Mornin' boys. Sunny & 37 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Tired of stayin' frosty...I want balmy Paradise.

Youngest Princess is "itchy" this morning from her sutures.  PT coming to house at 0930.

submmbob - I think we have a spectrum analyzer in one of our nightstands...Dunce

Demay - Be sure to let us know when you are attending YORK in advance, so that we can bathe first. Smile, Wink & Grin

Bo - Check your swing clearance at that good looking rock outcropping.  I use a scale SD40-2, and yet I still have problems with scale steamers on some of my tight spots.  Thanks for sharing.

Good morning everyone.

Gut and throat hurt some today. Hopefully they will clear up before the day is out. Plan on doing more body work on the P-38J.

Hudson#685
Jake: Forget about working on the P-38. I would be working on Danette!

By the way, she doesn't seem like her normal self. She normally has more energy than she does right now. I don't know if it's just that's she's still tired from the trip, or if the thought of us being seniors in high school close to the end of another year (man, is it that time already?) is beginning to sink in, and it's hitting her hard. Sad

I know that it hit me hard. More than I care to admit. Embarrassed

Evenin' All.

Imaginarium Table and track are finished and tied down in the p/u for delivery tomorrow morning. Hope my "kid proofing" holds up to the munchkin mob that visits the museum. Smile, Wink & Grin

Bo, Glad to see you dropped by. Layout is looking great. Thumbs Up

Fife & Mike, Continued prayers for your girls.

Here's a link for  your viewing pleasure, after watching the first one he has at least four more. Talk about a big layout, and it's not a club ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNo5F6vlVuY

Bob, If my Plymouth smoke ever dies you'll be my go to tech for repair info.

As Easter is just around the corner I wonder what the chance would ever be for a remake of this set.

Going up for auction at one of the east coast auction houses. Be interesting to see what it goes for, this is the first one I've ever seen but have heard of a few.

Time to get ready for bed, nite all.

Ryan - The orignal TO-92 package voltage regulator can't take the heat put out by the smoke unit. I replaced it w/ a comparable unit once, but ended up w/ the same trouble after the unit has run for a bit. Using the T0-220 package w/ the extensions seems to help w/ that.

Ryan, I will post a picture of Bob's smoke unit Upgrade/ fix tomorrow. It works perfect.

Bo, I may need to give you a call when I get the $$$ to start on the landscape. Thanks!

Hello all

The MIT hoard continues to prepare, adjust, and run Allen Variance tests.

Fife, John - I had heard of that show but never seen it (I don't watch much TV). I just watched a couple of clips on youtube and, oh yeah, that's pretty much it. I got a special laugh out of the one guy describing an exciting evening as repartitioning his hard drive for linux. That would be my bossLaugh

BMW - Break's My Wallet

Bo - have fun w/ the re-enactment. I've never been to the re-enactment of the Battle of Picacho Peak here, but have always wanted to go. I've have been to the other site near Dragoon, AZ where a group of Rebel soldiers were attacked by Apaches. Five soldiers were killed and the graves are still there. Yes Chief, it's true, Tucson and southern AZ were under Rebel control for 6 months. That ended after the Picacho Peak battle. I would like to find an Enfield, 2-band replica some day. Apparently the 2-bands were also used by the Navy.

SPRay - hope things work out for your diesel consist

Ryan - The orignal TO-92 package voltage regulator can't take the heat put out by the smoke unit. I replaced it w/ a comparable unit once, but ended up w/ the same trouble after the unit has run for a bit. Using the T0-220 package w/ the extensions seems to help w/ that.

Jeffrey - that VW might actually be able to get that trailer moving. They were actually rated @ 1 ton since 1963 and had some reduction boxes at the axle that really stepped the gearing down. I once moved a 1/2 ton of dirt inside my 65. We used to use my buddy's 63 at the shop to tow a two axle car trailer w/ another VW on itSurprise However you would not get that rig moving very fast and god help you if you stepped on the brakes too quickly. The Dodge is a much better choiceSmile, Wink & Grin

The the 1950's Jewel 4-tube has been reduced to it's component parts. Don't shed a tear for it. It was a fairly crappy radio when it was new. I got it for $5 off the bay. The case was warped and cracked so I eventually ditched it and tried to make a breadboard radio out of it. It was one of those projects where things just seemed to get worse each time I messed w/ it. Well, now I have a bunch of nice parts that can be used to help other radios live on.

Talked to the guy who brought up the spectrum analyzer. He was happy to pass it on to me for free, but I offered him a couple of storage boxes that would fit his wife's Jeep that I never installed in mine. A good trade I think, and one less thing I have to trip over in my storage unit.

Hopefully I will get a chance to align the S-38C tonight.

All this trading recently has got me thinking. My local electronics shop which deals in surplus as well has a 1960's Hallicrafters S-120 on the shelf. Not needing to spend more money on yet another radio, it occured to me that I might offer to trade a couple of items I want to get rid of. Both items are bigger than I want to ship to sell them online. With a two for one trade they might just go for it.

