo's. That gives him a reason to watch. lol
Sun and 70s today. Most flowers are planted and growing, veggie plants have not even been bought yet. Too much rain even for the farmers.
more frustration trying to consolidate funds.
Tree work yesterday limited due to bad wing. Back to it after installing a new battery in my Tahoe.
Phish.....cost of ammunition was a factor in choosing weapon. I plan to shoot regularly. I'm suprised by the fact that factory rounds can be had for less than the cost of reloading. Can you recommend a good pocket holster. Loads of them out there and all claim to be the best.
Fife........being off will provide time for your projects and grandkid visits.
Best get toit
fifedogGot the call yesterday from nice HR lady that a bunch of us are LAID OFF until end of July. We shall see. I simply consider myself "on holiday".
Oh NO! The best guy got it...
fifedogThen an hour later the Comfort Air guys show up, and diagnos that our HVAC system is kah-put (it's 17 yrs young). Wifey upset with both of these converging happenings. I'm taking it in stride.
Bummer - I go out to the compressors (we have 2) and pray to the A/C gods every day
fifedogThen to end my day, youngest princess planted a tray of snappy-dragons for Daddy in the garden out front. I could never paint a picture, sing a song, or write a poem, as pretty as simply watching her. I'm blessed
To hit 87 today - finally feeling better
Roy - The sun did rise. I feel good. Getting a great deal on the HVAC.
This area just suffered a devastating loss of 675 jobs at the Verso paper mill, in nearby Luke, MD. The goings-on at a tourist rr pale in comparison.
Banks - Grandkids; amen.
fife...I heard about the loss of the jobs at the paper mill. Paper mills and power plants are closing everywhere.
Buckeye Riveter fife...I heard about the loss of the jobs at the paper mill. Paper mills and power plants are closing everywhere.
Yep,,,sad. Who needs paper when everyone has their face stuck in their phone for everything???
Wild weather today on the North Bluff.
Good evening from beautiful 67°F Southern Ohio,
I went home this morning and hung the light fixture, all went smooth, and in bed by 0830. Got up about 3:30 pm and cut grass around the house, had deer burgers Gabriel made and then off to work.
Fife-Yes, you are blessed indeed
Doug-Pizza, fresh, leftover, hot, cold room temp, it’s all good!
SJ-Flowers out but no veggies, maybe a few tomatoes this weekend
Banks-I like a Fobus for my Ruger GP100, but it is not concealed. For my conceal carry LCPII, I use an ankle holster.
Good night and may God bless you and your families
Finally got warm today. Some rain tonight. Got adult soccer schedule today. Only 5 teams..... Learning to "adjust" to phone...... Foyt team was fast in "No Tow" speeds Wednesday, not much track time today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Warm with 50% chance of thunder bangers today and tonight.
Moving from house to trees again. Got some branches to get out of the yard and then mow. Brush pile needs burnt, the rest is out of the way waiting to be waiting to be cut and split. Probably after the big one close the house is down. Waiting on professionals for that. Still favoring bad wing. PT starting Tuesday.
Phish.....thanks for the input. Is an ankle carry bothersome?
Best move on
Cloudy and will stay that way until Sunday. Storms on tap for tomorrow.
Not much to report today - still taking it easy after the virus.
Very quiet day at work. Weather good. Scored some nice reading at a book sale and B&N. Grandson's team played well but lost 2-1 in overtime to number one seeded team. Tired. I hope everyone has a good day.
Morning folks
Time to wake up! Waiting on possible storms today. Taking it easy.
Just back from Town's summer camp building. Garden Club building raised beds to teach gardening this summer at Town's summer camp. large independent Baptist Church in town came and helped. Really helped. Mostly young couples with kids. Kids played and never misbehaved. Great to see.101 on weather station [in sun right now].Garden to plant. all fixed up and ready [finally]. Tomatoes in raised beds in front of Train Box 5' tall with tomatoes.Later
Glad you're feeling better Roy.
V8, my son was caught in that Freeway closure after the plane crash at March AFB. He was on the way home from Temecula where he works. He lives in Riverside. Had to take all kinds of secondary roads.
I'm still waiting for results from a Pet Scan that I took last Tuesday. I'm hoping that no news is good news.
I have been watching some of the videos posted about the Big Boy steam engine. Lots of stuff on the internet but very little in the media about the ceremony that took place in Ogden, Utah and Promontory Summit on the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental Railroad on May 10th. The Big Boy is due back in Cheyenne this weekend.
