Thanks to everyone for all the info!
I have a Lionel 1688 thats not running. I took it apart and found a thin braded silver wire running up the center of the engine that doesn't have a home. Any suggestions ?
I took a look at the pictures in the previous posts but they have been removed. Thanks.
Is the wire connected to anything?
You say the wire is braided, does it have any insulation on it?
Larry
Yes the wire has insulation on it.
Yes the wire has insulation on it. It comes from the lower part of the engine toward the wheels. I can't get a good read on where it originates from.
Trying to insert photo but it doesn't transfer
It sounds like the wire goes to the pickup sliding shoes. If that is the wire, it gets connected to the lug on the side of the 'E' unit.
Thanks. I'll give it a try.