Thanks guys, good to be back!  The rock facings still need to be colored, weathered and landscaped.  I've got some trees to plant on them as well.  Kev, I'll take a picture of my 1615 before I leave so I can post it on SPF upon my return Sunday evening.  I'll have to dig it out as it has not been on the rails for sometime (years)!

Kev, the rock facings along the cut are not to tough.  I made a few castings using Woodland Scenic molds, broke them up a bit, glued them in place, and then filled in between the castings with plaster.  I colored the plaster I used to make the rock facings a light gray so that later there will be no bright white plaster showing through.  I then used a putty knife and a regular kitchen knife to carve things up a bit.  As the plaster hardens I use a small chisel to further carve and rough up the rock surface.  You really don't have to use the rock molds.  You can just carve the plaster, just work a small area at a time as the plaster sets pretty quickly.  You really can't mess it up.  Just keep adding a little more plaster until you get it the way you want it.

I've got to let things dry a bit, then I'll show another photo after I've done some coloring and weathering.

Ray, I participated in the 140th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg back in 2003.  It was a lot of fun. There were perhaps 14,000 re-enactors.  This year is the 150th Anniversary.  I do not plan on participating, but it will be a huge event.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were 30,000 to 40,000 re-enactors involved, perhaps more.

Bo  Smile

It's gonna be 50 tonight with a possible 50% chance of rain. I got more stuff off the layout today and the phone didn't ring ONCE! Bad thing is I haven't gotten off the extension yet. There's still the east side on the main part of the layout and there's a bunch of stuff under the layout. I also managed to twist my left knee a bit and mow it's aching. The consist of four FP7's is doing so well I'm thinking about moving one of the other two consists back to the display rack. But which one? The F unit Frankenlocos or the GP7's and the GP35 Frankenloco? They all run great but each consist not being used takes up a siding or spur where I could store something else.

Well look at the time. I need to wrap this up and call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Brent: It is a fuel tank vent leak. First check that the fuel cap is tight and it seals. If the cap is good, it needs a valve or one of the lines repaired. Hope that it helps.

John

GREAT! Hopefully it is just a $10 fuel filler cap... if not this will be the LAST BMW I owe. These odd ball high dollar repairs are crazy. Bang Head

I will have start packing pretty soon as I'm travelling to Arkansas later this week to reenact in the Battle of Elk Horn Tavern (Pea Ridge).  This will probably be my last year reenacting.  The average age of a Civil War soldier was 25/26 and I am well beyond that.  Sorry Chief, I would like to report to you that we won that one, but despite the fact that we out numbered the Yankees, we got "outgeneraled"!  Tongue Tied  It's true, it sometimes happened!  The outcome of this battle pretty much saved Missouri for the Union.

Bo thanks for the layout progress photos.  Did not know or forgot that you are/were a Civil War reenactor.  I don't recall reading about Pea Ridge but if it's in Shelby Foote's trilogy (Three volumn narative) history of the Civil War then I must have read about it.  My only contact with the reenactors (from both sides) was in Gettysburg a few years ago about the time of the anniversary of the battle July 1st, 2nd and 3rd 1863.  We were there in the late 90's.  If I were younger, I would have enjoyed doing that myself.  We visited the encampments of both sides but spent a little more time with the Rebs.  Got to shoulder one of their muzzle loading rifles and feel the weight of it.  Saw a Rebel Civil War band give a concert in the local High School that same week using period instruments.  Whole thing was a memorable experience.

Submmbob, I finally decided what to do with my MTH E6 diesels.  I shipped the whole shebang, lock stock and barrel back to MTH in Maryland today for estimate and diagnosis after talking to a tech from there.  This is one of my favorite engine consist.  I would not spend as much on any other engine I have.

V8 Dennis, sounds like they need to add another train on that route if it takes 10 months reservation but Amtrak is a sore subject with some members of congress.  They would like to get rid of all the trains.  Then we could all ride the big grey dog.

later,

Ray

Ryan,

The broken one is a swell looking guy. To Him trash is better than cash. Kind of a spin on a old tune from Steve Miller. Smile Our George "the cat" is in the house because it is colder than the hubs of He?? here today and for the next few days. I have sent all of the Robbins to SJ's place and told them he is the one who wanted March. Kind of hard to get a worm from frozen ground.

Bo, Good to see you back. Wink I wish I knew how to do the things you are doing to your layout. It looks great. Heck I am afraid to start because I am afraid I will screw up, not to mention broke, Stick out tongue

Yep, The 1615 is a cool little switcher. I will post some pictures of it and the under construction addition on SPF. Oh yeah, have a good time on your trip. Sounds like fun.

As some would say,,, y'all have a good night. Spit out those GRITS and speak English.  Laugh

Evening all,

Beautiful in Southern Ohio.  Sunny but real windy.  Kids have homework done and playing with the neighborhood kids.

Bride is in Fla. to drive her mom home.  Her mom is saying this may be the last year in Fla.  She's is a healthy 84 but who knows.