Chief, I'll bet you have some pretty tomatoes. I feel a tomato sandwich coming on right now.
A good day. AJ's team and Pippa all made the race. The graduation party was nice. Made it home in time to mow the yard before it got dark and before the rain and the cool weather move in tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good day.
Mornin' boys. Sunny & 61 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. We had a big, black "visitor" overnight. Around 0200 heard the unmistakable sound of our bird feeders being knocked out of the tree, turned on the outside floods, and there it was, all 300 lbs of him/her. Wifey and I watched it mosey around our home for over 30 minutes before it disappeared into the woods (with a Glad bag full of refuse). Wifey will probably want to go to Deep Creek's trading post to get some "commemorative" knick-knacks.
Since I'm "on holiday", I'm getting to attend some local happenings that I normally would'nt be able to. Yesterday, it was the Rte 36 community yard sale. All of the little towns along George's Creek were involved, and from a historian's perspective, it was neat winding my way back into some of these side-streets, into century-old developments. Didn't see anything rail related, but did scoop up 5 packs of C9 bulbs for a buck.
SPMan - ...here's to NO news.
If you want to see UP 4014 and 844, hurry up and turn on Virtual Railfan, and click on their Laramie, WY cam (youtube). They are being steamed up at this hour. You can also watch the 150th celebration (ftom 50 different angles) on youtube.
V8Vega - Wild, Wonderful, West-by-God-Virginia. A short distance south of Cumberland, MD.
Morning. Hot and humid. Run sprinkler in front yard later.
Fifey, a fire cracker will send him running. Don't let him get to comfortable. He will become a problem.
Hello there, Finished gathering limbs in the yard Friday, another brush pile ready to lite.
Mowed grass with the walk behind yesterday before heading to the drags. Grandson did surprisingly well in the new classes with a 3rd and 1st. Not the fastest machine but fast enough to make the others nervous and make mistakes. We will be doing some tuning before the next one.
Sons change in work schedule will allow him to get back into dragging. He is working on putting a machine together and rode a friends last night. After 3 years off he's rusty and went out early.
Pretty lazy today. Left the track about midnight. By the time I got home, showered and a few minutes to unwind it was 130 when my head hit the pillow. 7 AM Mass this morning was a struggle. Lots on the list for today but the slows and watching littlest grandkids ( doing this while they ride bikes in the driveway) put the kabosh to the list.
Fife.....I'd try to put the runs to the bear. He'll become a real PITA!!
Long weekend finally ended. Ballet show was good. Got qualifying done at IMS. Everyone seemed surprised Alonso did not make the show, but also forget in 2017 he had Andretti team support. Since he badmouthed Honda so much in F-1, none of those teams would touch him and the only really good Chevy teams had no interest either. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning from the Valley.....
fife... Several years ago we were traveling in your area and encountered a bear along the side of the rode. It was huge. Much bigger than the bears we had seen in Ontario, NY, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico. Do you have a bear box for your trash?
The boat is in the water. Anybody want to go fishing?
We had a great time in Nashville, TN including a visit to the Tennessee Central Museum. They have at least 11 stainless steel passenger cars for their tour train.
Have a great week.
Morning folks!
Attended BIL's retirement party in Houston Sat night. 42 years in the oil drill pipe inspection business. 38 with one company. Lotsa family and friends came in from all over the US and even some friends from Singapore came for the event. He worked all over the world as a sales rep. One of his cousins (also in the business) presented him with a drill bit. Pretty funny watching him trying to carry it in. Said he considered a piece of drill pipe but it wouldn't fit in his truck.
He gave an interesting perspective. If you are in an airplane 30,000 ft up, that is the depth of many wells and imagine the amount of pipe it takes To reach the ground.
Cloudy again. 70's/80's today. Maybe some rain later.
Fife - 300lbs of 'cuddly'?
Very quiet day. Did make some progress on some projects. Survived. Back feeling better. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Evening from beautiful clear 60°F Southern Ohio,
Another week of nightshift has started. It has been beautiful last couple of days. All the grass is cut a few tomatoes are planted, and worked on the layout some. I found a voltmeter and installed it in the control panel. I already had ammeters for the AF and the 3 rail, and when I was using the 30B, it had voltmeters. Using the 22090 I missed the voltmeters, I’m kind of a geek when it comes to gauges and monitoring equipment parameters. I rigged the one gauge to read from which ever track I wanted to monitor by way of an on off on toggle switch.
