I have a question about Lionel's new railsounds boxcars. My Flyer layout is old school, and I have no interest in TCM or Legacy or any of the new electronic control systems. It's AC all the way. But I am very interested in the diesel sounds boxcar ever since having seen it displayed on another's layout. I have read that all you need to run it is a transformer capable of whistle and bell control. So what is the minimum technology I would have to invest in just to run that one car?
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

By the way, TMCC and Legacy are "AC all the way" too.

Funny you should mention TCM, if only by accident. I just watched the 1949 movie "Holiday Affair" on TCM, starring Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, and postwar F3s and Madison cars.

get 2 lionel Railsound buttons from your local train store or Ebay. the instruction sheet for wiring the cars and/or the buttons will show you how do connect the buttons to the track to get the sounds of the bell and the whistle/horn to work.
