Does anyone have a circuit diagram to replace the battery in a post war engine?

Which engine are you putting the battery in? On F3's, its positive side in first, negative on the bottom.

There was a device reviewed in OGR a long time ago(run 193/4/5) that was sold to do just this. It was in the shape of a D cell, and provided 1.5 volts to the horn.

Personally, I would just a D cell and not worry about anything like that. Dollar store D cells work just fine, and sell 2/$1. Just be sure to take them out when storing, but, other than that, they are a whole lot less expensive, easier to install, and work every bit as well. They also weigh enough that they improve the traction of the engine(in my personal experience), compared to a considerably lighter electronic circuit.