This is the kids last week of school and the other grandparents are taking them to Florida on vacation this coming Friday. Man will the house be quiet without the kids and their friends hanging out here, but there may be more food in the refrigerator.
Banks - I really like the ankle holster. I seldom wear shorts, and never go with my shirt untucked. The one I use straps above and below your calf with Velcro. If the weapon is a compact or subcompact you don’t even notice it being worn, and with a straight leg pant it does not pattern. It is very secure yet easily accessed. If you have circulation issues it may not be a good way to go, but that is the only drawback I can think of.
Roy - Glad you-re doing better.
Fife - Like Chief & Banks said, I would not want the bear to feel too welcome.
beautiful warm breezy day here.
Woke up to no water again. Low pressure cut off tripped 4th or 5th time last couple of weeks. Happened again while dishwasher running. Time to deal with it.
Had another follow up with eye doc. Still an occasional flash in a dark room. Pics of retina are unchanged. Told to keep my regular appointment in December unless flashing gets worse.
Stopped on the way home and got new switch and pressure guage. The nipple the switch mounts on was nearly full of rust so back to the hardware for 2 brass nipples and a 90. Was thinking of Roy's debacle as I crossed my fingers and turned the pump on. No leaks. No markings on the fittings or packages so i'm assuming they are not Chinese.
Eyes are getting heavy.
80 [already] and fair. Chores interrupted by a lunch meeting that person insisted on late yesterday. Have a good one.
Mornin' boys. Sunny & 56 in the Potomac Highlands. Need to paint some trim and shutters today (Crabby Apple Red).
No bear last night, even though it was trash day. I don't have a cage, but we don't have a lot of food refuse. Bear obviously acting on learned behavior. Several other neighbors in my development also have been visited regularly. We are keeping bird feeders down for a while.
Banks, easier on the eyes...?
Rainy on and off here. Maybe some storms today.
Just got back from tax assessment protest. They had raised me nearly $60K. Got them to lower it about $50K. An unfair arbitrary process to say the least. Feel sorry for people caught up in it and not understanding how to approach it.
Phish - meters yes! Can't have too many.
Hi there,
WOW more rain again last night. Yard is so wet you can't walk across it. Can't cut the grass, can't do anything. No way could you park a car in the grass? This cold weather won't let it dry. Heat is on in the house and shed. Looks like a lot of holiday picnics will be ruined this year. Will it ever dry up? Never seen anything like this so late in the year. Farmers won't get anything in the ground till mid June at this rate. What the heck?
Still way better than some are getting.
Roy, you are right, they stack the cards against the tax payer. They know most of the working will not take the time to bother with it.
Hello there, Mowed grass after mass til time to go to PT. That went well.
Won a hard to find Mantua box car on the bay for cheap. Made a buy it now offer I expected to be rejected but it was accepted.
Seems like warm weather is here, turned off the farm house furnace, left the town house fire go out and started dehumidifier.
Went and voted in the primary election. Mostly local races. Need to get rid of some tax happy County Commissioners and school board members.
Mrs is on final count down. 9 more days in her final school year. Just left her exit meeting.
Phish....thanks for the input. I wear baggy pants almost exclusively. I'm going with a pocket holster 1st and see how that goes.
Roy.....congas on the assessment success. Best move onPrayers for those in need
Mornin' boys. Woke up to clear skies and 46 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Spent most of yesterday up on a ladder, painting the shutters of Fifedom. My aching feet. Was enjoying my front porch, when FifeMax chased after the neighbor's Aussie; dog drama. I'm still mad at my border collie.
Thought I posted last night. Busy day at work Tuesday. Quiet night at home. Back is feeling better. Soccer league starts tonight, weather permitting. I hope everyone has a good day.
74 and a few clouds. Off to veterans' fund raiser. Then chores.
Aloha. Boy, we sure got some storms overnight, didn't we, Kev? Looks like it is supposed to get to 80 from the current 50. I've believe it when I 'feel' it. I was very delayed on my commute home last night because someone spotted a susipicious package near the tracks in a town about mid-way home. So they stopped the trains at the previous town and my bride was nice enough to drive over and pick me up. I brought us some wine-and-pizza at a local eatery in thanksgiving. Fife, I sure wouldn't like to see a bear nearby like that - I have enough problems with the coyotes.
Another morning of rain. Temp might go to 70 if the clouds clear out. Ground is too wet for digging a garden.
Correct Doug!! Another .8" last night don't even want to guess how much rain we have had in the last month? Good thing is it is 25 degrees warmer than yesterday.
