1960's American Flyer only goes forward

I just got my uncles 1960's american flyer prestone car care express 4-4-2 train set and I was wondering if it was able to go in reverse because I've seen an american flyer switching video. If someone with more knowledge of AF please help I'm new to S gauge and AF! By the way did that model come with smoke and headlight?

Many of Flyer post-60 sets contained bottom of the line locomotives that did not contain lights, smoke units, chuffers, or reverse units.  Usually these can be identified by the fact that you will only have two wires coming out of the tender.  The number series was 21160 through 21165.  The Prestone set contained on of these locomotives.

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain!  On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!
