MTH TIU Fixed channel 2
Posted by First Timer on Sunday, June 25, 2017 6:59 AM

Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding MTH TIU. I am trying to test Fixed Channel 2. When I try to add an MTH engine it gives me NO ENGINES FOUND.  Am i doing something wrong?  Is the TIU fried?

Thanks

Ok, this is the whole picture.  I checked all the fuses (all ok).  Checked all connections (all ok).  Checked both Variable channels (both ok when using aux power only).  When I use Fixed 1, i use a Lionel 180 watt brick plugged into the input side and blk and red wires goes to the track (this works fine, I am even able to add engines).  Now, i want to use Fixed 2.  Removed the 180 brick from Fixed one and moved it Fixed 2.  No red light on the TIU but i hear the engine click (meaning there is power).  When I try to add the engine it says Remote is out of RF range (also when I press the READ button) . Next, I applied power to the Aux and then pressed READ and it found my TIU and AIU.  But when i try to add an engine it says NO ENGINES TO ADD.  Do I need to send this thing for service?  Or is there a fix to this that i can do?   When I use a transformer going to the channel inputs there is no red light, only on Fixed channel 1.

the TIU always needs power either from fixed 1 or preferably from the aux input from a transformer or a AC adapter 12-18 volts this powers the TIU and you will see the red light it should flash one time when first powered up.

I think the main issue is TIU no longer powered when you removed the 180 w brick from fixed one as TIU no longer is powered  thus it cannot function!

so put 180 w brick back to fixed 1 TIU red light will now light up now jumper wires from fixed 1 input to fixed 2 input now try adding engine using the add DCS engine feature.

best way to power TIU is using the aux power input that way TIU has its own power supply and trains get the full 18 volts as well.

hope this helps you.

Thanks CB&Q, even with AUX power, Fixed 2 still is faulty.  It can pick up my TIU and AIU but cant add any engines.  Kept saying NO ENGINES TO ADD.

did you make sure fixed 2 is set to on in using the remotes menu dcs setup? is the tiu red light on when you use the fixed 2 channel when trying to add an engine?

are variable 1&2 turned on? you can also set them to fixed you might want to try this just to see if they are able to add an engine.

I am assuming you have deleted this engine from remote and then tried adding it again using fixed 2?or are you adding an entirely different engine using fixed 2?

if variable 1&2 and fixed 1 allows adding an engine and you have turned fixed 2 on yet it still wont add an engine then if you have a good local repair shop take it to them and have it looked at.

only other option would be to reset both the tiu and the remote and try again to add engine using fixed 2 as the resets will enable fixed 1&2 for DCS watchdog signal and remove all added engines from remote.