Renewed my Passport yesterday and we are getting one for Sandra this afternoon. Now to get the kids to take us on a trip abroad.
Then a trip to Menards for some garden things if we can ever get into the yard and garden areas? Same problem as SJ is having.
Won our first match of the season 3-2. Did not have to play the entire game as we had subs. Wife and I went to Captain D's afterwards and then got some birthday presents for 2 of the grandsons. Came home and saw the best episode of Jane the Virgin tonight for this season. I hope everyone has a good day.
Aloha. More rain overnight but it did get to 81 downtown. Low 70s and sun today - hurray! I didn't know you need a passport to go to Menards...
Partly sunny and humid. For once no storms for Memorial Day weekend. Should be reasonably pleasant.
Still taking it easy. The party weekend with the sister and BIL did not do me any favors for the recovery from that virus last week. Lack of restful sleep is the issue. We are in a pollen and mold spores storm here due to the very wet spring and winter. Nose/sinuses are a model of Niagara Falls....
Good day at work. Got progress done on an ongoing project. Warm weather for a walk. Picked up 30 inch mower from shop. Watched Izombie. Odd episode. Still not sure how the series will end. Hopefully better than Game of Thrones. I hope everyone has a good day.
Back injections this afternoon seem to be doing fine. I had never had them. Following instruction sheets and resting. I felt a slight pinch for the deadening. Then pressure [I guess when injecting back] a few times. Got up and came home by way of Fire house Food for a couple of hotdogs. So far so good.
Good Morning from beautiful 65°F Southern Ohio,
There is a beautiful sunrise this morning. My bride is on her way to Cincinnati airport to drop the kids off to go to Florida. After that she will spend some time with a college friend who lives in Cincy. So when I get home from work I’ll have a quiet house. Just me and the dogs.
Don - From Buckeye’s post I assume Kay’s Dad passed away; may God have mercy on his soul. You and Kay have taken very good care of him, and now all of you may rest.
quick check in, prayers for all who are hurting and those affected by the storms.
Taking 4 wheeler jug to be bored, going to a "super stock" piston that is OK by the rules.
Busy weekend on tap. Graduation party for a friend tomorrow, Beach Boys tribute concert Sunday, a Memorial service and parade followed by 15 lb of wings I have in the freezer. Got to fit more mowing in somewhere.
Best git.
Sun without more rain till tomorrow. 70s today.
Just checking in. Got plants for the veggie garden but still not planted. I might try today depending if the ground can be turned over.
Hot and humid. Haircut day. Thena town errand I should not have to run.
Yes, Kay's Dad passed. Burial will be mid June as Military cemetery backed up with burials.
Later
Semi busy day at work. Got yard mowed. Set 30 inch mower at highest level and had no difficulties. Does it look as good as regular height? No. Do I care? No. Older daughter and grandkids were here for a visit. Wife took a nasty spill as they were leaving and had to go to dentist to have teeth checked. Teeth look to be ok for now, but she is also covered in bruises from the fall. Weather looks really bad for Sunday. I hope everyone has a good day.
Mornin' boys. Sunny & 60 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Spent the last 2 days in the "free" state, first to requalify to carry, then to work on the yatchett (which I found to be very, very dirty). Going to try and sell it for cheap (under 5K), so here is your chance Doug!
Did get to spend some quality time with great friends in Stewartstown, as well as see my partner at the range. Going to lay low today.
dbaker - Best regards on this passing.
Hot and humid. Farms this afternoon and visit friend who runs bar-b-q restaurant.
Good Afternoon,
Been awhile, as you can guess things have been crazy.
I really appreciate Chief keeping everyone updated, and also the emails, prayers, and comments that everyone has shared. It is really appreciated!
Kay's dad has really gone through a lot this past 6 months or so! He is finally at peace, at that is such a blessing. He was 92 definetly had a full life. His wife is 88 and has some memory issues, but in pretty good health. So far she has handled this all pretty well, but its still early. Kay has really risen to the requirements, seeing to her dad, accomodating her mom's needs, and being the center point for her family. Truly strong. Hopefully will be able to get some relaxation and enjoyment for her soon.
I know there have been many other things going on with everyone, and I hope it is all working out. I havent seen where anyone here has been affected by floods and tornadoes, thankfully. So hope that continues.
Kay has relation arriving from Milwaukee today and as tomorrow is Chris' birthday, I've got to go shopping quick.
