Hi all, We are setting up a new layout at the Texas Transportation Museum in San Antonio, and are coming to a juncture of determining the best course of action on the control scheme. I would love some experienced input as there's only a couple of us setting it up and neither of us are Legacy/TMCC experts. Essentially, we are building a new layout on existing benchwork.
There is a Legacy base, a TMCC remote and base? (its black), theres one or two Powermaster bricks and a z4000.
The layout is 4 separate loops with no turnouts and the interior "yard" trackage will be populated with accessories. The loops are 3x Atlas O and 1x Fastrack and the inner yard is Fastrack, not sure if the turnouts are command capable. As of today, we have run feeders to all four loops and secured the track, and all are running smoothly off conventional power.
We have several Legacy capable locomotives, but expect to run conventional equipment as well. The initial plan was to set up the outer loops for conventional, and the inner yard as legacy. Due to the number of legacy locomotives, I'm wondering if can we use the legacy/tmcc sytems to run the outer loops too and control the railsounds, smoke etc. in addition to using the CAB remotes to control conventional equipment (its a 25' long layout)? Another possibility might be running two trains on a loop since there's enough space. How best to use our equipment?
As a side note, almost all of the stuff we have has been donated and is in various shades of working order.
