Good afternoon,

Was a warmer than of late - 10 with sun this morning when I got up..

Hope things have cleared up for you guys out east. No big plans for today.

Had to take the rear tire from the Ranger to get it re-sealed. Must be leaking around the rim like most those alloy wheels do after time.

Roy, Get better and take it easy.

Better run!

Aloha. Cold here like everywhere else. Hope you are feeling better from your cold, Roy! Working from home today so I could work on some car issues - what i thought was a frozen brake cylinder in the CRV (after sitting all day in -4 temps) and a loose connector for the airbag sensor in the bride's car. Definitely a day for the flannel PJs, SJ!

Good morning all, still down with the flu/bronchitis/cold or whatever it is.  It has been 7 days now and I'm still coughing and taking antibiotics.  Will try to do a follow up with my regualar doctor's office.  My personal doctor is on vacation.  I have a dental appointment Monday for a crown on a recent root canal tooth.  Might not make that.  TTOS meet tomorrow.  I don't think I'll make that either.

Don, glad you got your leak problems fixed.

Good luck to you guys in the East where all the cold weather is.

Ray

Hello there,

Finally read the title today. Chief left out the Scrapple

Cold and windy today. T was 5 when I came in from the barn a bit ago. Mrs' school was closed today so it was mostly a lazy day. I still feel like I'm catching a cold. Been a couple of days now No better no worse.

Finally got around to working on the 259E I got in the fall of '16. I knew when I got it it needed a new pickup assembly which I got from Jeff Kane back then. I had hoped to add a modern smoke unit but that was quickly ruled out as soon as I looked. No Room. While I was trying to figure out how to seperate the motor halves to replace the pickup I found that the drivers are loose on the axels. Any advice on either repair will be appreciated.

Rounded out the day at a viewing for Mother of Mrs' coworker, paying some bills an early dinner out and a vist with Mom.

Off to bed soon

Prayers for those in need

Guten morgen,

The past few days have been terribly busy. Yesterday was my last full Friday in the office here and I was there until 19:30. Today, we move out of our house and into temporary lodging on-base. The wife and I will be busy this weekend making final preparations for the packers/movers who will begin packing our house on Monday. I hope you all save some of that snow for me. We have not had much here in Germany this season.

Don - We  have mixed feelings about returning to the States sooner than expected.  We had many places in Europe we still wanted to visit; however, my parents are aging so it will be good to be closer to them.  Also, the wife's parents will move in with us in VA.  She is an only child and they want to see the grandkids more often.  Our oldest child, 16 y/o girl, is taking it the hardest.  She is a HS junior and expected to be in this school until graduation.  The boys appear to be indifferent about it.

Enjoy your Saturday,

Joe

Gluten free boys.  A balmy 5 in the Potomac Highlands.  As I was waking up, came up with a possible solution for a lift-away bridge for my "high" line, using O27 straights.  Will work on that today.

Demay - I got that t-shirt moving the youngest Princess to WV.  She concentrated only on what she left behind.  Then she came to work on the RR in the canteen car.  She finally met new young folks, and felt a part of something.  Hope it all works out for you on that dot-point.

Morning All! (or in Fife's case "Gluten Free" All!)

Your "German" is coming along nicely, Fife!! Big Smile

Wow, still bitter out there. You know it's cold when your Husky doesn't even want to go outside.

Like half of you here, I'm still trying to shake this cold too. Going to Lysol down the house.

I've been doing a bunch of research lately on building freight cars using styrene. I might attempt something this winter. There's a few good articles on the Other Guys Rag forum on building intermodal well cars. Might be a good first project attempt.

Have a good one and get healthy!!

I was hoping for a warmer day but no it's -1 going to 10. A -3 for tonight. Sigh maybe tomorrow.

Bob why are all the reviews lately MTH? I'm sure others have products they would let you test and write about if you were to ask.

Why have 9volt batteries gone from 25 cents to two fifty?

Good day all!

Since it's Twelfth Night I was going to take down the outside Christmas decorations today but since it's in the low '20s I just took down the wreaths on the flag brackets and unplugged the lights.  Got the space heater in the "Chugger Barn" set on "max,"  I'll let it run for an hour or two and maybe I can get an operating session in today.  Got two inches of snow on Thursday but I'm not complaining, it could have been worse.  Still bloody cold though!

Here's a little something from World War Two appropriate to the situation...

Was a heat wave here today all of 9 above.

Roy,

Guess it is our turn,

Sandra woke up with a good case of the crud. Hacking and coughing all day. I will be next! Just wrote a check for $160 from her last check up so she waits till the new year to get sick and now I got to start all over on this years $800.00 deductible. Go figure!  Bang Head

A guy charged me $29.75 to re-seal a tire yesterday...WTH?? The guy I used to use retired. He used to charge $15.00. Seem like a lot to me? maybe not, Darn if I know?

Guess the new plow brain will have to wait.  Tongue Tied

Guten morgen,

We moved in to the temporary lodging on base yesterday with no problems. It is essentially a two-bedroom hotel room with a kitchen and living room. It is only for 9 more days so we will survive. Although it is Sunday, the wife and I will be busy today making the final preparations at the house. The packers will arrive tomorrow at 0800. The youngest child and I are the only ones awake right now, but I need to make some breakfast and do some laundry.

Fife - Yes, I hope she makes friends and plugs in to some activities soon after our arrival as I know that will  help.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Hello there,

Spent most of yesterday napping and watching the PA farm show on PCN.