So again Thank You all for all the kind thoughts and prayers, it really means a lot.
Regards
Don
Thoughts and prayers are for you and your family, Don. Did yard work today before rain hit. Will have to mow again soon. Finally looks like we may get the "window over Terre Haute" we are looking for Sunday. May get the race in....maybe. Watched Indy 11 play to 0-0 tie tonight. Got CTT today. Looks like a good issue. I hope everyone has a good day.
Evening folks!
Enjoying the the weather and the holiday weekend!
DonB - prayers for the family on Kay's father passing.
MikeC - sorry about your wife's fall and glad she was not seriously injured.
Mornin' boys. Partly sunny and muggy in the Potomac Highlands. Something "muggied" our trash can and suet cage overnight...
In my quest to do nothing yesterday, watched an entertaining Nascar race and the O's win (finally) againt the Rockies. Also been watching Patton 360 on youtube. Hey Rich, we need another layout update...
quick check in after breakfast.
Yesterday I built a couple of flower boxes and spent a few hours helping son replace some fence posts in the pasture before the rains came. It was time to go to the graduation party any way.A good time there.
Not sure what the rest of the day will bring. Going to fill the flower boxes for Mrs. then either cut grass or work on fence if son shows.
Beach boys tonight.
Best move on.
Orlando: High 90's - Sunny
Enjoy the Holiday but take a moment to remember those who served and died for our country.
Hot and humid. May set a record high today. Watering as going to Tybee Island GA. Daughter baby sitting. The following weekend, I baby sit for her and SIL.
See you latger in the week.
Been watching the race on and off,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Way toooo many adds running over it.
DonB, Prayers for your family on the passing of your FIL!
Cool and yet another day of rain.
This tree frog is fat and happy with this wet weather. At least he is enjoying the new deck.
Got the 500 done. No rain. Foyt team got a top ten. Tired. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning all!
Happy Memorial Day! In honor of those that served, are serving, and those that sacrificed.
Good Morning,
Happy Memorial Day, got the flag up, and the sun is even shining. I think this is one of the coldest Memorial Days I can recall. It is only in the 60's, but at least no rain.
Watched Indy yesterday really enjoyed the race. Taped the Charlotte race, watching it this morning.
The "Dry Bar", I had in my train room, got moved to Chris's apartment, so I rearranged some stuff to fill the void. Think it will be fine, just a little less storage room.
Thanks again for the prayers and thoughts, everyone seems to be coping very well.
Took a drive yesterday and it was really awesome as we passed a couple of cemetarys and saw all the flags marking the graves! Then Saturday morning local television was showing various scouting and youth groups placing the flags and saluting each placement as they went thru. What a great teaching moment!!
Hope everyone has a great day, and celebrate the memory of our heroes and their families.
Forgot to comment earlier - Dennis, so sorry about your car, and happy that no one was injured.
Victory Dinner starting soon. Lots of stories from Sunday for a later date. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hi Guys, I hope everyone had a Happy Memorial Day and honored those that have served, are serving and will serve someday. "But most of all the ones that gave the ultimate sacrificed for the rest of us."
I also was okay with the races yesterday but hate the adds run all over them.
Dennis. Glad your okay and sorry about the car,,,at waht age does CA make you take a test every time you need a new license? I think here it is 74 or 76 if you have any tickets or wrecks.
Another day of rain, strong storms and tornados here. Tornados, floods and all kinds of problems over half of the country on a weekend all Americans should be here enjoying and thanking those who have allowed us to have this weekend. A weekend where all of our leaders should all be here to support and up lift those in need not out of the country watching sumo wrestlers. JMHO
Partly sunny and low 90's today. Nice!
Spent the weekend with about 40 friends and neighbors. Had a great time and many adult beverages consumed. Taking it easy today.
Mornin' boys. Showers and 66. Another raid into the "free" state, this time to enjoy a family pool party, that otherwise I would've missed. I'm liking this being off lately. Stopped back down the boatyard and hung the "for sale" sign on the yatchett. Spent a couple hours working on the interior woodwork, the bilge pump wiring, and brought home the cushions to air out and clean.
V8Vega - I think West Marine is having a sale on rubber fenders. Glad you are ok.