Railhead - Great looking mountains

Jim - Congrats on the 200K; I hoping the Avalon get there too, currently at 163K

Taking Wednesday off to drive the twins class to the state capitol, should be fun.

Good night and may God bless

Ohayō,

Whenever I’m on leave from work I always become more envious of the retired guys.  I enjoy waking up when I want to (or when the youngest wants to) and not having to use the alarm clock.  It is sunny and will probably be as warm as it was yesterday, with the high somewhere in the high-60s or low-70s.

Laz – We play catch to warm up and then we do pitching practice.  Next, I hit him balls for fielding/fly ball practice and we end with me pitching to him for batting practice.  Yesterday, we also worked on bunting.  No matter what we do, we always have fun.  We did all sorts of baseball variations growing up in the 80s.

Happy Birthday to Granny.  I hope her back feels better.

Bo – Your SPF photos are always great to see.  You are doing amazing things with your layout.  Don’t worry about keeping up with all the Pot’s posts.  I know I felt overwhelmed my first few months too, but now I’ve been on the Pot for almost three years.  I can’t wait until I make it to York one day and actually meet some of these characters in person.

Sayonara,

Joe

Heres a picture of the "Broken One"  He was a stray.   really nice guy, good looking cat, but way off....

He eats hot wings, plays in the snow, loves being out in the rain he has NO sense of ballence , I don't even think he understands the concept of purring...... he just does it.  Once he was laying in the sink, and just for fun I turned on the water, and the entire sink filled up around him before he got out.

Yes, he is laying on a bag of trash............

Hey John (Hudson #685), I'm out here!  I kind of stepped back and I know I've been AWOL for awhile. Embarrassed  I found trying to keep up with you guys not easy.  I don't tend to spend a whole lot of time on the computer and trying to keep up with you all was challenging.  There's so much going on in everybody's lives.  That's a good thing, but like I said trying to keep up with it all, man I don't know how some of you do it.

Kev, got ahold of me the other day and wondered what was up?  I told Kev I'd check in.  I see that there has been a lot going on.  I'll try to stay with you all, but probably not post everyday.

I try to focus on working on the railroad each day after running errands and doing the occasional chores.  Sometimes after all of that, I'm like Chuck (Blueberry Hill) and think a good nap is in order. Wink  Today, I spent some time working on trying to landscape the edge of a peninsula on the layout.  Here's a "before" shot:

and a couple "after" shots.

Still have some work to do before I'm ready to landscape things.  Need to chisel on the plaster a little bit to rough the rock face up some more, but it is coming along.

Well guys, I need to get down in the basement and chisel on that plaster before it turns rock hard.  I stay tuned in and will keep in touch.  Thanks Kev, for checking on me.  By the way, did I read that you picked up a #1615, a little 0-4-0.  Love those little switch engines.  They don't look all that mighty, but they are a lot of fun to operate.  Nice little locomotives!  Bo  Smile

good afternoon every one.

what a crappy day at work.   we had alot of customers, but it was all 2 dollars here 10 dollars there, I wish this darn weather would break.........  it really keeps people away.

I really don't feel like doing anything tonight.

I stopped and got take out wings (hope my doc isn't reading this)  And my goofy cat assisted in eating one.

And BTW, the three and half legged cat is putting on good weight, but I am just not sure of him just yet. He seems to mean well, dosnt bother the other cats (I let him out supervised, and keep him in the spare room during the day and at night due to him having the FIV)

the wifes still in Florida and I havn't been able to contact her since Saturday. She's with her parents, so I assume if something happened, some one would have been contacted by now?  Now before everyone panics, she was a tad, actually extremely mad prior to going to Florida.  It was a long quiet ride when I took her to the air port last Wensday.

More Angel for Alexis.

Never did get back on Friday. I was tuckered out. It was another 750+ at the fish fry. Saturday was another one of those days where nothing gets done but you’re busy as he**

Sunday was interesting to say the least. Went to Altoona train show early. Found a guy with a lot of Gilbert HO parts. Bought most of what he had at a very reasonable price. He said he has a lot more. Went home and picked up Grandkids after Sunday School and returned to the show. Then bought KFC for entire family and returned to my folks house to enjoy it.

Just after we finished eating Mom was acting different, stroke symptoms. A call to 911 brought ambulance. Long story short she suffered a TIA. I got back from hospital and into bed about 11:30 PM.

Monday all tests revealed She was better than expected. She returned home via DIL Tuesday evening.

6:00 AM Tuesday found me in route to Pittsburgh International for a flight to Baton Rouge LA via Atlanta GA. It was in interesting trip. Spring has sprung there. Meeting with potential customer went well. I enjoyed consuming much seafood as well as my first sampling of Alligator.  YUMMM  Dinner

Returned to Pittsburgh International about 2:30 Thursday PM & made it home to a verry relieved MRS by 6:00

Still plan'n to go to York if nothing interferes.

Best get back to the SS Fund

Prayers for those in need