Last evening went through Lights on the Lake with daughter & kids. Then we dined on pitza at a local place.

It was -6 when we left for 7AM mass. -7 when we got home. Up to -4 after I chcked the barn and fixed the fire at the other house.

Mrs made us bacon and French Toast for breakfast.

Probably naps and the Farm Show for the rest of the day.

Prayers for those in need

Morning.  6 degrees at house at 7 AM.  RDU reported 4.  Don't think that makes a difference to me.  Cold is cold.

Got a Human Services thingy this afternoon.  Mighty cold to get out.  Suppose to be in the 60's by Friday and weekend.

Roy [and wife] and Dennis, get well.

Joe, she will be OK after a few months in school here.  Us REBS will keep an eye on you in VA.

Schools been out so we will see if they start late tomorrow due to cold.

Stay warm all.

Good morning,

AT long last!!! Yes 22 degrees and heading to freezing today. The melt down starts today. 50s by mid week then back to normal temps by the end of the week.

Chief, I will send you some of our Yankee heat. Wink

Man I did not sleep for crap last night. About 2:00am I turned over in bed tore/pulled my Rotor Cuff again on my right arm and I have been in very bad pain ever since. WTH. OLD AGE??? Well gona to look for some IcyHot and try that. I am going to have to give up and get this worked on I think.

Dennis, The reason they need to clean the rims and re-seal the tire to them is because of the reaction to the sub 0 temps and road salt. It grows a a crud build up on the rims that allows air to get out. So they have to clean all the crud off the seal surface of the wheel and tire and then they use a bead sealer when they put the tire back on. It is far worse on alloy wheels than steel wheels.

Another day with a 59/60 high, cloudy, and rain predicted this afternoon.

Wife is worse today. I am the same as last couple of days. If no better tomorrow will have to see if I can get back into the doc again...

Thanks for the get well thoughts.

Kev - sorry about the cold/flu and the shoulder. I have been unable to sleep through the night the last couple of years. Same for the wife. I do that bad rotation at night a couple of times a year to my neck (2 compressed disks) and pinch the nerve. Incredibly painful.

Banks - give me a shout about the 259 when you have time.

A goodie from your parked on the sofa reporter...

The Moving Image Research Center at Univ of SC has been posting a lot of cool rr videos from the old Fox Movietone News archives (1920's and 30's). Some are cutting room floor clips of discarded stuff from the final as presented in theaters as much more film was shot than needed for the final films.

Many of these are early sound films so unlike many older silent rail fan films with dubbed locomotive sounds you get to hear what the subject locomotives actually sounded like.

Search on Speed Graphic Film and Video.

SJ - quite a bit of NYC!

Good evening all,

Took down the tree today.  Did 7.1 miles in 1:59.32 at a 3.56 MPH average.  I walked the entire time and got slowly faster with each mile.  Can only get better.  Weather is warmer, but could get interesting tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from balmy 34°F Southern Ohio,

It was 37° when I left home and as I drove north to work it got cooler and the roads turned icy.  The plant is pretty well shut down due to the icy on the roadways.

We took down the inside decorations yesterday after Mass.  It comes down so much quicker than going up.  I hope to get to the outside decorations this coming Friday as the temperatures are to be above freezing again.

The kids have a 2 hour delay.  I called home and left instructions for the boys to spread salt on the steep part of the driveway.

Kev – I hope the shoulder gets better

Spank – I’ve not heard of imgur, I too want to move my photos to something so I can post pics again.  Photobucket cost >$100 if I remember was too much for me.

 Got to go

 May God bless

 Jim

Morning.  We are above freezing. Surprise  34 degrees right now.  Climbing.

Hope all you that are sick, get well.  Off to get my second flu shot.  VA paying this time.  Vets can go to Walgreens and get it.  Dr.'s on my Human Service Board recommend two a year.  Regular Ins. will pay for only one.

Have a good one.

Good Morning,

With regret I feel I should pass on some sad news I recently found out.  John Bakker recently passed, as a result of complications from an illness.  I enjoyed his time here and the continuous jokes he shared.  Even though he was Great Britain, he certainly enjoyed his trains.  I lift a pint Beer in his memory.

Happy to see the temps beginning to climb again.  I sure many significant accidents, but haven't heard of any significant disasters.

The Thomas Fire is STILL burning out here, but in remote locations.  We are supposed to get significant rainfall in the next 24-36 hours, as much as 4-5 inches.  Of course the most significant is in the burn areas, so lots and lots of sandbagging going on.  Bad thing about mud slides is they may not move for a week or two after the rainfall as the water penetrates the soil.  Always seems to be something.

All is well on the home front, have dental cleaning today, and spend the remainder here around the house.

So take care all, and stay healthy.

Don

Evening all!

Only 56 today. My only venture out of the house was to carry out the trash this morning.

A little bit better today - finally - and only a little bit. Same for Mrs. we are both suffering from lack of sleep the last 7 days. This looks to linger all this week and beyond.

Watching th Tide vs Dawgs. So far Dawgs holding on...Couple of FG's...

RIP - John B. He was a fun guy and had that classic Brit perspective.

Evening All,

It was a balmy low 30's today. Just watching the College Football Championship while doing a little computing.

Don - I can't believe that fire is still going. Wow! I just finished watching Fire Chasers on Netflix. It documented the 2016 wild fires in California. It looks like they'll have lots of film for next season's episodes (unfortunately).

Spank- Nyquil didn't cut it for me either. That's why I switched to whiskey!! Big Smile

Have a good one.