Aloha. Spent the holiday weekend moving my daughter and son-in-law into their new apartment half a block from Wrigley Field during a Cubs home game. Successfully dodged tow trucks, ticket-wielding cops and drenching rain storms, as well as the drunken fans and got everything in. I love their old building - a century old three-flat that backs up to the Addison L stop. The train literally stops across from their deck. It is interesting that since it is level with the tracks, you just hear the electric motors spin up - no track noise. Anyhow, it is a hoot doing projects or even hanging pictures in the apartment - plaster walls against plywood backing on bricks. No insulation. Fourteen feet tall ceilings. Weird wiring. Hope you missed the tornadoes, Kev. Dennis, glad you are OK!HBD to your Chris, Don!MikeC, we have barely been able to cut the grass it is so wet out.
Dennis, sorry about your car. Glad you were not hurt.
Good morning all, I got some disturbing news last week. They have found a tumor on my left lung. They are going to do a biopsy on it to check it out. I have had a bad cough for quite a while now and can't seem to shake it. Going to doctor today.
Went to traditional jazz concert Sunday and heard the Night Blooming Jazzmen. My friend Larry who retired from the band was asked to play with them in the absense of the regular drummer. The leader and cornet player is 93. He was in the hospital the night before and we were'nt sure he was coming but he did. He's a real trooper. Another old timer with a walker took a fall on the floor but I think he is OK. He was trying to do a dance step with a walker. I think the average age in the audience was about 80.
Thinking about selling my trains after I get enough strength to pack them up. Probably will sell to one buyer who can take it all if I can.
Have a good week, Ray
Ray, Prayers for your biospy results.
Doug, we were okay here but the old home town Plainfield had plenty of wind damage but nothing like they have in the past. Marseilles is at 10.1" of rain this month and they are calling for 1.8" tonight. On top of 9.5" of rain from last month. A swamp!
Ray - prayers regarding the biopsy
DougM - cool about the daughters apt!
Just back from grocery run. Grilling some steaks tonight!
Robmcc, Charles Ro shows the TIER 4 set as in stock, but I don't see any tracking info yet????
Dennis, My safe driver renewal came from the IL. DMV today for being a good boy the last 4 years. So all I had to do was plug in a pin number provided by them and give them $36.00 on line and I am good to go for 4 more years.
quite a weekend. Graduation party was good. Had dinner with a friend Sunday before heading to the Beach Boys concert. Turned out not a tribute but the real deal. Two of the original members, Brian Wilson and Mike Love, plus the rest band. Good show even though some of the music was to loud drowning the vocals.
Followed the concert with a nightcap and snacks at a local pub. Haven't done that in years.
Yesterday we did mass, two Memorial Day services, a visit with Mom and capped the day with 10lb of wings, a couple lbs of breast tenders and the usual picnic fare.
Fun was had by all.
Today did PT, gave blood, a couple of Mom errands and picked up grandson's jug. Turned out the machinist is the father of one of his teammates. He did the boring gratis. I've got to radius the ports so it doesn't snag a ring and put it back together. Bought a used pipe on the bay. Hope to get a little break in time before Saturday. Don't like to race on a tight engine.
Nasty storm with a tornado warning earlier this evening, nother one going through now, lot's o wind and lighting. Prayers for those dealing with floods and tornadoes.
Fife........the Yatchett gonna bring enough to get that day sailer?????
Ray.....Prayers for a good biopsy. Tough decision on the trains.
Long long long day at work that was much busier than expected. Mowed again taking the height from notch 7 to notch 6 ( lower height ). Result.... much longer mowing time and yard does not look much better. Situation with van is still unclear. Maybe tomorrow recount events of weekend..... I hope everyone has a good day.
V8 Dennis, I saw the Sinatra house tour on Huel Howser tonight. I very close friend of mine did a lot of work restoring the vintage trains on Sinatra's layout. He was working for the late Paul Kirby who owned the Train Stop in San Dimas. Kirby is the one who built the layout for Frank. Of course he had some of his employees working on it too. They had a big write up about the layout in Classic Toy Trains a while back.
Re selling trains, I would have to get someone who will pick them up. I think some of them do that..
Ray I know there is one place in TX that advertises that they buy collections, I think in CTT, I would look for a place closer to you as either way your going to end up paying for them to come get them. Yes trainz will send you boxes to ship them but they then charge you how much it cost. I would contact some of the bigger hobby shops in your area that deal in O gauge trains and see if any of them would be interested. You need if you haven't yet make a inventory of all you have. Personally thou I would keep a couple of sets just encase I wanted to run trains after the trains are gone, Most likely they will not want a layout, but may want the structures.
Morning all. Been busy lately converting my garage into a trai room.
Hope all have a good day, hotter than you know what here
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Cloudy and rainy as usual.
