Brent, I should of been clearer. I am thinking of using the rods at the lower ends of the inclines and at the raised level I was thinking Flexwall.

Ah - ok... I personally still wouldn't do it that way. On the areas where I need to transition from wall to terrain I am planning to build a 'frame' in front of the wall to drape plaster cloth from (that way when I remove the flexwalls I don't destroy them). If I hadn't spent 2 hours building the bridge last night I would have been able to post pics of what I am describing. ALL of my portals, walls, and wings are 'attached' to framing behind them using double-faced duct tape. The only places I have had to use something more was in spots where the curves needed a bit more bite to hold the wall in place, and that was done with one drywall screw that I will paint and scenic over.

BUT as we all know - there is more than one way to skin a cat! Surprise

AF Ray. they have set the delivery date for the new Grandson. He will be brought into the world on 7-10-13 by C-section that is because Lexi was breach baby and she had to be a C-section birth, so I guess this one needs to be C-section because of that. Smile Big Smile

They are calling for rain again so against my better judgment I cut the swamps on the east end. I had to use the small  Huskey 48" mower on the southeast section because it was too wet to go in with the JD 3203 with the 72" deck. What a mess, took 1/2 hour to clean the bottom of the deck when I got done. Bang Head

Nice work Brent. I like the ceiling tile idea. They would work well. I am still kicking ideas around for the layout. I am considering building some of my retaining wall out of dowel rods of different sizes. What do you think? I can have some grass growing out of the side of it and other stuff too.

Kev - as Fife, others, and myself have said - it is a work in progress... don't be afraid to rip something out and start over. Dowel rods would work for dock areas (warfs and such), but I don't think they would make good retaining walls... if you have a bandsaw or table saw try ripping some dimensional lumber down to 1/4x1/4 (think RR ties). Many hobby shops and Michaels sell 'project' wood of various dimensions as well. I bought some bass wood from a local hobby shop to build a couple bridges - you can see one in the pictures of the viaduct.

What I like about the ceiling tiles is I can use the scrap for building hills!

We have a sunny 71, going into the 80s today.

Skin doctor appointment this morning. Once these doctors get you coming they don't let go. One of the homes destroyed by those twisters belonged to a family that had only recently moved here from Kansas, figures huh. Granny's Red Wings lost to Chicago last night in a tough game that went into overtime. She is still happy that they had a good run.

Good morning. It's 74° with 95% humidity. The high will be 85°.

No plans for today though I'm certain something will come up. It almost always does. Checked the tracking info on my Varney F3B. Best I can determine it's somewhere between Forest Park, Illinois and Shreveport, Louisiana, probably in a mail truck that has a flat tire and no jack. Should be here June 1st. Got a bunch of movies that need watching so I can delete them from the DVR. Better get to it.

Morning guys, !/2 day of freedom left. Wife reminded me to shut off her alarm clock before she left for her last day.  Laugh  Sunny mid 70s already and a bit windy. Good weather to dry things up some.
I was hoping to do some weed killing this morning but too much wind at the moment. I have the Gator all set up with the new broadcast sprayer tank set up, just need to do something with it.
Nice work Brent. I like the ceiling tile idea. They would work well. I am still kicking ideas around for the layout. I am considering building some of my retaining wall out of dowel rods of different sizes. What do you think? I can have some grass growing out of the side of it and other stuff too.
Good video Doug, I guess the old O gauge layout was not up to date enough to keep it. It would have been nice to have the old and the new. Tongue Tied
Brutus, good to hear things are getting better with all the crud your family has been putting up with.
Humm???????? Chief with the Ticks and Fife with the Ants???????? Where was the Drango built? Hmm  Hope they are not FIRE ANTS! Surprise
Jeffery, those are all good movies you watched yesterday. Yes

Jack, I had to upgrade to IE8 the best you can do with XP and I also installed Google Chrome. I was getting to many security warnings with IE7.

Later.

Here are some shots of the broadcast set up. They said installs in 5 Min. And it did to the tank, but it took me 2 hours to build a frame work to hold it in place in the gator. Bang Head It has an 11 foot pattern at the height I have it, so now I can broadcast and spot spray. Yes

Morning all.  Pretty day.  High 80's.  Mow grass and work garden.  No rain until Monday or Tuesday.  Probably go to the lake house today/tonight.  Mow there.  Striped bass season [4 each any size] starts Sat.

Removed over 26 ticks over an hour's time from me and clothing.  Some tiny ones but mostly regular ones.  Friend Fred had some new repellant.  Did not work.  Back to the Deep Woods OFF.

Prayers for those who have been hit by storms and for those in fresh storm paths.

Later

PS:  Charlie Brown, Soundstop is great and cheaper than Homasote.

Brent - Thanks for the pics. It looks great. It looks like you are using the same material I'am for sound deadening (Homasote440).

Hot and humid here. Worked on a few projects but no train time.

Jack is having is computer upgraded so he is forced to go low-tech and use his smart phone...
Well that answers that .... my bad.

RJ - No on the Homasote. Homasote and Soundstop come in 4x8 sheets (like plywood). I am using 1/2 inch 2x4 accoustic ceiling tiles. They are MUCH easier to cut (just use a good sharp utility blade vs using a circular saw [and since I almost cut my leg off 4 years ago with my circular saw I think I'll stick with the utility blade]) AND a LOT easier to carry.
Wish I would have found those. Was lucky to find the Homasote. I swear we live on an island in this area. Not sure which I like better. Utility vs. circular saw. I stabbed my leg a few years back with a utility Knife. Three stitches in and four on the outside.

