Anyone know if the #2026, either early or late, had red jewels in the markers?  Thanks, Steve

My repair manual says Green on both versions but that does not mean it could not of happened at the factory but I would be more inclined to think some one had them and put them in as didn't have the green to replace the missing green one(s)

I've had 3 sets over the years, the first being an original in 1948.  All had green markers.

"Thanks for the feed-back on my red jewel issue.  Today I am servicing the engine and discovered when I separated the motor from the body that the guy running the service station who serviced the engine wrote the date it was serviced on the inside front top of the boiler.  The date was penciled 3/4/54 followed by L.C.!  Apparently he thought the engine looked better with red jewels than green.  Anyway I replaced them with green.  Thanks".

Swarovski makes 2mm crystals which are a perfect replacement for any missing Lionel jewels.  The green is a bit lighter than the original Lionel but they reflect light better.  You can find them at craft stores, I got mine at Michaels, a couple of bucks for a pack of a dozen or more.

Thank you for the tip, I am missing jewel on another locomotive.  My 2026 has green jewels.

You're welcome Mark!  I happened to spot them by accident at a Michaels when I was accompanying Lady Firestorm there on one of her "yarn raids," she's a demon knitter, don't ya know?  I always wander the aisles looking for something I might be able to use for the layout or the trains.  Hey, you never know, do you?

I've used the Swarovski's to replace missing crystals on both Lionel and Williams engines.  As I've said, the green is a lighter shade than the originals but I pop out any remaining old ones so they all match.  They DO look good.

Our 1948 2026 has green jewels.

Not the best pulling power but it smokes like a chimney!!