Avoid selling to Trainz if possible as their reputation around here is like a minus five. Buying from them seems about average though. Foot then eye doctors yesterday. With blurry vision all afternoon it was a stay in evening.
Made a trip to Riverside National Cemetary yesterday, purpose was to show visiting relatives where FIL was going to be interned. Was really beneficial, got a lot of details arranged.
Ray, Hope the biopsy came back with a lot of positive results! Sorry to hear your selling off your collection. As you know the resale value is always quite low. But remember all the years of enjoyment they have provided, and they wern't initially purchased as an investment. I don't really have any good ideas that you are not aware of. Milepost38/Arnies only goes about .10 on the dollar. And, Arcadia vendors are primarily wanting to make a huge mark-up. Its a tough issue to untangle for sure.
Dennis, Sorry to hear about the car, hopefully it will be recoverable!
Boy the weather this year has really been tough on so many people, even all the way up to this past week. Hopefully everyone here escapes any significant damage.
Again, I want to thank all for the kind and caring comments regarding my FIL, they really helped a lot!
Off to see if I can pass the Drivers License test today, and see if I can qualify for the federal ID requirements.
Take care all and stay healthy!
Just finished yard work, and cooling off a while before I do a little dry-wall sanding.
Banks - I would trade for a smaller boat w/trailer. Wifey just don't want to pay any more marina fees (which will be going up next couple seasons). She enjoys renting a power boat, or jet skis, for a few hours, instead. No muss. No fuss.
SPMan - if you price them to move, they will. Perhaps invite a local 3-rail club over to "sample your wares"... Collectors are always looking for a bargain. Good luck, especially on the health issue.
A belated Happy Memorial Day...Spent the day doing Fire Dept. Color Guard duties from 0700 to 1100. A BBQ and fellowship with the family and it was quite good.
I must apologize for my absence, since my long breakup with my past GF, I have unexpectedly gotten involved with someone that has indeed taken my heart. We have a mulitiude of similar interests, the least of which our diecast collection is basically the same (same exact cars, to be clear). She also owns and maintains a 1973 Dodge Charger SE 440 Magnum, automatic. And, she is a Yankee fan.
I definetly want to get back to the layout building, and I will....the attic has become a bit warmer than usual and I am that close to finishing Spooky Town. Soon. Oh and yes, she supports the trains as well.......
The roadrunner goes in for major surgery Sunday night as the trunk floor is getting replaced. I should be without that for a week or so. Big show on Saturday, the Philadelphia Hot Wheels Invitational as the car was accepted to be shown.
I'll be checking back soon, work has slacked off and overtime has been nixed. And so it goes.....
Sunny and warm. Even a spot of rain, so all good.
Ray - you might check with your local TCA. the local TCA group here regularly announces train collection sales on the weekly email blast. You can specify that you are looking for someone to make an offer on the entire collection, cash before move out (or move out after check clears), and that the new owner if there is one needs to remove it in one trip so you are not dealing with a piecemeal move out.
Long but mostly quiet day at work. Weather allowed us to play tonight. Lost 3-0. Watched Jane the Virgin. Still not sure how the show will end. Van is DOA. Drove it to game tonight. Smoke again from under the hood, could smell the burning oil this time. Head gasket is $1500+. Van not worth that much. I hope everyone has a good day.
Cooled off a tiny bit. Maybe some showers later. 80's
In coffee mode so far today. Trash day. See how exciting retirement can be!!!
MikeC - too bad about the van.
Thanks guys for the suggestions on selling trains. I'm a little premature on talking about it. It all depends on how my test come out and what my long term prognosis is. It really doesn't matter how the biopsy comes out on the tumor because they already know there are some cancer cells in the surrounding rib bones and even a trace in the liver. I will know a lot more when they turn me over to an oncologist. I had a sister with stage 4 and she lasted 6 years with a good quality of life for most of it. I hope I will get as much as she did. In the mean time, I think I will box up as much as I can and be ready to move it if I have too. Of course, I will leave enough to run on the layout.
Don B., I agree with your thought that I did not buy these trains to make money and I have got much enjoyment out of them. I think I got my money's worth. I am behind on old business on the forum. It sounds like you had some concerns about your family. Whatever it is, I hope it is better now. I will try to call you soon.
Hoping things work out for you Ray!!!
Don, how did the driving test go?
Had a Limited abdominal ultrasound examination this moring to look at my organs,,, Oh Joy. No food or drink after midnight. Was no big deal but I have not had one since 2011 and I have been having some gut issues? I think it is for comparison reasons mostly or to make sure my liver has not turned into a big leather bag.
