Having read lots of great advice here, now I have a question:
my b&o #62 diesel (recently rescued) was quite sluggish but went forward and reverse. I have cleaned commutator and brushes. When re seating the commutator I can not get gears to turn once the commutator gear connects to the large gear between drive wheels. What is the trick?
Applying power does not help.
Just realized type of motor would help. It is the single reduction "fat wheel".

I solved it! There is a small groove on the bronze bushing the commutator axle goes through, that has to line up with a tiny dimple in the frame hole to the fat gear. I guess not having a wheel puller makes figuring out how to get it back together harder. once I found the dimple, it was just a matter of careful lining up with small light from the gear side and twisting until it Was in the right spot.
