A question---is there no way of removing the armature  from these engines without having to pull---I'm guessing---the middle wheel?----Also--can you buy those wheels if you need to replace them on these engines ----Steven C. Douglas

Yes, the middle wheel and the back wheel.

It is totally doable with the right tools, but only necessary if you have confirmed a failure of the armature - otherwise there is no reason to remove it.

The wheels are available, but do not have to be replaced if the job is done right.

Thanks---I thought as much---never had one I had to tear apart , most of the things I work on are  Standard Gauge and the earlyer pre war 0. I've got a staking press, which makes things work a lot better---I doubt very much I'd be able to get them off and use them again---I've have very little luck with that in the past and I was using new wheels---they don't seem to go back on as tight as they should.-----Thanks again.