Had Julie come out and mark the phone lines by the lane so I can install a lane gate coming into our place. Go figure the line is right where I want to place the stop post for the gate!!! Hope to set the main holding post tomorrow and once it is set and I have mounted the gate I will re-think where to put the stop post.
Just got back from parade in Everett Pa. Grandaughter was twirling
storms and rain last 3 days. Farming is way behind. Son is considering not planting corn at all due to high cost of seed and fertilizer, low price to sell and way to late to get a good crop. Hay is at its prime but no weather to make it..
Finished putting quad together today. Ran it a bit to get it broken in a bit. Pipe I bought due here tomorrow per USPS tracking.
Bed soon

Ray, When the results come back on the biopsy check out this web site. You will find forums for almost every variety of cancer that exists. They have a great deal of valuable information from available treatments to oncologists in your area who specialize in your type of cancer. This can be valuable if you should need a second opinion. I have learned a lot from them. both those who have cancer and those that are their caregivers, mostly spouses.

Quiet day at work. Staying home tomorrow. Did some car hunting tonight. May have some results soon. Watched Izombie tonight. Not sure what is going on. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Morning from beautiful 62°F Southern Ohio,
Man time is flying. It’s been almost a week since I posted. I’ve been busy at work and at home.
We spread 128 2cu ft bags of mulch around the house, re-hung the dining room light as bride decided she wanted a chain mount instead of a flush mount and working 12 hour midnights just drains you. Not much done on the layout. I won a Marx light tower that I’m going to add and just running trains to ensure plenty of clearance before I start securing the roadbed.
Time to get ready to go home and a nap.
Mornin' boys. Clearing and 62 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. This will be a day full of honey-doos, as we are prepping Fifedom for Alexis's high school graduation tomorrow. Can y'all believe that? Grandsons will be here this weekend, so Wifey has been baby-proofing the house.
Bear update. Although we haven't had any "visits", neighbors had one in their enclosed back porch Wednesday morning. Wasn't aggressive; more like "can you help me out?" Another neighbor had a different bear (this one with ear tags) at her bird feeders, and another neighbor saw a cub. As long as I don't find one running my trains downstairs, I'm not too bothered.
Sunny and 83 predicted today
Not much to report so far. Doing some work on the boat - always fun, right? Had to pick a couple tools and transmission fluid.
Fife - congrats on Alexis' graduation!
Ray, Hope the biopsy comes back good. Might go to the train meet this Sunday, not sure yet. The family concerns were the passing of my FIL, it was a long and stressful ordeal for him and the family. But at least he is at peace and in a better place.
Kev, I DID pass the test, only missed 1 question, however I did fail the finger print process. They take the finger print and it is used for the obvious id verifications, and also tracking your process through the renewal process. When I got to the testing area, none of the computer stations would recognize my print. Called the technician over and he tried no sucess, then told me I had to do a "hard copy" of the test. The computer finally came up with a windows error on the monitor, go figure. Regarding your lane gate, I would recommend putting one post on each side of the lane. Hope your ultrasound comes back good.
Mike, Good luck with the car search. We have had great results with CarMax.
Jim, Those are awfully long days, you need to slow down.
Fife, Congrats on the graduation! Maybe the neighbors have more interesting trash than you?
Roy, I'm usually first out with the trash, one of my weekly highlights. Always interesting to see what doesn't last at the curb and picked up before trash guys even get here.
Spent a couple days working around the house, preparring for visiting relatives, then some time in the train room making sure all is working. FIL's arrangements are all coming together, and Kay and her Mom are doing great.
So take care all and stay healthy!
Quickie fly by.....
Fife - Conga's on the young one's graduation....just don't invite the bear.
SP Ray - Prayers for a good outcome and I would not rush to dippose of said trains. But, that's just me...
Prepping for the Hot Wheels invitational, need to pack real quick, get gas and head on out. Jenni will be stopping by and we will leave the Hemi car with the Princess's BF. That will solve their transport needs for the weekend.
Re-Registered the Hemi Wagon and the Road Star today, so I'm legal for another year. The roadrunner isn't due until 2020, the 50th anniversay of the 1970 Model Year, although it does turn 50 on 19 August 2019.
Heard there are no more Cal-Stewart meets ?
Fife, Gongrats on the graduation ! Now comes the expensive part, COLLEGE. :-)