Hello all

Not much done today. Did move a piece of furniture out of storage and that required moving 8 boxes of books on top of itSurprise

Just helped a friend apply on line for a dishwasher job, including a 12 page questionaire.Indifferent This is one case where the internet has made things less efficient I thinkBang Head

Jack - I have several Hallicrafters SW radios. They have become a favorite of mine. Been on a site asking about the pilot light issue. It's interesting to post on a different site. Lets just say it's a little different than this one. But I've got some info I can use.

Jeffrey - like the living setup. Hope to get a trailer when I'm out on my own again. Want to own the walls I live in next time.

Tomorrow I have a couple of appointments and maybe get around to getting the speedo cable installed.

Sunny and low 80's today.  Looks like we might get some thunderstorms in the wee dark hours tonight.

Neat video on the Museum of Science and Industry layout in Chicago.  That has always been one of my favorite museums.  I do miss the O gage layout, though.

I get to play with the treadmill at the hospital tomorrow morning.  I wonder what will come off of the menu when the results come back.

About all for now.

Thanks guys - we're all doing better, think it was just something we ate.  Back to work today to kick in on SS for Chief Thumbs Up  Char and Kev went to see the Cards beat the Royals tonight - they had box seats with food and all the works.  Apparently they handed my boy a "beer glass" and he was really excited, but Char said NO Laugh  Daughter was reading and no TV on to tell me the time, so I missed the TARDIS - sorry SJ.  I'll catch up tomorrow night.  We have haircuts after work tomorrow and then going to my Mom's house for dinner on Friday, so lots of plans.  I have to work 20 hours of mandatory OT in June, but I think I'll skip this coming weekend.  I could get in 8 hours though....  I'm thinking about it.  Monday I have a briefing with our director, AD, my manager, and someone else (I forget).  I'm not sure exactly what they want - guess I'll have to figure that out in the next two days.  TTFN!

Oh, and a CSX train blew up nearby.

Meant to TXT you yesterday to see if you were called into action? Looked like one heck of a mess. Are they still blaming the dump truck driver?

----------------
Got down to the trainroom tonight... Thumbs Up

Kev - I took this shot for you and RJ. This shows how many times I reworked the benchwork and track plan before I finally settled on where I am now!

Had to build this little pad to support the abutement and the scenery. The plaster cloth will tamper down from here.

Built this little dandy tonight... just 2 hours. Used some 1/2 inch PVC sheet and 2 flexible girders from Scenery Express. The length fell right on the edges, which was 100% pure luck. Now all it needs is some flat black spray paint and it will be done.

Still need to build the 'pad' to behind the left abutement...

Did a whole bunch of nothing today. Well that's not quite true. I went down and put my fathers boat back in the boathouse. Not a big thing. It's just a little sixteen foot V-bottom Trimcraft. My nieces husband had pulled it out so he could put his boat in there temporally. There's room for both but he didn't my fathers old boat bumping against his clean shiny boat. He pulled his out today. You'd think he could have put the other one back in. Nope. I finally got tired of hearing my father bellyache about it so I went down and it off the concrete lake wall and used the mooring rope to pull in into the boathouse then tied it up. This evening my father and I went to his lady friends place and cooked dinner then the three of us had a very good meal. At one point I picked up her walking stick and was inspecting it very closely. It has a rose pedal pattern on it. She asked me what I was looking for and with a very straight face I said 'The volume control'. That landed both her and my father. She went and got her other cane. It has a butterfly print pattern on it and is even louder.

Other than that much of what I did today was watch movies. 'Operation Pacific', 'Air Force', 'Run Silent, Run Deep', 'Up Periscope (1959-James Garner)', 'Dive Bomber'.

Well that's pretty much it. Time to call it a day. See y'all tomorrow.

Hi guys.......my pc is in for some horsepower upgrades so I am stuck using my smart phone.  My car is at the dealership for a few things before the extended warranty expires in June.  Had my dead access keypad replaced......due to procrastination, that to do remained on my "to do" list the past year!  The wifey and I are awaiting the severe storms Charlie and SJ got......then the temps will be in the 90s through the weekend.  FIFE.......that train fiasco got quite the coverage up my way!  Gotta run.  Hope I don't get any storm damage and that there are no air conditioning snafus starting tomorrow.   JACK.

Good afternoon all,

Kind of warm here today probably around 90 this afternoon.  Went shopping this morning and picked up some cooler clothes.

Just when I was starting to get used to the great wall of China errected behind my house by my neighbor back there which he conned me into paying half for, he put up this gigantic tool shed right behind the wall and only a foot or so from the fence.  Kind of looks like an eye sore overlooking my pool.  I can't say anything because my shed on the other side of the yard is pretty close to the fence too.  It is a well built shed and painted nice, it is just rather large.  Hope he just stores stuff in it and does not make a shop where he hangs out right next to my pool.  I think I will plant the largest thing I can find on my side of the fence to try and tone down this thing.

Hope you guys in the flood areas are still afloat.  Too bad we can't take some of that rain off your hands.

good night all,

Ray
